Amazing step up for coffee grinding

Upgraded from the Encore in the same family. What a world of difference this grinder has introduced me too. The design and aesthetics are clean, retro inspired (the '7' model of the grinder and black rectangular buttons) with the easy access hopper. The unit feels solid and well made, the plastic is not greasy or flimsy, the rubber and metal components have a quality feel when you grip and move them: little fear of damaging those components. Delivery and assembly was a breeze; well packaged for safe travel and clear instructions on how to put the unit together for the first time. Grinding wise, this was a whole new experience. There is additional refinement through a set of tools and instructions from Bazatza, however I have not used these yet. The Sette has little to no loss through the grind process. You can put in your receipt of 18g and get 17.9-18g back from the grinder. Drop in maybe 0.1g extra if you need precision. The grind process is quick, albeit a little on the noise side (had expected slightly less) but as the process is quick the impact is nominal. The coffee grinds are light, fluffy with little to no clumping; any WDT you have will have a minimal job to do. The Sette includes digital scales in the form of the arms. These can be configured to the plastic jug or porta filter; you just need to change the configuration. Highly recommend this grinder for your enthusiast or mid level coffee fanatic. Before jumping to the heights (and equivalent prices) of the Niche etc. This will teach you an amazing set of skills and experience.

Huge thanks to Alternative Brewing. Ordered the grinder on the 6-7-22, received it a few days later, thanks to their speedy dispatch. After initial set-up, found that I needed to do some minor adjustments to the grind setting to get the perfect Espresso. Once that was done which only took about two minutes by the way. Have found that it produces really fluffy & consistent weighted grinds, that are a far cry from the grinds I use to get from my Breville Smart Grinder Pro.The Baratza Sette270Wi is quick to learn, It certainly lives up to my requirements and expectations.Since getting the Baratza Sette 270Wi Grinder, the Dept of War & Myself have really enjoyed our Morning Wake me Up Coffee's.

I've been using the Sette 270Wi for a couple of weeks now. Firstly, the grind quality and particle size consistency for espresso specifically is far superior to the Breville Smart Grinder Pro I was previously using. There is plenty of range to play with and the secondary stepless adjustment ring provides plenty of further control. Grind by weight is also a fabulous workflow once you get the hang of it. It's really easy to adjust one variable at a time and let the grinder take care of the rest. In my experience so far, once calibrated, the grinder is usually accurate to within 0.1-0.2g on nearly all occasions. When it isn't, it makes the adjustment for next time, and what I've found particularly useful if the grinder slightly underdoses is the short burst function ... MoreI've been using the Sette 270Wi for a couple of weeks now. When it isn't, it makes the adjustment for next time, and what I've found particularly useful if the grinder slightly underdoses is the short burst function you can use by a quick press of the start/stop button which ejects an additional ~0.1g at a time. Retention seems very low, very little static, a FAST grind for a home machine, and a very clean and intuitive workflow. The build quality is good, though not excellent - stainless steel where there needs to be, plastic everywhere else - but there is reassuring weight to the grinder. I would add that I give this 5 stars as an espresso grinder, which is what I bought it for. I installed one of the provided shims, which dials it in to being finer and this would make pour-over or immersion style grinds practically unfeasible. It is quite loud, as a lot of reviews will mention, but in my opinion not excessively so. If noise is an issue for you, perhaps look elsewhere. It's certainly not a grinder for everything or everyone, but if you're looking for a primarily espresso grinder with very intuitive workflow and consistency at an affordable price, I would totally recommend it.

Wow, what can say about this amazing coffee grinder. It’s fantastic and such a high end automatic grinder. It’s very quiet and love the incremental settings to get that perfect grind. It’s also super quick with grinds and love the built in scales by Acaia. They are so accurate for the precise grind you’re after. I also love the sleek design of the Sette 270i and it doesn’t take up much space on our coffee station bench top. I highly recommend this automatic grinder

Delivery very prompt and efficient. Set up easy. design fine. As mentioned in other review filling direct to the portafilla is not really satisfactory. after more than three weeks of doing at least 5 shots a day I have been unable get any consistent size of shot! Have now moved it further from the Coffee machine in the hope this will overcome the problem. I am convinced that I would get better more consistent results if I can get the shots measured consistently but still seems a long way off!

