The Dark Knight Returns. Batman is back in the sequel to one of the best superhero games ever made, Arkham Asylum. While the latest entry still carries 'Arkham' in the title, you can tell that things have gotten more epic with it getting the moniker 'Arkham City'. Since the events of the last game, Mayor Quincy Sharp (who you might remember as the warden of the Asylum) has bought up a massive chunk of real estate, walled it off and shoved all the inmates of Arkham Asylum and Blackgate prison in there to do as they will. With Hugo Strange in charge of this little slice of dystopia, however, you can take it as a given that this new chapter in Arkham's history is not going to be a happy one for Gotham. As with Arkham Asylum, the emphasis is on giving players the most authentic Batman experience possible. Combat is once again about timing and flow, rather than stringing together lots of combos, and it's a system that works well. More importantly, the stealth components are back, so taking on enemies with guns means finding the high ground and using your detective vision to plan strategies and get sneaky. The biggest addition to the game is in the scale. The playable area is five times the size of that in Arkham Asylum. While large sections of the game still take place inside Gotham's creepy gothic buildings, there's also more of an open-world feel as you navigate Arkham City. Another notable change is the inclusion of Catwoman as a playable character. Players can follow her parallel storyline as the game cuts between her and Batman. She comes complete with her own set of moves and her own missions and challenges. Things are getting worse and Gotham needs a hero. Time to take on the mantle of the bat!

It's been a while since I played this game so take this review with a grain of salt.This is the only Arkham game I played so I won't compare it to the other games of the series.Overall score: 7/10The positive points of this game:- It is fun to simply glide around and beat up the enemies- Controls are easy to learn- Visuals are nice to look at- There is a good amount of extra contentThe negative points:- There some Riddler trophies are either too simple or too boring- Might hard crash (twice in my first 30 hours)- Relatively slow travel speed- Early combat feels very repetitive

While I was originally somewhat lost in the combats to begin with, as facing armoured thugs, stun baton or knife wielding thugs without the very helpful symbol flashing up to tell me to counter, I eventually clicked, and New Game + became a very enjoyable game mode.The previous challenge mode maps are back, with a dozen combat maps and a dozen stealth maps. The stealth maps are as great as ever, awarding medals for taking enemies out in specific ways. A new challenge type consists of 3 maps linked in a mini campaign, a mix of stealth and combat maps. In addition to needing to gain the medals in each map, the game also adds some mutators that have to be utilized over the campaign. These mutators might be invincibility moving from one enemy to the next, to regeneration for Batman. Knowing which mutator to use at each stage of the campaign makes things more difficult.The only negative point is that Batman still has no auto-run feature, so when you stuff up a stealth aspect and get killed when Batman calmly strolls away from shotgun-toting thugs because you haven't held down the run button, you feel very frustrated...A quick note on the Catwoman DLC, it is a 250mb download, with the download key free in every new purchase of the game. It adds maybe 20-30 minutes of gameplay as Catwoman, who plays as a less agile explorer (no glide ability) but a faster combat character than Batman. It also adds some extra Riddler trophies, and the ability to crawl around on ceilings, but it really feels as though this should have been included on the disc. Every time you load your profile without the Catwoman content, the game asks if you would like to buy a licence key, and eavesdropping on thugs as Batman, you can hear about Catwoman's actions, and this is without the content downloaded.To sum up, if you enjoyed Batman: Arkham Asylum, then you will enjoy this game. It does the same things that made the previous game so successful, as well as building more ideas on top.

Also, the game has the "Harley Quinn's Revenge" DLC campaign, which is set some time after Arkham City and puts you in the shoes of Robin, in search of Batman, who went missing searching for Harley Quinn. I have not played this mode yet so I cannot share any experience from it. WARNING: one thing to note about the HQR campaign is that there is a glitch that was discovered in the other versions that is also present here in this version that will render the HQR campaign unplayable. I HIGHLY recommend you find a guide that allows you to 100% the HQR campaign on your first run. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!One last thing: if you have played Arkham City on the other consoles, I wouldn't recommend buying this game. The Wii U exclusive features aren't as appealing for a second buy.BUT with that said, if you have never dove into the Arkham series, Armored Edition on Wii U is great to get your feet wet without the need of playing previous installments.

