Audeze LCD-3 Planar Headphones With Leather Pads
In the development of the LCD-3, Audeze has made no compromises in terms of sound quality. The LCD-3 is a headphone for the highest quality demands, with unmatched bass response, finest high-frequency reproduction and, according to the manufacturer, the best mid-range ever. It makes music sound exactly like the original studio recording. All Audeze headphones are completely handmade in the Audeze workshop in California. A special alloy is used for the LOTUS diaphragm's conductive paths, delivering even more precision and less distortion. This results in a maximum left-right deviation of only +/- 0.5 dB. For the connection of the signal feed line, the headphones have mini-XLR jacks. The owner thus has the option of connecting a longer cable if necessary or can use a cable from another supplier. Also included is a rugged waterproof box for storing and transporting the LCD-3. Audeze's proprietary Fazor technology improves the control of music flow within the headphones. The result is improved phase response, extended frequency range up and down, velvety frequency response, and remarkably three-dimensional spatial reproduction. The decorative luxurious zebra wood (Zebrano) with the smooth transitions from light to dark gives the LCD-3 its own unique style. The extra soft lambskin leather ear pads and the light airy steel and leather headband make the LCD-3 comfortable to wear even during long listening sessions.

Working in tight NYC quarters, I'm rarely able to use my speakers for extending tracking/mixing sessions. These renowned cans, paired with a Phonitor, have made that a non-issue. And the folks at Headamp have again made order processing and delivery a total breeze. A+ all around!

Recently heard this at a show and I preferred it over all their other models, primarily because of the mids. You'll see "creamy" used a lot to describe them and that seems right. The staging was also different and to my liking compared to the others in my collection, some of which cost much more. Perhaps not as technically proficient as the 4z and 5 but costs a lot less. Ended up buying the LCD-3 a few days later. It's weighty, but comfortable. Very different on different amps, but was only bad on the TT2. The bass is also weighty, punchy, and lives up to that planar bass reputation. So if you like warm and lush with good detail you'll probably like this model. Also sounds better in the current version and is more comfortable too than even the version from 4 years ... MoreRecently heard this at a show and I preferred it over all their other models, primarily because of the mids. Ignore reviews complaining about scooped out mids. The newer pads which have been out a couple years fixed that and the frequency chart shows that clearly on mine. You can email Audeze support and they'll email you your specific headphone chart. I also bought the separate carbon fiber headband, which only cut 10grams off the weight of mine and fits differently so is actually less comfortable on my head.

Upon first listen...WOW. I was wowed by the mid-range that these produce...Sweet. Turned out to be a great match with my WA2 with some nice vintage tubes. I think I'll upgrade from the stock cable to see were that will take me. HeadAmp came through with a great price and super fast shipping. Would purchase from them again.
I'd say they're pretty punchy. You can definitely hear high quality textures. I would say they are up there with the HD 8xx. Though obviously not at wide of a soundstage. They could definitely be a touch wider. But as for clarity and detail. They are an absolute beast in this area. Using for mixing and mastering, as well as music production for bass heavy genres.
I purchased these from the guys at Headamp just a few weeks ago and absolutely love these headphones. As a newcomer to the audiophile hobby, I upgraded to these from a pair of Hifiman Sundaras. While the Sundara is great the lcd-x is a different animal altogether. From the build quality to the sound, they have been worth every penny. Thick, luscious bass, clean, beautiful midrange, and nice sharp treble without being harsh. I'm running these with a fiio btr-5 portable dac/amp with the balanced cable and its incredible. However, I can confirm that you can get a little more performance with a desktop amp as the guys at Headamp were kind enough to let me listen to them before purchase on one of their beautiful handmade amps. A headphone to enjoy and sink into the music. Ingenious bass range! Possesses more punch and slam than the LCD-4. In terms of resolution it's a big leap compared to the LCD-2. The transients also increase a lot and so it's also perfect for fast metal. Furthermore it is much easier to drive than the LCD-4.The look and feel as well as the workmanship is absolutely top!
I dont consider myself anything like an audiophile, but I love good sound. These headphones sound very nice, excellent really.Moon Audio has excellent service, nothing but good things to say about that.I did have an issue with my dragon cable connectors into the phones.I wanted to compare the Audeze supplied cables to tehm but i had one doozy of a time disconnecting the dragon connectors from the phones. Initially they wouldn't budge. I had to use some mechanical assistance to get the latches to let loose and once free I dabbed a very small amount of MIL Com TW25 grease to the mechanism and worked the button a few times. The connectors freed up nicely and now operates easily and smoothly. This is not a criticism just a small thing I had to do free up the ... MoreI dont consider myself anything like an audiophile, but I love good sound. I saved a bit on an open box LCD-XC from this dealer. Headphones arrived quickly and looked like new. After about 50 hours of burn in time mostlyunder the influence of a really long jazz playlist, the headphones sounded considerably better with some rough edges in the mid range cleaned up.It seems that most headphones require some burn in time, some much more than others. Despite Audeze doing some of the burning in at the factory, count on doing at least 50 hrs or so. Nice clarity and bass for my ears. They are a good buy at their regular price. This dealer got them to me quickly anddid a great packing job. If you run Roon and Tidal, you can find some really long jazz playlists that work for burn in. Really nice sound for closed backheadphones.
I have to admit, I was initially apprehensive about the idea of spending $2K on a Headphone. However, after reading the reviews and impressions from various websites, this is indeed a very good headphone. The level of details you get from the various instruments in a song/recording goes up significantly with this headphone. You definitely need a headphone amplifier as stated in the BH website and various sources. I went with the Audeze Deckard. I'm sure there better ones out there, but for the price and the fact that it is also made by Audeze, they are guaranteed to work well together. The only complaint I have (and wished I had found out earlier as others have noticed it too) is that they can get uncomfortable after wearing them for an extended period of time. But then again, that may be the case with ANY headphone, if you wear it for too long. I read somewhere that the headband in the newer LCD-4 (which costs about double of the LCD-3) significantly improves the comfort. Audeze sells that headband separately for $200 and it is compatible with the LCD-3. So if you also don't like the comfort of the LCD-3 and want to get the comfort of the LCD-4 (costing 4K), you can replace the headband. Overall, this an excellent headphone. Made me get back into listening to my music collection
