A gift for my husband.

A gift for my husband. Does not take up very much counter space. Still a bit loud but it's a grinder. My husband thinks his coffee tastes better and that he gets a better grind, can't ask for more than that!He is very particular about anything coffee related.

Well my son gave me a book entitled Craft Coffee written by Jessica Easto for my birthday. A fascinating read about the complexities and challenges of producing the best cup of coffee in your own home.I was converted to taking coffee without sugar 6 years ago whilst visiting Starbucks in Seattle with my family. From that point on I have been able to taste coffee properly and can appreciate a really good cup compared to the taste number of mediocre ones. With perfect timing my hand grinder fell apart and after reading the chapter on grinding machines and the notion that you only live once I decided to go for the top of the range. We us it for our italian Bialetti espresso machine and a simple pour over coffee and plunge system. As you would expect the same beans produce different flavoured cups as the extraction process produces chemicals. It is expensive and will obviously be outside the pocket of most people but if you add up the overall cost of all the rubbish cups I've tasted worth every penny. May I finish by making a plug for the only beans we have used so far; S F BAY coffee Organic Rainforest Blend. The aroma you get from the bag is only matched by the product you get from this great machine. Interestingly though if I had not read the book I may well not have sourced this machine . I'll blame or rather thank my son for the best birthday present I've had in years!

This Baratza Virtuoso+ is the 5th grinder I've purchased from Baratza. The grinders get better and better! Baratza never seems to be satisfied with their products and is always looking for tweaks to improve quality and make them easier to use. The step up from the Virtuoso to the Virtuoso+ is brilliant. I'm very impressed with this company and will be a lifelong client.

Fine Grind
16 November 2020

Havering done quite a bit of research and reading up on reviews, I settled on the Baratza Virtuoso Plus. I'd previously owned a Krups Expert Burr Grinder which has flat rather than conical burrs but that machine went with my son's Rancilio Silva PV6 (very nice machine by the way). Day to day I normally make coffee in one of two Bialetti Hob units and, for special occasions an Alessi Neapolitan (designed by Riccardo Dalisi). I've still to experiment with different beans - I've been using Lavazza Ora initially - but so far the grind seems fine at between 8 and 10. Anyone who says this machine cannot grind fine enough must have assembled it incorrectly or they are doing something else wrong. At a setting of 8 or less, the grains are fine enough to escape into the ... MoreHavering done quite a bit of research and reading up on reviews, I settled on the Baratza Virtuoso Plus. Grind retention is a quite annoying
13 January 2022

Bought this as an upgrade from the De'Longhi KG79. This was my dream grinder for years. Although it greatly improved my morning brew, the grind retention drove me nuts as there are so many nooks and crannies which the grind could sneak into. No matter how long was the timer, you still have to "purge grind" for about 4 seconds while pumping the hopper lid (if you're using the single dose hopper like me) to push the retained grind through.Pro: In all honesty I was happy to spend extra to have better build quality than the Encore. Plus, it feels great to watch the grind shone under that light.

Grinder does everything it should
1 December 2009

This grinder was recommended to me by several people and personally recommended by Mike, owner of Clive. I picked mine up at the warehouse from him.I use mine both for French Press grind (#40 on the dial) and espresso in a pump machine (#20 for my machine). Dial settings lower than 20 made a grind that was as fine as talcum powder and therefore only useful for Turkish coffee. Many people have complained about the timer dial handle falling off, but I don't even use that feature. I love the front button and simply push it with my thumb while counting off my preferred 20 second grind time. The timer is not accurately marked for time so you will still have to count so why not just press the convenient button? The receptacle is nicely shaped and only minimally static ... MoreThis grinder was recommended to me by several people and personally recommended by Mike, owner of Clive. I love the front button and simply push it with my thumb while counting off my preferred 20 second grind time. The timer is not accurately marked for time so you will still have to count so why not just press the convenient button? The receptacle is nicely shaped and only minimally static prone. I tap my grind out and do not need to use a brush. The machine looks nice and sits well in a corner of my counter. It does make noise but much less that one of those cheaper spice type grinders. The sound is much lower pitched.I also like the cut out bottom edge of the base of the machine because my fingers can get under here and easily turn the machine over to dump unused beans back into my sealed jar for storage. It makes for easy flipping and dumping because the edge acts as a "handle".I have no complaints about this machine and have realized that coffee tasting better after fresh grinding is not just hype. The crema on my espressos is fantastic. I think my previous habit of using stored pre-ground coffee was resulting in stale coffee. So I am sold as is my wife. You will notice that I am not a "verified" reviewer, but I did not want to give out my email address to a third party. I bought my grinder directly from the Clive warehouse.Scott

This is my second Virtuoso;
8 April 2021

This is my second Virtuoso; I used the first 1-2 times a day for several years (6-7). The first stripped a plastic gear which I replaced and had trouble with static electricity making grounds float all over the counter which I cured by grinding the night before. It finally had to be replaced when the motor broke free from the plastic frame, but I kept the old one for parts. The new Virtuoso is loud, but the grinds are consistent and the static electricity issue is vastly diminished; I don’t know how they did it. I have used it for drip, French press and pour over, but haven’t tried to grind finely for espresso. I buy that as ground coffee. Wife Loves Her Virtuoso
7 June 2018

Have never drank coffee, but my wife loves two cups every morning. Gave her this Virtuoso for Mother's Day to go with her other fairly new coffee maker. Had a feeling she would love to have freshly ground beans every morning. Was I ever correct! She loves her Virtuoso. The first one shipped was defective, but Clive Coffee made it right and immediately shipped us another one without waiting to receive the first one back. Very standup customer service.

Worth the upgrade
1 February 2018

I have been using a hand grinder for years now, and have loved it and had great, consistent results with it. When I decided to invest in an electric grinder, I was deciding between the Encore and the Virtuoso. So glad I spent a bit more money for the Virtuoso. It is a solid machine, and not too obnoxiously loud. I pretty much only make coffee in a Chemex and a Kalita, and the grind is super consistent with the Virtuoso. I'd say for any sort of drip or pour over, this grinder has you covered.
