In the churning, smoldering world of heavy metal, its the middle frequencies that make all the difference between mush and muscle. With the Um300 Ultra Metal, you not only get control over the Midsyou can micromanage them! Like most distortion stomp boxes, the Um300 comes with Distortion and Level controls. And the High and Low controls let you dial in the amount of top-end and bottom you desire. But the similarity to other stomps ends right there. Much like our world-class mixing consoles, weve given the Um300 a Mid Freq control, allowing you to select a midrange frequency (from 200 Hz - 5 k Hz) and boost/cut it by up to 15 d B (thats a lot!). What this means in terms of tone, is thick, tube-like distortion with endless sustain, for everything from aggressive, traditional metal assaults to bone-crunching mayhem. A bright blue LED tells you when the Um300 is active, while a top-quality on/off switch maintains highest signal integrity in bypass mode. You can power the Um300 with our Psu-Sb DC power supply (not included), or pop in a 9 V battery.

This thing is unbelievably excellent. I’m down with serious chunk and couldn’t find a pedal anywhere that tickled my fancy of fatness of tones and clean as a whistle chugging. If you want metal, this will give you the sound you want, the thing has six knobs and they all do great differences in tone and distortion. My mate is a full blown metaller gtar ist and scoffed at me buying this thing. He came round and I said that I wanted to hear him thru this pedal so he did after I dialed him in to my liking amd he blew himself away with me alongside himHe now has one too!!!! Hahaha

I'm 64 and been playing (self taught) since I was 12 yo and after a long absence of juggling life finally came back to my guitar, and this was my first modern pedal purchase and it's all 100% WOW! I hoped to find something that gave me control over the sound and feel: This is it! From high gain to the distortion that would warm the heart of the most feverent death metal fan, this pedal does it all for me. From late 60's hard rock to any metal you want, this pedal gives it to you! I'd expect to pay much more for this and the quality of the material is very good, tough and solid, will last a long time if not abused but can take hard use! These modern plastic pedals will last a lot longer than the old metal ones did, trust me; you planned on replacing these things ... MoreI'm 64 and been playing (self taught) since I was 12 yo and after a long absence of juggling life finally came back to my guitar, and this was my first modern pedal purchase and it's all 100% WOW! This is a tank by comparison.Cranks up the volume and gives a powerful sound as well as allowing you to control and create the sound you want! Just take the time to experiment with the dials and your guitar and you'll see!Well made, powerful and flexible and just plain fun! Buy the power adapter and save the environment as well as money on batteries!

