Azul Summer Pavilion

$35.00

(78 reviews)

Azul: Summer Pavilion is a highly rated 2 to 4 player game, for ages 8 and above that takes around 45 minutes to play. It is ranked as one of the best abstract & family games. At the turn of the 16th Century, King Manuel I commissioned Portugal’s greatest artisans to construct grandiose buildings. After completing the Palaces of Evora and Sintra, the king sought to build a summer pavilion to honor the most famous members of the royal family. This construction was intended for the most talented artisans — whose skills meet the splendor that the royal family deserves. Sadly, King Manuel I died before construction ever began.

This is one of the best "sophisticated" board games on the market in my opinion. The creators struck a perfect balance between making the game feel inviting through the super tactile tiles and through the strategy which is the epitome of "easy to learn, yet hard to master." I've only played 3 games as of writing this review, but all people who I've had the pleasure of sharing the game with adored it too and were eager to play more.My only gripe with the game is that the selection which rewards you with choosing one tile from the special board, is in my opinion the hardest to achieve, yet the least rewarding. But that's me being nitpicky. The game is superb, encourages creativity and thinking ahead and ships quick too which is an extra plus!Definitely suggest ... MoreThis is one of the best "sophisticated" board games on the market in my opinion. Ordered online, arrived promptly. The game is similar enough to the original, but with added nuances to make it exciting for seasoned Azul players. The instructions are a little hard to follow, but once you get playing the strategy becomes more apparent. Many ways to win, good math and fine motor skill development.

I like Summer Pavilion, but it is probably my least favorite of the original 3 Azul games. The areas you fill (stars) have a huge affect on end game scoring. I like this version, just not quite as much as standard Azul or Stained Glass.

Best version of Azul yet
30 June 2021

At first I thought it might just be the same game with a different board and different tiles. But this is my new favorite tile laying and Azul game . They added more mechanics to the game so you can switch up your strategy. And they fixed the 1st player token to make it a little more fair for other players. I really enjoyed it will keep it at the top of my stack for a while.

Better gameplay than original Azul with less good pieces.
2 October 2020

I really enjoy the puzzle that Azul Summer Pavilion presents giving a lovely mix of slightly snarky player interaction couples with immensely satisfying points scoring when you manage to line things up well. The random element of drawing the tiles from the bag means you can't plan future turns with any great certainty and must be on your toes to adapt to the situation as it is presented to you. The game is easier to understand than original Azul too making it a brilliant game for all the family. The tiles themselves are not as magical as Azul, only three out of the six colours are printed an the shapes seem to lead to them often being misaligned. A great shame as the original Azul tiles were delightful objects to handle.

Better than the Original, but not different enough to own both
16 November 2021

I first played the original Azul and fell in love with the concepts it offers. When I tried out the sequel (Stained Glass of Sintra), I was rather disappointed so I was not eager to try Summer Pavilion. A friend of mine brought it over and we tried it out. It really felt like Azul 2.0 for me. It improves most every aspect of the original. While I wouldn't necessarily say get it if you already have the original; definitely buy this version if you dont have a copy or you know someone in your circle that doesn't have Azul already.

Excellent Azul Step Up
14 December 2021

I really enjoy the original Azul game and wanted to try this edition as I'd heard good things. The gameplay is similar to original Azul (draw tiles from the factories), but tile placement rules and scoring are a little more of a puzzle. Also, there is a definitive end of this game as there are 6 rounds to game end whereas the original is dependent on when a player completes a row. All-in-all, I like the changes and it still plays very similar with some added complexity. If you're looking for a step up from original Azul this is a great game or if you think original Azul is too simple for your liking give this one a try!

Excellent Fun For All :)
11 May 2022

This is yet another great addition to the Azul game line :) The rules are easy to understand and the game mechanics easy to play. However, winning is not that simple. :) You need to think ahead when placing your tiles. What seems a good spot now could leave you painted in a corner later. :)Overall the ENTIRE Azul series is absolutely fantastic fun for all, very happy with this find. :)

Fun Azul variation!
10 January 2023

We really enjoyed this fun variation of the original Azul game. This version is similar but adds a few new elements as well as different shaped pieces and new boards. Scoring is a bit different as well. If you like the original Azul, you'll probably like this game as well. We enjoyed the new challenge of it!

Fun family game

Six rounds, but game play doesn't take long, with the exception of the first time learning the mechanics of game play. It's easy to pick up. Tiles look nice and have a nice weight to them. Game board has nice colors, goes well with the summer theme
