Having owned 2 very different post-hole borer's in the past (a 50cc 2-stroke, and a 190cc 4-stroke, neither purchased from AGR Machinery), I have found they both has their strengths and weaknesses. The 50cc unit was light-weight and very easy to handle, yet lacked power for anything other than fairly soft sand. The 190cc 4-stroke had plenty of power, yet was heavy and cumbersome (2 people required) to use. After both units failed (from heavy use), I searched for a unit that would compromise between both. Having previously purchased, and regularly using Baumer Ag products, from AGR Machinery, I knew they would have a solution for my needs. The borer has plenty of power, is easy enough to manage with one person, and comes with a great selection of accessories. Set-up was simple, and the unit was easy to start, a trait I have grown accustomed to with my other Baumer Ag equipment. You can tell these products are built to a price, but for that price I feel they are excellent value for money. Thanks again and I will return when in need of my next "toy".

Really impressed. I have heavy clay soil and was unsure about how this would work. I've so far only used the smaller auger but it's been really impressive. Still need to break up large tree roots and loosen hard ground by hand but the post hole digger is so much better than my manual auger. I've dug 12 holes so far in the time it usually takes me to dig 1. The extension poles have been really useful digging holes on a slope and have allowed me to dig holes that I would have struggled to do before. Machine starts easily and is well built for the price. Excellent after sales service from Edisons. Only improvement would be the positioning of exhaust outlet. Wish I had bought this earlier!

I have a number of the 'Baumr-Ag' branded small engine machines. As with the others i have, the panels, guards etc are plastic and kind of crap-tacular. The actual motor though is easy to start, and produces plenty of power for the displacement. Full tank of fuel, prime and a couple of pulls and away it goes. The three augers supplied are reasonably good, light weight but rigid. First hole, using the 200mm auger, 1200mm deep in clay soil, took roughly an hour with one person operating and used a full tank of fuel. The auger bit in nicely at the start, enough that one person is not really enough to keep it steady. But within 300mm, the blade had lost its cutting edge. By the time it had dug 1200 deep, the cutting face had been worn from a positive cutting edge to a ... MoreI have a number of the 'Baumr-Ag' branded small engine machines. If you have soft soil, or can replace the cutting edge with a more wear resistant material, this unit is an excellent buy at the <$350 price

If you had decent soil then this thing would be great. In my case I could go down about a foot before hitting hard clay after which I was going no-were fast. You could put some water in and come back later and go another 6 inches & repeat, but at this point the crowbar was more useful. If you hit any kind of a small rock or a bit of a tree root then you're back on the crow-bar. In the couple of places were my soil was OK then it was great. But also digging by hand in these areas is also easy. The unit itself is good. Starts without problems goes around and around with as much torque as I could hold back, so that's no problems. It's more a question of if any post hole digger not attached to an excavator would work in you soil or not. In my example I probably would ... MoreIf you had decent soil then this thing would be great. In my case I could go down about a foot before hitting hard clay after which I was going no-were fast. If I decide to do more fencing then I probably would go for the jack hammer. But I would go back to these guys to get one. The thing arrived a day before the expected delivery date.
Great hole borer, I can see Ill get a lot of use out of this. Packaging really not suitable for courier shipping. Augers are lose in the box and mine had been rubbing against the motor and also had some chips out of the 300 auger. Perhaps the plastic body surrounding the exhaust is too close to the actual metal as when in use it smells like burning plastic. It may be the paint, I dont know. Very happy with the inclusions of this kit
Great product! Have been looking at these for a while after realising the well known brands are 4-5 times the price I took the punt on this. Used thread lock on all parts when assembling and it stared first go with good compression and heaps of grunt. I highly recommend this. It would be good if you could get spare/extra auger parts in particular a rock/hard ground tip as these wont go well through that sort of ground. Postage was quick. Came in a box and easy to assemble.
Product was easy to assemble, all tools supplied for this requirement. Used the mixing bottle for the 2 stroke mixture. Unit started without a problem. The augers look strong enough for most types of soil. I have only used the mid sized one so far. The auger may "grab onto" and pull down into the hole if it catches a root (ie the auger will thread on the root). If this occurs the only way to get the auger out is to pull it straight up and hope the root breaks or try to reverse the auger (so it winds off the root). I would imagine this would happen to all manually held diggers anyway. So far this tool has dug several holes without a problem. My next job will be digging around 60 holes for my front fence using the largest supplied auger. If it performs the same as my ... MoreProduct was easy to assemble, all tools supplied for this requirement. Used the mixing bottle for the 2 stroke mixture. Unit started without a problem. I've only used this to dig two holes so far but I found it easy to use and a lot quicker and easier to use an old fashioned post hole digger. Got the poles in and concreted in less than an hour including setup and clean up. As another reviewer pointed out the bolts holding the blades to the augers were not all tight so I checked them before use and many needed to be tightened correctly. Many thanks to that reviewer. Saved losing blades or bolts. Assembly was pretty straight forward but instead of 4x6mm bolts and nuts, my package only contained 3 and 1x5mm nut and bolt. It's just lucky I have a stock of spares in the shed. It was also lucky that I noticed that one of the wires to the start stop switch was not plugged in otherwise I'd still be trying to start it. Not real happy that to get the manual you have to go online and down load it. This may not be do-able for older people. At the very least the assembly instructions should be printed. The only little problem I have with the unit so far is that the frictionless collar that reduces wear where the string from the pull start goes into the housing does not stay put in the housing. When I get another bottle of superglue I'll fix that.
I used the auger a couple of times for all 3 sizes; 100 mm, 200mm, 300 mm. all in heavy clay. Unit works well and has enough power to do the 300 mm hole size. Digging holes by hand, requires a lot of effort especially in clay. A hole of 100 mm, 600 mm deep with a hand auger cost me easy 20 minutes, while with this unit it's 2 minutes!! I would advice against buying a unit with a smaller engine if you want to use it for 300 mm. However this unit has a lot of torque and thus require a reasonable fit person to operate it safely by 1 person. btw I am a middle aged man of average build and have no problems with the unit. Summery; highly recommended if you have to do some planting or fencing.