The Behringer ultra metal is a clone of a Boss Metal Zone MT2 as with all clones it's not exactly the same in tone as the original , the boss has more scoop and fat low end than the UM300 . But.....the Behringer is no slacker either in bottom end tone , it's tone is the same as the boss but slightly softer ,smoother and less aggressive than the Boss, which in my opinion gives it ,it's own character and is sometimes just what you are looking for , meaning it's better for some tones than the boss and not as good on others, it all depends on what makes your ears happy , I use them both side by side with one set for one tone and the other for a different tone. all in all I like the Behringer UM300 and it has a permanent place in my set up . if you're on a budget or just ... MoreThe Behringer ultra metal is a clone of a Boss Metal Zone MT2 as with all clones it's not exactly the same in tone as the original , the boss has more scoop and fat low end than the UM300 . I bought this pedal for the price and was blown away by the sound. It is modeled after the legendary MT-2 and is so close in comparison! All the gain, level and EQ controls are tight and accurate. The distortion has a little more fuzz but just as heavy. Or crunchy. Or slap your face loud. Just like the original but costs less new than the MT-2 costs used. This is not my only Behringer pedal and I feel this is a great company with great products even if they are made with plastic cases. I highly recommend but if you dont know what the MT-2 is then consider yourself warned. The UM300 is just as mean.
This is perfect for all things metal; speed riffs, droning power chords, palm muting, solos and pinch harmonics all sound amazing and clear with this pedal. This thing takes your technique, swirls them in the belly of the beast then spits the venomy results into the ears and faces of anyone brave enough to listen. Turning up the level and turning down the distortion gives enough clarity to play chords and not have it be a mud fest. But that's an added bonus. I've played thrash metal, death metal, and sludge for years and this pedal nails the tone I've been looking for at half the price of the price of similar competitors. DOD's prices aren't ridiculously high but you get so much more control of your tone, half the ambient noise, and all the blood and guts you could ... MoreThis is perfect for all things metal; speed riffs, droning power chords, palm muting, solos and pinch harmonics all sound amazing and clear with this pedal. It's very similar to Boss' MetalZone (almost a clone) but if you find a MetalZone at this price it's going to have something wrong with it and I've gotten the grit out of this one I haven't even gotten with the MetalZone. Buy it and get bloody!
I thought to try this because i got tired of paying a hundred for every pedal. And I was pleasantly surprised. This unit keeps up with my MXR, Blackstar, and TC electronic pedals. The thing that separates this from most pedals is that you have 4 shaping controls vs one tone or two tone knobs that limit what u can do. The key is to tone shape. With this you can make practically all pickups sound heavy. I have Seymour Duncan passives that sound like actives with this. Even the Gibson 57 classics on my Les Paul sound heavy. You can get a large variety of tones from crunch to the very limit of high gain. Whatever you like, you can find it. Besides the tone, the great thing is the switch. Soooo much better than the standard button style, loud CLICK hard switch. With this ... MoreI thought to try this because i got tired of paying a hundred for every pedal. Soooo much better than the standard button style, loud CLICK hard switch. With this you don't have to worry if your foot is perfectly over the pedal. It's so easy and silent, its a beautiful thing. The effect comes on seamlessly. I've been playing heavy since day one for the past 26 yrs. I know now u don't have to pay a high cost to get good sound. The only downside might be its plastic casing. Don't know how road worthy it is, or if it can take a fall. But for the price, its so worth it.
Pros:1) Massive amounts of distortion - it will scream endlessly until you mute the strings. The tone is extremely heavy, saturated and delicious!2) Mid frequency selection allows you to access a large range of sounds. This pedal acts as a distortion plus EQ. I don't think any pedal in this price range allows so much tweaking. It's almost like having multiple types of distortion in the same pedal.3) Unbelievably low price. I would buy it even if it cost twice as much.4) Solid build quality. I have been using it for over 2 years, and it's in perfect condition.Cons:1) It is noisy..but that is unavoidable, given the enormous amount of gain. I repeat - this pedal has LOTS of gain!! You need to a good isolated, filtered power supply to run this pedal with acceptable output signal to noise ratio. Wont work well with cheap SMPS based adapters.Other things to consider:-This pedal is NOT meant for rock/blues/jazz etc. As the name suggests, it is tailored for heavy metal sounds. Even if you turn the Dist. and Level knobs to nearly zero, you still get a saturated, fat tone. In fact, it sounds rather unappealing at extremely low settings.-If you drive this pedal via an overdrive or boost pedal, it sounds unbelievable..endless feedback without touching the strings, and earth shattering distortion! Perfect for droning.-This pedal does not have true bypass. That is not an advantage or disadvantage. Look it up and decide if buffered bypass suits your setup. To sum it up,Buy this pedal without thinking twice if you want a metal tone!
Is what I would say best describes this box. I've not owned a Boss or other distortion box, but this one really kicks @$$. I've found the middle frequency adjustment to be most helpful defining the sound I'm after. Definition is the best word to describe it, too. This box will muddy up your sound or make it crystal-clearly distorted, tons and tons of it. The ABS plastic case is sturdy enough to withstand all but an elephant stomping on it. I would prefer that it had a true bypass, but for the money, it's not in there. Speaking of money, if you want tons and tons of over-the-top distortion for not a lot out of pocket, you should probably give this unit a try. BTW, the LED indicator light is supposed to be blue on these, but mine was red. Whatever. It works, that's ... MoreIs what I would say best describes this box. I had been looking for a good pedal to play along with early Metallica, Iron Maiden, Rage Against the Machine and Tool. I put it in my chain an it took literally two seconds to get a 'perfect' tone that retained its clarity and tightness even when I pushed the Drive to its peak. The versatility and range of tone colors is insane and the quality of the distortion is miraculous. I also own the Behringer Heavy Metal HM300, the Swedish death metal pedal, and this one easily blows it out of the water, for the same price! You can get the same tones and beyond with the UM300, but with greater clarity and firmness. This pedal feels like it comes with a compressor compared to the HM300. I was going to get the Behringer Heavy Distortion and the other variations of metal/distortion pedals but I think Ive found the holy grail, and its gonna keep me busy and satisfied for a long time. Sounds amazing on its own, I haven't stacked it yet and already I know for sure its a keeper and a mainstay along with the TO800 and the EQ700. Good job Behringer.
The distortion operation is like MT-2. Sound and operation is similar, But it has differernt knobs for min settings. Distortion levels quickly passes overdrive/crunchy so it it not usable for that. Bass level is not usable after 2 o'clock setting. Treble and mid levels and mid frequency levels change a lot sound.Level setting is use fun if you don't want to load the amps input and cause additional distortion...Battery changing is easy.
