I bought this 4090 on December 7th from Microcenter. At first I was ecstatic with the sheer gaming uplift from my previous 3080 Ti, but there are a couple of issues with this card that I feel are unsatisfactory.- Coil whine: without a doubt the worse I have ever heard of any GPU and coming from my silent 3080 Ti this was disappointing. However, since I play with headphones I can't hear the sound over the fans. If you do not play with headphones, RUN AWAY FROM THIS CARD!!!- The hotspot delta between core gpu temperature and hotspot temperature ranged from 12.3 C to 14.1 C during heavy gaming load. Not great thermal contact between coldplate and die due to my suspicion of the thicker thermal pads used for the memory. But that isn't the deal breaker for me...- ... Every day it is getting worse. I am using a Lian Li Lancool II mesh case with lots of fans, so my case isn't suffering from heating issues. Whatever TIM was used by ASUS obviously is very poor for this type of card and based on similar complaints on overclocking forums online, be prepared to have to repaste the card within 30-60 days.Overall I am disappointed with how much this card cost over a FE and the mediocre TIM used by ASUS. Coil whine I can live with but the temperature situation is absolutely unacceptable. I will be returning this card and I hope MC will take care of me.

Yeah, that's a deal breaker for me.

It is insane and helps in most modern games!However, in Doom Eternal, there is very little difference in DLSS being enabled, so I keep it turned off. But I turn on raytracing at max and get over 500FPS on certain maps including Doom Hunter base!The raytracing in games like Doom Eternal and Spiderman is really cool with the true reflections, better shadows and other details. (during the winter with the heat on set to 75f).I was afraid at first of the power supply requirements, so I swapped out an 850w for a 1000w just to be safe and from my experience so far, 1000w is perfect. Absolutely no problems at all.I was also afraid of the youtubers warning about the melting power cables. But before I got this card I watched the videos from Jaystwocents and GamersNexus. Both warned about cable stress and not enough space in some PC cases to hold power cables that now come off the top edge of the card. That part is true.. my case was just barely big enough to squish the power cable against the glass side panel, but it made it and it works fine. When I upgrade someday, I will be getting a wider case to be sure there will be no cable smooshing against the glass panel edge.The melting cables from what I have learned is probably 100% user fault. Watch the GN video and you will see that you need to make sure the cable is fully connected with a snap sound on both ends.Then when playing Doom Eternal on the Gore Nest and Doom Hunter base, the temperatures climbed to 59c on GPU and 69c on hotspot. For reference, on my old RTX 3080, those hot spots during doom eternal were closer to 90c and with the fans blowing like crazy!Framerates in other games RTX On, DLSS On:Prodeus = 236 FPSShadow of Tomb Raider bench = GPU Max 833fps= AVG 409 fpsTeardown = 306fps b4 blowing up stuff= 75fps with lots of explosions, fires and using fire extinguisherSpiderman Remastered = 190fpsRDR 2 = 200fpsMy PC specs:Intel core i9 10900kTUF RTX 4090 OC Gaming32GB RAMIve been using graphics cards ever since the beginning in the late 1990s with my first being a Rendition Verite, then Voodoo 1, Voodoo 2, then jumped onto nvidia cards after that. Sometimes a new card would offer insane generational jumps in performance and features, like the GTX 295, GTX 1080 ti and the GTX 3080... But this time I have been blown away. Nothing has been this incredible. The ONLY negative is the price. Nvidia needs to bring these prices down to earth. Well and that rediculous positioning of the 4 PCIe cables into the dongle. Probably would have been safer/easier to keep it the classic 8-pin PCIe power cables going directly into the card. But oh well, it is what it is and once you get the card up and running, you wont care anymore. It is incredible.

In addition, the performance increase over the 3090 does approach 2x in apps like 3D renderers. It is hard to say a card that cost as much a pretty high performance laptop or desktop is a good value, but it is if you can utilize its power to increase your efficiency, so when it became available at MicroCenter at its retail price, I quickly bought it. Initially, I submitted a punishing review for this product a few days earlier, as I was up for a very rocky start with the RTX 4090 TUF OC. This graphics hardware was the second one I was evaluating, right after the Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC, which performed admirably, but had a few shortfalls. Thus, any prospect on the graphics hardware end, have their work cut our for them. After Installing the Asus RTX 4090 TUF OC, the system started up, and Windows crashed immediately. After restart, everything was up and running, so I proceeded with firing up the simulator, to test the mighty RTX 4090TUF. The game was running for less than five minutes, before it started stuttering, and froze. During that short amount of time, I felt a lot of heat radiating from my case (Lian Li LanCool-II), which was very alarming. Uninstalled GPU-Tweak-3, scrapped the graphics drivers, and clean installed them all. A visit to the Asus website revealed a BIOS update utility, which I downloaded and ran. The BIOS update went seamless, and the effect was immediate. Finally I was able to run the simulator, and test the power of the Asus hardware. Unfortunately, I was only able to run the game smooth, for no longer than ten minutes, after every single try. While the game was able to run, the performance of the TUF was spectacular. I've not seen anything to run the Reverb G2 with Flight Sim's graphics setting nearly maxed out, to run so fluid! But no matter what I tried, I could not get a consistent steady play, during a 45 minutes flight. Since I'm having the same problem with a Zotac RTX 4090 AMP Extreme Airo, I relieve Asus from any blame. It appears that the excessive heat from the graphics cards overheat the components on my main board, my CPU gets very hot, along with the system drive NVMe, sitting right next to the graphics' card back plate. I regret that I was not able to keep the Asus TUF, others with different needs and system configuration may find this hardware an amazing choice. Under extreme torture, all of these graphics cards dispose a tremendous amount of heat, no matter the choice. Therefore, I feel compelled to correct my earlier statement, as I evaluated now three of the mighty 4090's, where Asus performed the best (based on the circumstances). There are others, who complained about "coil whine", I did not hear any excessive noise from the cooling system, perhaps they fixed it with the firmware update. Asus, your RTX 3080 Ti ROG Strix LC earned my respect to your products, and I may come back another time. For time being, I will have to seek a more affordable AIO, to enjoy the benefits of the RTX 40 series.

It takes up four slots in my full sized case. I had already installed an ASUS support arm. The encloses support really is not sufficient.ASUS emphasizes that you need to connect the power leads correctly. They must be fully inserted in their socket. Take time to do this right. ASUS supplies the correct adapter for four power leads from your power supply. Yes, FOUR leads. You will need a 1000 watt power supply for this card at a minimum.Once installed and running, the card is very quiet. There is no coil whine either.The card idles under light load at 46C. The card overall has been phenomenal for what I needed to do. I use it for Cuda AI and gaming. Overall, it is a powerhouse that can deal almost anything with no issues to get the best version of the card. You can use Nvidia GeForce experience or you can install your own CUDA packets, which for what I do make the card very powerful. The only downside to this is I would suggest over 1000 W in order to properly power, your motherboard, and anything else that you have going on with your build. The card itself comes with an adapter for PCI-E to adapt four PCI-E connections. Before buying any 40 series or higher make sure your power supply has at least three or more PC i.e. slots if not, you're gonna have a bad time and the card won't be able to power on properly. The reason I got my card was so I can adapt several display ports and anything HDMI for anything else overall it's a great card but the cost will affect a lot of people if you can afford it definitely go for it if not wait for it to drop in cost, but the 4090 should last you several years honestly before your next build.
