I bought this headset as part of a comparison for a replacement headset after my A50 G2s finally died. I bought these, A50 g4, and Arctis Nova Pro.These were by far the most comfortable and didn't get too hot over long periods, as well as having the best ANC and great battery life. But there was very little low end on these. Coming from the A50s it was super noticeable. I probably would have lived with it, but they then started breaking up and crackling quite a bit when only about a foot away from the receiver.Eventually this led to the Portals being returned. I stuck with the Nova Pro for a much wider EQ range when using their Sonar software, better range, and replaceable battery.

Have had these for almost a year now, and I really like them. I previously had Astro A50s, which would constantly cause my Xbox controller to disconnect mid game. That was a big issue for me, so I decided to give these a shot. Thus far, I've encountered a few controller disconnects - but they are few and far between, whereas with the Astros it was a couple of times a night. Something with the wireless in headsets causes this at my house, but this version is definitely better.Sound quality is good, but on the Xbox setting they could stand to get a tad bit louder. At this point my ears are used to it, so it's plenty loud for me - but when first transitioning from the A50s it seemed to be lacking a punch. I never use these in Bluetooth as they are primarily used as my Xbox headset. Wish it would remember this and connect to the Xbox each time I turn them on. On the same theme - each time I turn to xbox, I have to adjust the volume etc - it does not remember that either.Overall, I recommend them - especially when on sale. The full price is steep and there is likely a better value out there.

The sound quality is amazing. Everything sounds so good directionally and the definition is insane. I am able to hear things in game, that my friends cannot. However, the battery life is just ok and the range on these is pretty poor. Sometimes when Im sitting back my friends say its hard to hear me, and when i get up to get water from the kitchen (the next room) they disconnect. Also the mic quality isnt bad but my friends prefered my old headset. Also the confort level is okay but i have had more comfortable headsets. For the price it is a toss up if it is worth it, but hearing as well as you do is insane.

The earcups are too small. I have only slightly above average ears and yet they go over my ears very slightly, so if I use them for longer than 30 minutes at a time, it hurts. With how seamless they connect with your phone, how sleek they look, and with the sound quality and everything, I was genuinely ready to keep these on 24/7, because they are an amazing pair of headphones.I'm one of the few maniacs that wanted a pair of low latency headphones for video editing, along with light gaming and this was that. This headphone was a dream come true- which was to have gaming headphones that weren't covered in RGB that I can wear outside of the house and on meetings. But apparently, someone at B&O's Design team decided to model this for a childs ear... I have fairly largish ears (68mm, only 5mm larger than average for a guy) so its absolutely unacceptable for those to just... Not fit. These are over ear, they have to fit over ears. It sucks. I don't know why no review mentions this, unless I just have comically large ears. For the love of god PLEASE if this company can make larger earcups... that would be a game changer. For now, I'm gonna have to return these and wait until another company tries something like this again. I'm seriously considering Van-Goghing my ears just so I can wear these. Extremely disappointed.
I was so incredibly excited to hear that one of the best and well-known brands in the speaker and sound business, Bang & Olufsen, created wireless headphones for gaming especially after recently acquiring the new Xbox Series X. The Beoplay Portal Wireless Noise Cancelling over-the-ear headphones was a welcome addition to my gaming set up even though I already had good headphones to prior to getting the new Beoplay Portals as I have been an audiophile for over 20 years and love to see what the high-end competition is creating. The packaging is what you would expect from B&O, simple yet classy, and briefly covers the features and options you can expect from the headphones. They come with a simple set of directions, a USB-C charging cable and an auxiliary headphone cord which is needed to plug into the controller and set up the Dolby Atmos registration on the Xbox through the app. The headphones themselves are made using high grade materials with a combination of metal, breathable fabric, leather, and hard plastic. This combination creates a comfortable and durable masterpiece of sound. You are able to adjust and control settings, including sound and the ANC transparency, through the smartphone app even while connected to the Xbox. You can adjust the equalizer on the app for different genres of music, movies and games. The Beoplay Portal headphones are a Limited Series specifically designed for Microsoft Xbox and PC gamers in mind. They connect to the Xbox via a 2.4 ghz wireless instead of Bluetooth to create a more solid connection and not take away from the Bluetooth signal the Xbox controller uses. The gaming experience with these headphones is next level offering not only a Bluetooth 5.1 surround experience but also Dolby Atmos sound which can be activated through the Dolby Access application on the console. The headphones are perfect for when my wife prefers the sound off and not blasting out ears with the full stereo on during gaming or movies. They sound amazing regardless of what gaming you are into and especially for first-person shooters as you can hear everything going on around you. The microphone is built into the headphones and acts as a virtual boom arm so there is no need to attach a mic for chat or talking smack. The active noise cancelling works great although not the best I have heard from the high-end headphone market. To add to the impressiveness, I want to add how incredible they sound for music or movies on your Bluetooth smart device. Every time I put them on, I am seriously blown away how much better they sound compared to the other high-end wireless over-the-ear headphones I have used in the past. The balance of low-end bass, mid-range and high, crisp highs creates a symphony of incredible sound no matter what genre you are listening to; honestly, better than any other sounding headphones I have ever used. To ensure it was not just me being bias about the B&O brand and knowing they always raise the bar in sound, I decided to showcase them to several other friends who own other makers of high-end, expensive headphones. Needless to say, they were all taken back by the sound as well; I even had a neighbor tell me to put them away before he walked off with them.Personally, I am thrilled I have headphones that sound amazing for gaming, movies, and music. I can easily see these replacing and consolidating every set of headphones I own; or, perhaps, this is just me justifying the high price tag since they cost about the same as buying two separate sets of other maker’s headphones... feel free to use that excuse as well to negotiate with your spouse the purchase of these as, in my opinion, it’s well worth the investment in sound. You’re welcome. Now I just need to make sure I lock these down before someone does take off with them… I hope the next version adds GPS tracking because I would hate to lose these masterpieces.