As well as that, there are Campaigns you can do, three challenges one after another.Then there is my favourite 'Item Opportunist'. Catwoman is a playable character in Arkham City through DLC, and has her own storyline linear to Batman's. It is an absolute pleasure to swing through the city and race up the sides of buildings, perch on signs and lamp posts waiting for a thug to pounce on.It is best to add this DLC before starting the game as she is a crucial part to the beginning of the game. With that said, I think it is a good time to go into the other DLC content.In the Challenges and Campaigns you can play as not just Batman and Catwoman, but Robin and Nightwing too, with different costumes as well. That is something I love, it is a game you do not want to end and playing as these characters and learning their fighting style and how to use their gadgets is extremely fun :)Harley Quinn's Revenge is a fantastic add on to the end of the game, playing as Robin in a story scenario was a treat!The Voice Acting of Kevin Conroy(Batman/Bruce Wayne) and Mark Hamil(The Joker) is flawless as always, and Grey DeLisle voiced the sultry and sexy Catwoman perfectly.Also, there are many easter eggs hidden all over waiting for you to find them :)All in all, I would recommend it over any other game. There is a reason it has won 11 awards(many being types of Game Of The Year), nominated dozens more and is one of the most acclaimed games ever made. The only way you can really find out why is to play it, so what are you waiting for-

The graphics are great and all the DLC is included on the disc.This version also makes good use of the gamepad, letting you choose you items faster and saving you time having the map available.As far as I know the ps4 version was an express port, there’s some comparison videos as to why this version is better.As for the game itself, you play as batman, inside a prison city where the joker and some classic villians are plotting to infect the world. This game has a great storyline - it's almost like watching a movie and you are inside controlling Batman.The game is full of all of the familiar DC Comics characters and challenging bosses. This is one of the few games that I only had to take a cursory glance at the controller function buttons, and go to town without having to go online to "cheat" my way through certain puzzles or scenes. It is intuitive and can offer hints #an option in the setup# if you are killed.The game is able to render 3D, but I can't comment on it as I don't have the special glasses needed. I like the fact that when Batman has fights with the criminals, he never kills them - only knocks them out. Therefore, I rated it as "family friendly" with this caveat.
Within the game you have the opportunity to perform Augmented Reality Training to get skill boosts. They are seriously harder than most of the main missions in the game! You do feel a great sense of accomplishment fulfilling them and I am really impressed with this game overall. Really stepping up the difficulty from Asylum. I like the side mission options and the more open world experience alot but dang, not for newbies! If you want a serious challenge and a thrilling plot this is a great choice. The game is packed with great Batman characters, details and history. Prepare for a "deep dive" with Arkham City and it will not disappoint!
This is a very decent entry into the Batman Arkham game series. While sometimes the combos don't work or skins won't load, it has a good story and the difficult but compelling gameplay makes up for what it lacks. I would have enjoyed the Batman storyline and the Catwoman storyline being able to be played separately instead of having my game interrupted by Catwoman when I'm making progress. Throughout the single player campaign you'll experience ups, downs, twists and turns which ultimately lead to a satisfying conclusion.Like its predecessor, the graphics, audio and overall presentation here are unmatched when it comes to superhero games. Aside from having a remarkable level of polish, Arkham City also has a very grimy, gritty feel that creates an ambiance that brings the environments to life.In an unfortunate era of quick movie tie-in cash grabs, it's hard to find a decent superhero game these days, let alone one that ranks as one of the best releases of this generation. However, Arkham City GOTY Edition was up to the challenge, and passed with high marks.
DK Oldies is such a great company. I wanted to get Batman for my 360 and they just so happened to have the game. The website was easy to use and setting up my order was smooth and easy. Our game arrived about a week later and is in perfect condition for a used game. Very impressed with DK and have bought 5-6 games since! I plan to keep doing my business here.
