The ASUS TUF Dash 15.6" laptop is an incredible laptop that is focused on gaming but also offers plenty of power for professional use. The unit I reviewed came in an off black color, and felt very sturdy out of the box. It weighs 4.4 pounds and measures .78 inches thin. The screen is 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) with a 144Hz refresh rate. The bezel around the screen is very tough, and feels like metal. The keyboard is low profile, with almost no keypress noise. It does include a numeric pad, which is nice for professionals. The WASD keys are highlighted by using clear key tops with a white background. The keys are backlit, which is nice for use in low light rooms. The power button is just above the keyboard on the right of a small vent area, while there are volume and mute ... MoreThe ASUS TUF Dash 15.6" laptop is an incredible laptop that is focused on gaming but also offers plenty of power for professional use. The WASD keys are highlighted by using clear key tops with a white background. The keys are backlit, which is nice for use in low light rooms. The power button is just above the keyboard on the right of a small vent area, while there are volume and mute buttons above the keyboard on the left. I would say the trackpad is slightly above average in size, but not to the point of accidentally using it. The bezel around the keyboard feels like a hard plastic. There are additional vents on the back and the bottom of the unit, blowing out hot air from 84-blade airflow fans. The unit does a great job with cooling, as the keys didn't feel hot even after hours of use. The right side of the case has 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port and the Kensington lock. The front and back have no ports. The left side of the case has the power supply input, RJ45 LAN port, HDMI port, 1 dedicated USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 4 support, 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, another USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, and a 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combo jack. There are 2 speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and the in-unit microphone has AI Noise Cancellation to remove background noise from your conversation. There is a webcam included with 780p resolution. It would have been nice to have had a 1080p webcam and a privacy slider. The unit has Bluetooth compatibility and the in-unit network adaptor is 802.11ax with Wi-Fi 6 wireless connectivity. Inside the unit is a power combination of CPU and GPU with the Intel 12th Gen i7-12650H (10 cores, 16 threads) and the NVIDIA RTX 3070 with 8GB of GDDR6. The unit comes with 16GB of DDR5 4800Mhz memory which is more than enough memory for almost any need. For a hard drive, a 512GB PCIe ssd is included. That is an area for a potential upgrade, to a larger drive that is also Gen 4 instead of Gen 3. Upon startup, there is the Windows initialization and login, but I was up and running in under 15 minutes with some security downloads going in the background. There are a few pieces of bloatware that can be removed but nothing agregious. This laptop runs everything I threw at it like a dream. Newish games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War and even Minecraft (notable resource hog) played flawlessly. The laptop didn't get particularly loud or hot to the touch. A laptop with these kind of specs can also be useful for professionals using graphics or CAD software that are notoriously resource greedy. Other than the WASD keys being highlighted, these is nothing ostentacious about this unit that makes it an obvious gaming rig. It handles tons of browser tabs being open at the same time and typical business usage like multiple programs being open while Skype-calling with no effort. The Wi-Fi did run into an occasional hiccup at first, but I was downloading multiple updates at the same time, and the adapter is the newer ax protocol while my modem/router is the older ac protocol. Battery life gets used up quickly, as with every gaming laptop ever, so I would reccommend this unit be used while plugged in for any session over a couple hours long. Overall, this gaming laptop is quite fantastic. It handles gaming with ease, while also having the power and specs to handle professional tasks as well. It looks sharp, it isn't too heavy, and feels like it is made to last for years to come. I reccomend for all laptop users.

With an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB DDR5 memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, this laptop is built to handle demanding games and tasks with ease. Let's dive into the details and evaluate its various aspects.Design and Build Quality:The TUF Dash features a clean and professional design with an off-black color scheme. The laptop has a sturdy construction, with a combination of metal and plastic materials that provide a good balance of durability and portability. It weighs around 4.4 pounds (2 kg) and measures just 0.8 inches (20.4mm) thin, making it relatively lightweight and easily portable for a gaming laptop.Display:The 15.6-inch Full HD display offers a 144Hz refresh rate, providing smooth and fluid visuals, which is crucial for an immersive gaming experience. The screen has narrow bezels, resulting in a larger screen-to-body ratio and an enhanced viewing experience. The color accuracy and contrast levels are decent, although not as exceptional as some higher-end displays. Overall, it is a solid display for gaming and multimedia consumption.Performance:Under the hood, the TUF Dash is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, which is a high-performance CPU capable of handling resource-intensive tasks. The 16GB DDR5 memory ensures smooth multitasking and fast loading times, allowing you to run multiple applications simultaneously without any noticeable lag. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card is a powerhouse that delivers exceptional gaming performance, enabling you to play the latest AAA titles at high settings with excellent frame rates. The 512GB PCIe SSD provides ample storage space for your games, files, and media, although it may fill up quickly if you have a large game library.Cooling and Thermals:Gaming laptops tend to generate a significant amount of heat, but the TUF Dash features an efficient cooling system. It utilizes an advanced cooling solution with multiple heat pipes and dual fans to keep the temperature under control during intense gaming sessions. The laptop also includes ASUS' proprietary cooling software to optimize performance and maintain lower temperatures, reducing the chances of thermal throttling.Keyboard and Touchpad:The keyboard on the TUF Dash is a highlight, offering a comfortable typing experience with good key travel and responsiveness. The keys are backlit and feature customizable RGB lighting, allowing you to personalize the look to your preference. The touchpad is spacious and responsive, providing smooth cursor movement and accurate tracking.Connectivity and Ports:The laptop offers a decent selection of ports, including three USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port, an HDMI 2.0b port, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port provides fast data transfer speeds and can be used for external display connections or charging compatible devices.Battery Life:Given its powerful hardware, the TUF Dash's battery life is average at best. During gaming sessions, the battery drains quickly, as expected. Under normal usage conditions, such as web browsing and document editing, you can expect around 4-6 hours of battery life. It's recommended to have the power adapter handy for extended gaming sessions or resource-intensive tasks.Audio:The laptop features a dual-speaker system with DTS:X Ultra technology, providing immersive and well-balanced audioAll and all great product for the price
At first I was concerned by the relative dearth of USB ports on this laptop.Everything else was stupendous. Great build quality. However I added a USB C Hub to the thunderbolt port and have more than enough USB ports. If I need more I can add a second hub to the USB-C port. Great build quality. However I added a USB C Hub to the thunderbolt port and have more than enough USB ports. If I need more I can add a second hub to the USB-C port. I will be hooking this up to my 4K TV this evening to test it's capabilities there.Outstanding purchase, great price.
Great computer for Ph.D., you can even install additional SSD space if needed.I am pretty sure this can handle computational-intensive applications though since I also use it to run multiple software at once to process micro-CT data.Feels smooth and can have many tabs open at once. You can turn on and off the device quickly. The battery life extends by changing the screen refresh rate. The keyboard is smooth to use and has a nice backlight that can be toggled on and off. I appreciate the number keys on the right side. The trackpad is sensitive enough and can be adjusted as necessary. The ports are great. I am thankful for 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB-C, ethernet, and HDMI. Some might not like that most of the ports are on one side and not the back, I have not had ... MoreGreat computer for Ph.D., you can even install additional SSD space if needed.I am pretty sure this can handle computational-intensive applications though since I also use it to run multiple software at once to process micro-CT data.Feels smooth and can have many tabs open at once. You can turn on and off the device quickly. The battery life extends by changing the screen refresh rate. The keyboard is smooth to use and has a nice backlight that can be toggled on and off. I think it goes down to around $1000. Which is a steal for this device. Although the graphics card is soldered in so that may be a downside for some.Overall much better processing than my Lenovo Yoga 9 and Dell Inspiron. Although the screen is not as nice, it is a small price to pay when you can get a really nice monitor to attach to your computer.