Best grinder for its price point

Hopper is good, holds a decent amount of beans. Grinds come out nice and fluffy, with low retention and static. The build quality, while can be sometimes questionable, Baratza is always willing to put their money where their mouth is and provide prompt and quick support if needed. My only real gripe with the machine is that the arms can only accommodate a portafilter or the big grinds bin for pourover styles. Typically, as a portafilter simply won't hold all your grinds without spilling out everywhere, I find a dosing cup a much easier method. What I've actually done is mod the grinder so a new locking point is created where the portafilter forks are in order to hold the width of my dosing cup and it just clicks into place tidily. All in all, while it's no Niche ... MoreHopper is good, holds a decent amount of beans. Keep in mind that when changing to a precision basket, this grinder doesn't go quite fine enough and you will need to shim the burrs. With spare parts at the best possible price you can find, no other grinder really compares. And with the Niche Zero now at drug money pricing, you need not look further than this.

Great Grinder, Kinda Messy, Needs Included Spacer To Get Perfect Espresso Grind
2 May 2022

I use this grinder to pair with my Rancilio Silva Pro X. Out of the box the Sette was easy to get going but as I tried to dial in the espresso grind I couldn't get the grind fine enough. After some reddit research I found that you need to add the include spacer to get it fine enough to pull a perfect shot. The mess this machine makes though is pretty annoying. The coffee come out super fluffy (which is great) so it wants to over flow the portafilter. To curb this mess I turned to the internet once again. I found that someone had deigned and 3D printed a dosing funnel that works really well with the Sette. A normal dosing funnel does not fit due to the portafilter holder arm that comes out from the machine. Great Machine - Take a few minutes to read the manual
1 April 2022

I did a lot of research before I chose the 270wi. What eventually sold me was the grind to weight (versus timed grind). I have been using the machine for two weeks now. The manual says it will take some time to calibrate to get the exact weight right. It still does not get it right every time. I am still getting a 0.5 to 1 gram variance. I am not a coffee connoisseur so I do not notice any difference in the final product (I have a mid-range consumer models espresso machine). The manual says that the machine will calibrate so we’ll see. It is much louder than my old grinder but it is super quick so the noise doesn’t last long (aprx three seconds to get 15g on a fine setting). Took me a bit to get the arms to hold my portafilter properly but that was mainly my fault.Pros: Easy to use and programme. Lots of settings. Looks cool. Easy to fill the hopper. You can press the start button as a “pulse” setting to add a small amount of ground coffee.Cons: Loud (although this is a relative to what you are used to). The plastic hopper seems fragile. I don’t want to drop it on the floor to see what would happen but I suspect it would crack fairly easily. Takes a second to start grinding which can be confusing at first (again, this was more me being impatient). The weight isn’t always spot on (yet). The grind catcher doesn’t really catch the grinds. It’s really expensive.

Happy with purchase

Super fast delivery, and they offered the best price I could find on 270Wi.Found it was not fine enough initially - installed 1 x shim which came with the pack was super easy and now it is much better. Was also considering other grinders due to reviews mentioning how loud it is but after using it for few weeks, it does not bother me anymore. Happy with build quality and the nice sleek design. Easy to clean is also a big plus. Very happy with the purchase.

Perfect grinder for pursuing the God Shot
6 February 2023

An amazing upgrade to the design of grinders in general. The upgrade is thanks to the integration of technology on the weight of the dose. No more setting the seconds of the grind and then using scales to weigh. This baby delivers accurate weight in just seconds. This is significant if, like me, you buy a bag of medium roast on week and then replace it with a different roast. That means adjusting the fineness of the grind and the weight of the dose. This machine makes tweaking an easy and effortless process.Really happy with this machine.