The first thing I will say is I really do like this headset. It is light-weight, looks great, sounds good and seems to have a decent range. I would think that with the cost of this headset, it would have come with some sort of carrying case to keep them safe during transport. The app works well. I use this headset for gaming on my PC, I have the Microsoft wireless adapter as required and I have used it to listen to music on my phone. Sometimes switching between PC and phone is a little buggy. I've noticed when I'm gaming that if there is a situation in game where a lot of different sounds are happening, it crackles and cuts out. I'm sitting about 2 feet from the adapter, so that is a tad bit annoying. For me, the noise-cancelling is just meh. I was hoping that an over-the-ear headset that costs $500 would cancel a bit more, but I can still hear everything going on around me, maybe my expectations are just unrealistic. My one big gripe about this headset is that it doesn't seem to be long hair friendly. the touch bars to adjust volume and ANC are on the backs of the headset, and I guess they are so sensitive that hair brushing it triggers it. If I don't have my hair up, the volume and such are constantly going to the extreme highs and lows.
I was very excited to get ghis headset. After my workhorse turtle beach finally started to show its age, I decided to treat myself to these for the dolby atmos, native xbox wireless and bluetooth capability. The look and feel nice, very premium finish, however thats where the wow factor stops. First off the battery life isnt horrible but doesnt last as long ad I would expect, it seems like I am constantly charging them mid session. Second, the constant disconnects… its extremely rare for these to maintain their connection for more than 40 minutes. I often have to resort to plugging them in directly to the controller, which causes you to lose some premium fearures (atmos). Im currently using the new microsoft wireless headset and its outperfoming these in every way for a fraction of the price. Also worth mentioning I have uodated the firmware and contacted support, still the same experience. Save your money.
Great product but there’s a catch! Now having a manufacturer like B&O create headphones for everyday listening for music, movies while having the capability to be a “gaming headset” is a total win. One headset to do “almost everything” there a reason why I said almost! To me the fact they do not look like a gaming headset is something I love. Now I’m not an audiophile by any means but I also have the Sony XM4’s and they was my favorite until I purchased these.Sound: They are really good. They have a nice clean sound to them that’s not bass heavy especially in gaming headsets. While listening to music they are up there with the XM4 and possibly the Airpod Max you tune the sound to your liking with the B&O app on IOS (idk if it supports android) but out the gate ... MoreGreat product but there’s a catch! While listening to music they are up there with the XM4 and possibly the Airpod Max you tune the sound to your liking with the B&O app on IOS (idk if it supports android) but out the gate they sound excellent. Gaming with these…there was some issues as the sound was too low for my liking but it was detailed. There’s a way around this, with the purchase you will have a license to Dolby Atmos. DO NOT ADJUST ATMOS TO GAME WITH GAME PERFORMANCE it sounds low for some reason. I recommend having Atmos set to Movies and Detailed EQ it’ll have a louder, fuller sound and you still still tune to your liking on B&O app for FPS.Comfort wise: there’s really not much to say as in I love that these do not hurt my ears or head and i can wear for long term!Battery life: it’s 24 hours on Bluetooth or 12 hours playing Xbox. Now the elephant in the room: as these are supposed to be a gaming headset as well, the biggest missing feature is simultaneously having Bluetooth while playing Xbox. So if you like to have group chats on Discord while playing Xbox it’s gonna suck so hopefully B&O can push out an update for it because for 500 dollars you expect everything. Also there is no case, again you are paying 500 dollars, i expect to have a case to protect these beautiful headphones even if it’s something as ugly as the AirPod Max ones just give us something to put it in.Overall I do love the headset, it’s now my daily driver for gaming and listening to music and if you also have a PS5 you can use it on there as well provided you use the included cord with the headphones.Would I recommend them: if you have money to spend why not, if you find them on sale for 300-400 then yes i def recommend at that point. Because that one missing gamer feature and no case is glaring and prevents me from giving it a perfect score
