Audio Technica ATH-M30x Professional Monitor Headphones, Black
The Audio Technica ATH-M30X packs the brand's five decades of audio expertise into a very affordable pair of headphones. Though more renowned for its high-end studio microphones and cans, Audio Technica 'trickle down' the technology used in these premium bits of equipment over time, meaning that even its affordable products perform and sound incredible. Closed back for excellent isolation The ATH-M30X is a pair of closed-back headphones, built around large, 40mm drivers. These are mounted in circumaural (around the ear) ear-cups, which ensure great isolation from outside noise and reduce spillage from the headphones, should you be recording. This is equally well suited for practice, rehearsal, or even just listening to music. The large drivers are responsible for the headphones' wide frequency range, which provides warm lows, and smooth, open high frequencies. A great set of headphones can be ruined by a design that makes them uncomfortable to wear for long periods. The ATH-M30X headphones beautifully designed in this regard. Along with the padded, around the ear cups, the headband is cushioned and the whole unit is kept lightweight- perfect for long sessions of use. To connect to your chosen equipment, an ample, 10' cable is fitted, with a mini-jack (3.5mm) plug with a ¼” jack adaptor (6.3mm) included. This is great, affordable pair of headphones for all manner of uses, from a brand you can trust.

I've been a pro live engineer for 35 years. I've owned multiples of the Sony V6's ,7506's, V900s, Sennheiser HD280's, Shure SR440's and have tried countless others. Currently use ATH-M50x but am also going to buy the M70x.However, I previewed these M30x's in a store was immediately impressed by the intelligible but well balanced presentation. Bought a pair on the spot. They don't have the low end oomph of the 50x's which I still use for gigs, but I love them for getting detail out of things and they're excellent for watching movies and casual lower volume listening. One star off as they don't have a coiled cord and the left channel had just perceptibly less presence than the left which hopefully was only that particular pair. These are an excellent pair of monitoring (I even do some light mixing with them) headphones. I got an open box set that made the price point even more attractive. While pretty comfortable, I do still find ear fatigue becomes a problem after an hour or two at the desk. (But that just encourages you to stand up and take a walk, anyway.)

I use the m30x's for listening to music, playing guitar and watching youtube videos. I think the m30x's are a great headphone. They sound crystal clear and have great bass mids and highs. I also own the m40x's and have to say the m30x's are more comfortable and sound just as good as the m40x's. The m30x's seem to have a little more mids where the m40x's are a little flatter more natural sound. The only downside for me but maybe not everyone is the m30x's have a permanently attached cable where the m40x's have a detachable replaceable cable. For the price of the m30x's I would say they are well worth the price.

I actually like this better than the ATH-M50X, the M30x is better suited for my need, which is vocal recording monitor. With this, I can hear my voice clearly, the bass is not overwhelming, trebles is clear and not overly harsh. I would say the M30x is the equivalence of having a pair of JBL LSR305 for your ears, it is that wonderful. I ended up selling the ATH-M50x and got another pair of M30x when it was on sale, I don't regret my decision. Here is the problem with the M50x, it is expensive, it is bassy, mid range feels more recessed, it is heavier than the M30x, so with longer listening session the M30x is more suited. I would suggest buying the ATH-M30x for monitor use, and get a set of Shure se215 for your portable music nirvana.
I have like 3 or 4 different models of these m10x series. 30, 40, 50...most work and sound great. Unfortunately, I bought the m30x and let them sit i the box for a while...Bought in August and by very early December, upon opening the box discovering they're "deader than dung," the GC representative in Kennesaw, GA informed me that, while they appreciate my business, I can file this one away in the "tough feces" folder-45 days after purchase is game over/we out. But, the other reviews are great; lemons exist. No major deal.
I use these headphones with my desktop computer and the sound is very good. Very good with my IPad too. Construction appears solid. Wish it had a little more rotation so that they would be more comfortable to wear with one ear.I own (and compare them to) a set of ATH 50X which cost more than double the price of the ATH 30X. Got them both on sale. The ATH 30X seals out external noise nicely. I consider these a "poor man's" ATH 50X. You get what you pay for, but these represent an excellent value given the price differential.I'm large and find the fit to be a bit snug, especially after wearing them for a long period of time. I get a sensation of a bit more pressure which is not pleasant. I wear eyeglasses that seem affected by that extra pressure. I can wear my ... I feel that the ATH 30X cord is too long. Removable cords would be an inexpensive but very useful upgrade that I would have been willing to pay for. I would be surprised if it added much more to the price point. They sound better and seem better constructed than other phones in their price range.
I'd been using some TASCAM headphones which weren't really made for referencing purposes, and realized I needed a pair that would give me more separation and clarity, while not costing me my first born. These Audio-Technica phones do the trick. Nice balanced sound with decent separation. Immediately was able to tell the difference between them and my Tascams (Not a slight towards TASCAM! I use their products widely, if not almost exclusively).
Got these for my home recording studio. Good for budget studio work. They're doing what I need them to do. Good clean sound. I have them hooked up to my ZoomR16 multi track recorder. My vocals and acoustic guitar come through just fine with these headphones. Could be a little flatter though. Just a little too much low end. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 pros that were similarly priced which I also got from Guitar Center. They sound better for picking up each instruments tones and are very clean and crisp for the price. Very even tones across the board. I chose to get these Audio Technica headphones because they had a straight cord as apposed to a coiled one. Makes it much easier to play guitar with them on. These are top-notch for the price. I love that there is a 1/4 adapter for the standard aux cable. I am using these for running a mixer at events, and they work great. Very comfortable to wear and easy to pack up because they collapse and come with a bag.
Build Quality:I haven't gotten to use any of the AT headphones available at lower price points than these, so I'm not speaking from experience here, but I've heard that the cheaper models are lacking in build quality. That's why I went with these, and I have to say, I'm not disappointed. The build quality is about the best you can expect from this price range. The band seems to be really durable, and the casing of the headphones is made of an extremely lightweight, but seemingly quite rigid plastic. The reduced weight helps keep neck strain down from extended wear, and I can't imagine these cracking or even scuffing in any significant way from a light drop.Comfort:The cushions leave a little to be desired; they're not super shallow, but my ears still touch the ... They're soft enough, and they feel sturdy enough that they're not going to get weak or brittle without quite a bit of wear. I personally wouldn't be able to go more than 2-3 hours of wear without taking a break from the, but realistically we should all be taking breaks every few hours anyhow. They still feels appropriate for a product at this price range, and it's worth noting that I've seen others who found aftermarket cups to fit these headphones, so that would always be an option down the road. If you desperately need headphones that you can wear for 8+ hours or more, I think you're gonna need to look at a higher price point, or look at some replacement cups.Sound Quality:Overall, sound on these is awesome. I do notice a very subtle "airy" quality in the treble frequencies that I don't remember getting in any of my other headphones. It's hardly noticeable, but can be a little distracting. I notice it most in raw vocal recordings; I've listed this as a con, but honestly, it could be a pro to some. If you're an engineer, be it recording, mixing, or mastering, noticing those extra frequencies in a raw vocal may help you with more precise vocal processing or room treatment.
