I love this thing. It is so thin and light, I love the backlit keyboard, and the IPS screen is very nice. I wish I could upgrade the ram, but you cannot. It comes with a paltry 256gb nvme ssd, I may consider upgrading to a larger one down the road. But it does NOT look easy to get open without breakage. This is my new travel laptop. It can even handle moderate gaming, just don't go overboard... it gets REALLY hot and the fans spin up really loud. You can not use this in your lap for gaming, too hot. But I feel like this is the perfect balance in the $500 laptop range, and that it can play games at all is a bonus. And it's USB-C powered! Granted you want to use the one it comes with... It does have 2 more USB-C sockets. But my Logitech USB receiver (mouse/keyb) takes that slot... you might have to buy a hub or adapters if you want to use other USB devices. For $500 it's pretty awesome. It's not perfect, but I am impressed for sure in the thin and light sub $1000 range.

It is a fairly decent laptop for the price. Was initially set to buy it at Bestbuy but they refused to price match to Microcenter (their loss). Decided then to pick it up at the micro center in Brooklyn and the price ended up being a lot cheaper than the website so that was a huge plus. The associates at micro center was also much more helpful and friendly than Bestbuy. My only complaint is on the laptop itself. It has been crashing with increasing regularity and exhibiting other issues with windows pin and mouse cursor problems. I think Asus definitely did not QC this product prior to release as I read other instances of similar issues. The crashes seems to be attributed to the graphics card so been updating the drivers. Hopefully that will fix the issue.

The cpu does hit 80C when its maxed out, which isnt too bad, the 12 threads really help out this 6 core cpu. The ram isnt upgradeable, which does suck, but for me its ok, 8gb just barely gets me by when playing some of my most intensive games The GPU is suprisingly powerfull for what it is, it supports the latest Nvidia drivers, uses GDDR6 vram, and runs some of my AAA games from my steam library. The 2GB of vram is a limitation for this gpu, bust just stick to low settings for modern games, and medium to high settings for older games. The build quality of this laptop is a S tier, it passes the one hand open test, the entire of the laptop is aluminum, which acts as a big heatsink for the cpu and gpu, making the laptop in general get really hot. Would not suggest using on your lap. The speakers are suprisingly good for this laptop, they has some bass to them, they are also very loud. Backlight keyboard is nice, it is only white but i much prefer that over rad or green. Overall good quality laptop. For being this thin and light, its pretty impressive what ASUS can accomplish.
As usual Asus packs the most performance per a dollar, especially when picking this up on sale at $500. The screen is great, the performance is great; but it's packed full of tiny annoyances. Getting it to be quiet and last for 12 hours requires going into the myAsus app and setting the power mode to silent. I haven't actually checked if it lasts the full 12 hours, but it seems to last quite a while. The keyboard is a bit slippery, which gets more annoying over time. The touchpad is simply too big and in the way when typing. Nvidia Optimus doesn't work correctly with drivers from Windows update. You'll have to download a newer one from Nvidia so it remembers to power on your GPU for games or Blender. Remember to save your work because a good amount of the time it crashes and restarts instead of resuming from standby. Fan sound - Silent most of the time when in silent mode. The noise it makes isn't very annoying when in performance mode. Overall it's good, but it seems Asus did no QA on this product in order to get it out the door ASAP. Hopefully Asus publishes another BIOS update to fix the crashing on resume from standby.
I'm happy with this laptop. The graphics card is adequate for light gaming (though it needs to be plugged in for the graphics card to run at full power). The battery life is great in battery saver mode. It says 12 hours on the sticker, and I could probably get that much in airplane mode with the brightness turned down. Rebooting is quick. Native hdmi port is nice; my last Zenbook needed a micro hdmi adapter. I can also use the USB-c charger for my phone, though a phone charger doesn't give enough power to charge the laptop while it's on (it doesn't conserve power if it's plugged in and running). It also has offered to upgrade to Windows 11, though I haven't taken advantage of that yet. The USB-c ports can also run a monitor with the appropriate adapter. I ... MoreI'm happy with this laptop. I fly frequently and needed a lightweight laptop that would fit easily on the tray table (but not have a teeny tiny screen for my middle-aged eyes), have a small charging plug, a long battery life, and handle quite a bit task-wise. This has been a dream! I have pushed it a great deal. I rendered several hour-long videos using Camtasia without any issue. Albeit it was slow and got very warm during the rendering, I was incredibly impressed with the performance. I mainly use it for accessing web-based programs and data (e.g., our college's course management system and adding content to my business website). I was pleasantly surprised with the capability of this machine. Taking it out of the box, it appears to be very nice built. The metal finish is clean and elegant. The screen is ok, but wish they went with 300 nits or more. After a bit of use, you will soon realize that those tiny little holes in the casing are probably doing a really poor job at allowing air in and out. And soon thereafter, you will learn that the metal finish is actually more about cooking your thighs well done. Aside from being your new stainless looking cookware, it is sufficiently fast for productivity and browsing. The size and weight are good for portability. However, make sure you have a usb hub since there aren't enough ports on this unit. Overall, good portable heater for cold climates.
Pros: For only $600, this is the best laptop you can get. The display is bright, clear, and smooth. You can hardly see the pixels. I am a gamer so if I cannot carry my gaming laptop around then I would carry this light and compact Zenbook because it can also play AAA games (at medium to low settings, of course) such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider -- thanks to the GeForce MX450 video. The battery life is also fantastic, it's great for long flight. I was able to upgrade the SSD to a 2TB, plenty of room for movies and games. If you can play games on this, you can use it for work with no problem. Not good for video editing due to low RAM
You'll be hard pressed to find any laptop at this price point with build quality as good at this one, with an Aluminum (!) chassis, solid hinge, and a smooth and large touchpad (Much better than the Ideapad 3s and a good bit better than the Ideapad 5s for sure). It's quite hefty despite having the footprint of a 13.3 inch Macbook Air, but is solidly built to boot with very small bezels. Has a powerful 6-core Gen 5 Ryzen that cleans out Intel 11th gen i7s in multicore tasks while sipping battery on the go as well. Also has a rudimentary, but a good bit better than integrated, NVidia GPU (MX450 12W, about as good as a 970M or a super low wattage 1050) as well for 1080p60 low settings gaming. The 63wH battery also lasts for 11-12 hours with simple browsing and office ... MoreYou'll be hard pressed to find any laptop at this price point with build quality as good at this one, with an Aluminum (!) chassis, solid hinge, and a smooth and large touchpad (Much better than the Ideapad 3s and a good bit better than the Ideapad 5s for sure). The 63wH battery also lasts for 11-12 hours with simple browsing and office tasks, and a very respectable 6-7 playing 4k video, video conferencing or gaming. Screen is actually NOT IPS (VA, so gets pretty close), but looks very good and is not a terrible TN panel like other laptops at this price point. Cons are thermals under load (gets really hot with the GPU active) and a very stingy 8gb of Ram (perfectly usable if you don't use like 3-4 applications at once for the most part). The screen also isn't very bright (300 nits) but is appreciably legible in sunlight. The Keyboard (though backlit!) is only meh at best, but is far from unusable. The camera is bad (as is the Windows Hello IR cam login), so its just about average for a laptop webcam. Make sure you get a USBC dock or dongle too- This laptop has more USBC ports than the one USB-A it has on the side, with no ethernet capability. Just be glad that it still has a headphone jack! Overall at this price point, no other laptop provides the build quality and form factor of an ultrabook with the power boost of a dedicated GPU as well as the Zenbook 14.
