Be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 CPU Cooler
The Dark Rock Pro 5 features 7 high-performance copper heat pipes and a special black coating with ceramic particles. This high-end cooler keeps the CPU at peak performance even in heavily overclocked systems and demanding workstations. The 2 Silent Wings PWM fans are equipped with durable fluid dynamic bearings, smooth running 6-pin motors and airflow optimised fan blades. Thanks to a short distance between fan blades and the frame, the front fan delivers extremely high air pressure. A funnel-shaped air outlet allows ideal air distribution. The rubberized fan frame prevents the transmission of vibration to the heat sink, thus reducing the noise. With a speed switch, you can choose between 2 modes, each affecting the maximum speed and PWM curve. The "Quiet" mode offers a maximum fan speed of up to 1500 rpm and is the perfect choice for everyday applications. The "Performance Mode" lets the Silent Wings fans spin at up to 2000 rpm and unleashes the full power of the Dark Rock Pro 5. Thanks to clever features, the mounting concept is simple and elegant. The removable mesh cover with integrated central fan is inserted from above. An all black mounting kit with pre-installed mounting bridge and mounting screws perfectly matches the black design of the radiator. Dark Rock coolers have been known for their distinctive design for many years. The Dark Rock Pro 5 follows this design and is immediately recognisable as part of the Dark Rock family. Nevertheless, the Dark Rock Pro 5 sets its own accents in the successful history of high-end coolers of be quiet! Thanks to a nickel-plated cooling plate, the Dark Rock Pro 5 is compatible with liquid metal thermal compound such as the DC2 Pro. The properties of the liquid metal connection combined with the Dark Rock Pro 5 allow high-end CPUs to perform even more.

Mounting was fine but there was this extremely minor play on an I7 9700k Phantom Gaming 9, only if you tried to wiggle it. Support confirmed is normal to prevent screwing down too tight. As long as tensioners were wrist tight it's fine. Moved twice since I built this rig with it installed and slid entire PC back in the case box. Didn't even budge using Styrofoam under it for support.

I've paired this with a 9900k (not overclocked) and idle is 34C. I used the included thermal paste. Normal Adobe Lightroom editing hovers around 45-55C. Handbreak h265 movie encoding gets to 70C. CPU stress tests push it to a max of 74C. So I'm well away from the 100k limit of the processor. I purchased my cpu on 4/27/2019 from Micro Center. Maybe I got a rare 9900k that runs cool, or maybe this cooler is really good. Air cooled, quiet, and no liquid in my build make me very happy!

So I wanted an air cooler for my i9 10900K CPU. The reasons I didn't want to go liquid are due to problems I have had with past liquid AIOs. I've had motherboards destroyed by bad AIOs, and shockingly Corsairs is been one of the worst brands to deal with. So I decided a while ago to run with an air cooler for my new build. And, with my i9 10900K overclocked, and this cooler maxed out, running the most CPU demanding game I have (Star Citizen Alpha 3.9) with Chrome, Outlook, Excel, and other programs running in the background, the CPU peaked at 52c. In my opinion that is incredible for an air cooler operating on one of the newest chipsets that is overclocked.

Highly recommend as replacement for AMD Ryzen 3000 series CPUs. I was on the fence about an AIO liquid cooler. Decided with stick with air cooler. My 3900x temps dropped approximately 20c while gaming. Dark Rock Pro 4 - Average 55c, brief spikes to 62c while gaming. Idle 35c. Ryzen Stock Wraith cooler - Average 75c, brief spikes to 82c while gaming. Idle 45c.
I was a bit worried about install after reading various reviews / complaints / etc. on the web, but this thing was a BREEZE to install for AM4. Without the screwdriver it may have been a nightmare, but the included screw driver made it easy as it could be. I suppose fan clips are always a little finicky, but I had no issue despite a relatively tight mid tower case. I was a little worried about paint scratching due to reviews, but I had no issue while installing screws or fan clips...I even poked it a little in a hidden section and the finish seemed solid with no real indicator it would scratch any easier than a case or anything else. I'd happily stick one of these on a future build or recommend it to anyone else looking for a "big air" solution that isnt ... MoreI was a bit worried about install after reading various reviews / complaints / etc. on the web, but this thing was a BREEZE to install for AM4. This thing is quiet as a whisper. Easy to install. I love that they give you a long magnetic screw driver needed for installing. Thanks guys! In normal computing mode, you can't even hear the fan. When I play FarCry5, it ramps up to speed automatically and you can hear it. It's about as loud as you would expect, maybe as much as a small desk fan. After I stop playing, it returns to normal sound and speed. Fits well inside of case. I never checked the temp specs, but it runs FarCry5 in Ultra mode with my i9 and I have not had any issues.
Realistically I'm not going to be pushing the extremes in overclocking my 9600k or even nearing them and feel this cooler may be overkill as it does seem to do the job very well. If I had known about the installation struggle I would face before my purchase, I would have purchased a different cooler based on my needs. When I have to remove it, I can honestly say that it's probably getting replaced unless I've upgraded to a much larger case and motherboard due to the installation issues I had. Basically, if you want an air cooler that performs very well even for overclocking, this is a great buy if you don’t mind the size and have appropriate room for it.
I did use the AMD Wraith Prism cooler with this 5900x until this cooler came. While it did well, I couldn't run core boost and for sure couldn't run PBO. Which I keep off any way. How ever, That little wraith prism can do wonders, It did hold the CPU at 80c max gaming but talk about loud. That's where this DP4 cooler came in! Eliminated the noise MASSIVELY and cooled my full load temperatures by up to 30c. Gaming I've seen it only hit high 60's now at full Core boost. So, I'd imagine you could push this CPU or any like it with its TDP rating to 5+ and hit high 70 80's and be just fine to an extent. (I won't be but you get the idea) You won't even notice this thing is on by the way. It's solid! Worth every penny. GET IT. And its not AS tall as some make it out to be. I fit mine in a Full tower Phanteks case and still a good almost 2 inches to spare on the side panel before it hits it.
If you watch the installation video on their website, installation is not very hard. I installed on a new build outside the case with no problems. It may be a good idea to hook up the CPU power when setting the board inside the case but before screwing in position. Not much room after installation. My unit came with the front fan installed and it fits close, but okay above G.Skill Trident Z Ram in slots 2 and 4. It does not look like a problem to use slots 1 or 3 either. Their "pre positioning" is spot on. Don't bother with RGB Ram. You won't see it. If you don't want an AIO or use full water cooling and do not like Noctua's color scheme, this product seems like the way to go. Quiet and efficient.
