Bastion mortar is now available in plastic bags making it easier to keep out dampness.

After using 2 bags of Cement Australia Mortar...which was complete crap compared to Bastion Mortar. Bastion has great workability, fine grain structure, no balling up, and good plasticity for vertical work

We came back from holiday just as the corona virus hit us and had to go into self isolation, one of the jobs I needed to do was repair our front retaining wall which was made out of Blue stone block. The mortar mix was just right for the job, I could only do a few blocks at one time as the weight would push the mortar out and not give a safe bond. A couple of bags at a time was just the job and the remainder is still under cover in our garage ready for the next few blocks.

Works well. Ideal for smaller jobs. Whilst I understand the change to the ‘plastic’ style bags(moisture prevention…..), I preferred the thicker paper ones.
I have used the Bastion mortar for laying bricks and repairing holes in brick walls, after copper pipes were removed. Proper consistency was achieved by adding a small amount of plasticiser to the water prior to mixing with the mortar. This created a smooth mix, which was easy to work with and increased the adhesion to the bricks.
I don't know why some ppl have found it hard to use. It is just mortar, don't expect it to be as glue. It takes a few days to maximize its strength depends on the weather and I am in Victoria. Tab the block to remove air bubbles (physical contacts). Spray water after it is set to help the bounding with whatever blocks you are using (chemical reactions). If not sure, don't add too much water when mix, easier to add more water than take it out (you can't you can only add more mortar in) It is just like making the cake mix. Practice makes perfect.I built the stone wall with it and river stones, much harder to stick on than bricks due to its smooth surface and it still works.By the way, my line of work is not a builder, I do IT works, I work with computers.
Good result but make sure to buy the exact amount from the same batch if colour matters. I ordered 15 bags click and collect and when lockdown ended went to get another 7 bags at another Bunnings and the colouring of the second batch is darker and slightly coarser sand. So the take away is buy all that you need in one batch from the one store!
Would not make a good mix no matter what I did. Very sand would not recommend
This premix mortar is rubbish. Really cheap stuff with loads of coarse sand. The mix doesn't stick at all and just falls off the brick. Don't waste your money!
It's good, did the job. Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhjjjjjj
