First off, the box had been opened and the plastic bag that seals the Neutron, was torn open and then resealed (not very neatly) with tape. Is this open box or what? No price reduction?It is good that the sockets are off to the side, keeps the cables out of the way. I did notice that some sockets were not providing a good contact and required some wiggling to correct this. I hope they will last the distance.Now the oscillators: The pitches are at least 2 - 3 octaves below what they should be. I have had to open it up and adjust the trim pots on the board and can now use the 8' and 16 ' but not the 32' setting (that's LFO territory). But I still had to adjust the trim on the crave to lower it to get them closer together. Apart from that everything else works ok at the moment.

A beastly modern classic of the 21st Century!

Let's cut to the chase, the Neutron is so good and so cheap I bought two. It's that good.Huge amounts of bass and distortion tones are available right from the off via it's pre-wired signal flow. This can easily be tamed however via the wonderful patch bay and so very soft dreamy tones are also easily achievable. Drones are a particular speciality of the Neutron.The built in BBD is very lo-fi, more so than other BBD's however in the context of this synth it is a perfect match. It may not be to everyone's taste but I would suggest checking some YouTube demo videos or demo a Neutron yourself to find out.Build quality is fantastic, very solid and feels very well put together.Overall...just buy one!

Amazing!!!

Fantastic little synth!

This is a semi-modular synth. It can be played straight out of the box - but you will need a keyboard connected via midi or usb. It can be quite complicated when you start patch - very deep and be very satisfying. Albums released in 2023 will feature the Neutron! awpMusic

Good starting point in modular synths

Neutron is versatile machine for sound design, that gives a lot for little investments.Sound and build quality are the strong points of this instrument. Complex enough to investigate its limits for months!There is a con, that make workflow a bit annoying. Neutron's default routing: signal path automatically goes thru overdrive and you must spend some amount of patch points to disable overdrive, instead of being able to patch it manually when it's needed. The same is for delay,But after all, I think, this synth is awesome piece of gear, that I would recommend to try to everyone!

It depends on what you already own

Having ms20, behringer's D and little modular, it's 3-4 stars for usability for me. But for begginers in analogue synths (or in need for extra voices), it's quite clear 5 stars.Pros:- eurorack compatibility- paraphonic- full range tuning possibility- interesting little things like synced LFO, assign out-some midi parameters to CV converter (wish there would be more than one), resonance CV in, delay time CV in...- priceCons:- if you own some analogue synths, Neutron has both redundant and less-common functions, but comparing with solo eurorack modules, they lacks more flexibility, ins/outs.- quite short envelopes (!)- some confusing default patch points routing- shape morphing is not as great as it looks, I would rather welcome individual wave outputs ... MoreHaving ms20, behringer's D and little modular, it's 3-4 stars for usability for me. Neutron!.. Behringer's new classic must have

I dont leave reviews unless I absolutely love or hate something. I bought a Neutron as a gift for a keyboardist. I play drums and have played with it as much if not more. I have to say that Behringer has made a classic with the Neutron. Yes its "just same old curtis chips"... but with an architecture that really gives that classic sound new definition(s) and much more room for various functionality than similar units compared to. Top it off with with a nice overdrive and a bucket brigade delay!.. Also, tons of cv and midi options. Nice little app for the operator. Only gripe so far really is the fine tunes for the oscs are super sensitive while the mix is in middle of them and very close as well as stiff so it is easy to hit osc out of tune when not wanting to. ... MoreI dont leave reviews unless I absolutely love or hate something. Review of Behringer Neutron Analogue Synthesizer

Some exciting features in this tidy semi-modular synth.Very nice patchbay which is organised quite logically.Nice tight and consistent feel to the rotary knobs. Tactile switches have a good definite response. Excellent use of illuminated indicators. Very nice sound following firmware update and un-muddied by BBD (see below)Definitely needed firmware update (to V2.0.2). Prior to that there was noticable transient bleed-over from the LFO and crosstalk between the VCOs. Also the USB config application would not connect.Existing panel design does not show live configuration options (LFO modes, Paraphonic modes etc can be changed with panel button combinations) which become available with V2.0.2 FW. It will make a drone with VCA bias adjusted up, but it's not clear what relative note that might be. Also, headphone or line output comes only from the delay line output. If you want signal which hasn't passed through the BBD, you'll need to take it from the patch bay, but watch your levels!I am still having a lot of fun with this and I'm confident I will be able to make it do what I want it to with some practice.

This is a fascinating synth. It's well built, well thought out and incredibly fun to play. At this price, it's clearly a no brainer.The oscillators are unique. I can't really say that they sound like any other synth I have. On the scope, the sine and triangle waves look pretty clean. I can't get the saw or square waves into a shape that I expect to save my life, but they still sound great. I love that fact that you can morph between waves or lock the selector to specific waves. You can even modulate the wave type for some interesting sounds.The filter is fun as well though it's behavior took me a bit by surprise. Very smeary. The modulation options are nearly limitless. If you can't get what you like out of this, you're not trying hard enough.The envelopes are full ADSR (Thank you! I hate 2 control envelopes.) and they're plenty snappy. Having full envelopes for the amp and the filter is fantastic. The LFO has remarkable range. As low as you could possibly want to very high in the audio range. It's digital supposedly but I couldn't care less.The delay is fun and you can do some really creative things with it. It's a bit noisy but I'd rather it was there than not. The overdrive circuit can be fun but it's not really my thing. It did cause me a little confusion at first.First, the tone control in the OD section is always active. It's easy to forget and you may be scratching your head as to why you have no bottom or top end. I tend to keep it at 12 oclock when I'm not using the od but it's also useful pumping up the bass or rolling off some piercing highs at extreme settings. Just be sure to be mindful ...

Universal synth for everyone

This is an amazing synthesizer! I've had it for two weeks now and had time to study it.It is made very well, excellent materials, tight regulators.The sound is super fat if you use one oscillator. If you use two oscillators, the sound is also great, but not super-super fat anymore. The advantage of synth is patching, you can spend hours searching for sounds, drones, effects, etc. In short, this is a universal synth for this money for both beginners and professionals.