First and foremost, I liked the setup of this laptop. Maybe it’s a new thing with windows 11 but I didn’t have to use a Microsoft account to set up the computer. Maybe its just me, but that was one of the greatest things I immediately noticed when I set it up.It does require you to be connected to the internet and put in a few basic details to get Asus’s program to check for updates, but nothing as intrusive or irritating as having to connect an account to your windows profile. Especially if this is going to be used primarily by a family member and you don’t have their info or login. As gaming laptops go this is pretty decent. Especially if this is going to be used primarily by a family member and you don’t have their info or login. As gaming laptops go this is pretty decent. The size is big enough that you don’t feel like you’re being shortchanged on screen size or your hands are too cramped together trying to fit the keyboard. It doesn’t try to cut little things out, like a webcam, in order to save money or size when fitting a gaming rig into a small space. The keyboard even has the wasd keys in white to help them stand out and find them easier when gaming. Although, if you are a serious gamer you aren’t looking at your fingers trying to find those keys anyway, so it’s a bit more of a gimmick to try and make the computer look more hardcore gamer than it probably is.The overall look of the laptop is stylish and a bit mor angular than some other ones I would call more sleek. I do like that the lights and charging info isn’t covered by the lid when closed and I can see easily the lights if needed even when I’m using a docking station so the lid is closed. The computer has run all my games just fine, and while I wouldn’t recommend pushing all the settings to them max, it could probably handle them. I did notice when gaming for a bit, that the fan does kick on a bit sooner than other laptops I’ve used. No signs of overheating, and not particularly loud, but it is something I noticed.Windows 11 is a bit different than 10, but it really hasn’t been that big of a change and hasn’t really irritated me much. I don’t know if its Windows 11 or the build of this laptop, but I have found with a few other of my computers that it sometime takes a while to find the wifi signal and get connected. I haven’t noticed that with this one and it seems to connect almost right away. The hardware for most computer’s I’ve used nowadays can handle most of my games just fine, but where I really notice a difference is in how well it handles my accessories. Almost every gaming keyboard, mouse, headset, etc. seems to have their own program running in the background and that can bog things down. I almost never see any issues with the game itself, but occasionally a mouse pointer will drag or stutter, headsets will give a bit of choppy sound, or some other issue. I haven’t had any issues with this computer and the compatibility and seamless transition from a dock to laptop back to a dock is really refreshing.Overall a great laptop that I would highly recommend (even if they are trying a bit too hard to look like a gamer).
Completely amazed by this product. Asus did a great job in putting together best of all world's. RTX 3070, i7 12th gen, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB best in business SSD, crisp 144Hz display, giant trackpad, build to last yet slim chassis, the list goes on. All for $1200. I'm an engineer and a gaming fanatic and needed a laptop to fulfill all my needs. This product not only met all those but exceeded my expectations to what I paid for. If you're looking for a budget, performance heavy laptop, pick this one. Additionally, in case you're wondering about heating issues (since couple of my friends asked me the same question), don't worry as ASUS took good care of it in this one. Cooling fans do get loud but it's inbuilt AI Noise Cancelling take care of it whenever I'm connected ... MoreCompletely amazed by this product. Cooling fans do get loud but it's inbuilt AI Noise Cancelling take care of it whenever I'm connected over chat with my friends playing COD MWII. It took me over a month of research and web browsing to pick this one and hands down is one of the best tech purchases I have ever made. I completely trust ASUS with its products now as before my purchase my brother bought the Zephyrus G14, which is another laptop that hits the sweet spot just right. Thanks Best Buy for making the purchasing experience swift and easy. Your in-store staff was really courteous and attended all my questions and concerns, efficiently.

I have used the laptop for over 10 weeks and it's been working great! The i7 core 12th gen processor is very powerful and fast, but I have not played a game on it yet. I am sure this RTX 3070 graphics card will outperform my previous gaming laptops bought from Best Buy with older and weaker RTX 3050 Ti and 1050 Ti graphics cards. The complete boot time is less than 10 seconds and you can use the empty slot to add another 1 TB NVME M2 SSD to this laptop to expand storage from original 512 GB SSD.The only downside on this laptop is Windows 11 OS as that's like flawed Windows 8 and Vista systems in the past. It had roughly $500 discount during Thanksgiving week 2022 on Best Buy only, but the price now is back to retail value of $1500. I think it's worth $1250 or so before larger SSD expansion, but it's definitely worth the price I paid for at $999 before tax on Best Buy!