I really wanted to like these, and for a 1/3 of the price I might've kept them, but these are absolutely not worth 500$. I think the most direct competitor to these when you consider the type of product it is at it's core, which is a premium set of ANC over the ear headphones, are the AirPods Max, and these absolutely pale in comparison to Apple's controversial yet as of late proven best in class headphones. The sound quality on these is great for "gaming headphones", but I genuinely wouldn't market these as gaming headphones. Sure, they have a few Xbox exclusive features such as party chat voice control, direct Xbox pairing, but they are mainly luxury headphones that don't really feel like they're worth what they cost. When I first picked up my AirPods Max's, I ... MoreI really wanted to like these, and for a 1/3 of the price I might've kept them, but these are absolutely not worth 500$. Sure, they have a few Xbox exclusive features such as party chat voice control, direct Xbox pairing, but they are mainly luxury headphones that don't really feel like they're worth what they cost. When I first picked up my AirPods Max's, I was blown away by the quality and heft to the headphones. It genuinely felt like I was holding 500$ luxury headphones in my hand, and moreso when I put them over my head. The mesh headband set a standard for over the ear headphones for me that no other company has been able to replicate, weight is distributed so evenly you forget that they're even on your head. And the earcups are so spacious and deep you could wear them for hours on end with no fatigue. The Portal's however gave me a different experience. As soon as I picked it up out of the box it felt like cheap plastic, the headphones didn't feel like half a thousand dollars, more like 100. Putting them on my head, I immediately wanted to take them off. The headband felt uncomfortable, slowly building up pressure on my head despite their lightweight plastic design, the earcups were not particularly deep or wide, so they rested on my earlobes rather than encapsulating the entire ear. These were not headphones I could see myself wearing for long gaming sessions at all.The first thing I did was a sound test, and they sounded pretty good. Granted, not 500$ good like the AirPods, but good enough where if the build was different I might've considered keeping them, but even then I probably wouldn't.The microphone quality was abysmal, and I don't know what B&o were thinking using beamforming tech in a gaming headset where having clear voice quality matters. Beamforming tech in other headphones makes sense considering people use them to talk through their phones via cell towers which makes sound quality a non-issue, for services like Discord or Xbox Live it's impractical. So these have decent sound, aren't comfortable in the slightest, feel cheap, have meh ANC and terrible microphone quality. So what exactly are you paying for here? It seems like B&o focused on creating a product that could do many things poorly, rather than a few things excellently. If you're looking for a 500$ premium wireless ANC headset that you can use to game, listen to music, watch movies, etc. get the AirPods Max with a wireless ModMic. Yes, they have latency compared to the Portals because they don't use a direct 2.4GHz connection, but that slight latency is much more tolerable than what the B&o make you deal with.
compared to 60 dollar razer headphones its hard to juatify the 499 for these sad boys , they look impressive , the overall volume is low at the loudest setting , the touch controls are very poor , its impossible to , pause , play , forward or back , not to mention the volume up and down never work , the headphones will pull off your head before you change the volume , they wand you to swipe and it dosent work. after about 20 min if listening it drips 20 percent of battery , when charging it charges 20 percent in 10 min , also they fit better back wards despite being clearly labeled . i would not recomend these due to the controls are terrible , and the battery life is terrible about an hour and a half till discharged. takes 50 min to fully charge , other than the ... Morecompared to 60 dollar razer headphones its hard to juatify the 499 for these sad boys , they look impressive , the overall volume is low at the loudest setting , the touch controls are very poor , its impossible to , pause , play , forward or back , not to mention the volume up and down never work , the headphones will pull off your head before you change the volume , they wand you to swipe and it dosent work. after about 20 min if listening it drips 20 percent of battery , when charging it charges 20 percent in 10 min , also they fit better back wards despite being clearly labeled . i would not recomend these due to the controls are terrible , and the battery life is terrible about an hour and a half till discharged. takes 50 min to fully charge , other than the active noise cancellation which does work very well , i woukdnt buy these. try something else btw , they sound slightly better than some 60 dollar razer headphones. id skip these, im sending mine back.
