I felt that this book doesn't focus on how to help your baby excel or ideas that might make things easier. For example, tummy time is something that was emphasized by my hospital parent class, but this book says not to worry about it (?) I would have preferred some instructions about what tummy time is, how to do tummy time safely and to get the best results... I haven't been impressed by this book.

I bought this book for myself twenty years ago and have bought copies for friends and family as they were welcoming new bubs into their lives. This book has been updated many times and supports the many different choices parents can make for their babies and themselves. A great reference book.

A fantastic resource for new parents. Have read a lot of baby raising books and still consult most, but this is definitely our go-to book. Robin gives balanced advice on a huge number of common problems. A to top it off its easy to read

It's noted on cover that is is all updated BUT then the first page I flick to comes up saying to reference the Whitepages (when looking for something). Excuse me? I haven't used the Whitepages since the 90s. I don't really trust the content in this now.
We bought this book before our first baby. It has been a really helpful guide to refer to along the way, especially in those early weeks. I much prefer a book than googling. The writer is very practical and writes in a non-judgemental way, just gives all the options/methods available and information on each.
I have read bits and pieces of the book, why because thats how its designed. Its great, its not a novel or a book you have to go through each chapter/section. The author says at the start in the intro that its meant to be read as you the mum needs it . Which is great, it feels like there's less pressure to try and remember everything and more about marking what sections apply to you and your bubs.
This book gives practical down to earth advice and information on everything you need to know about your new baby - just as the jacket says. I just wish I'd got it and read some BEFORE my baby actually arrived. That would have put my mind at ease alot earlier.
This book was my complete reference with my first baby & I've gone back to it for different reasons for my second baby!!i've since bought it as a gift for many friends as it helped me enormously understanding & accepting the strange new world of parenthood!
I used this book as my bible when pregnant with my babies. You can read from cover to cover, or just use as an encyclopedia for when you have a question. Trustworthy, reliable advice that will give you every answer you need for having a baby.
The book is well written, thorough in a lot of respects and clearly written by someone who was at the head of their field however, as someone living in the UK I found a lot of the information in this book is specific to Australia. I was also supprised by the tone of the book, having been lead to belive by previous reviews that it would informative but not judgmental, I found that the author was not unbiased with the facts in a way that could put a lot of pressure on mums. For example the author has clear opinions about breastfeeding that whilst statistically correct are not constructive. I was also supprised by the lack of in depth information as apposed to overview and poor quality of diagrams. Quite dissapointing really as it wasn't a cheap or easy book to procure.
