After losing my Benchmade Griptilian a while back I had been carrying my Buck 110 as my everyday carry knife. I like the size on the Buck 110 but it's heavy, the handle is a little slick, it doesn't have a pocket clip and is not as easy to open one handed as the griptilian. What I was looking for was a knife the size of the Buck 110 and the lightness and one handed operability of the Griptilian. The Benchmade Crooked River fit that bill. The knife is approximately the size of the Buck 110 but it is much lighter, has a pocket clip and can be easily operated one handed.Out of the box the knife was razor sharp. The action was a little stiff at first but after spending about 3 or 4 minutes opening and closing the blade the action smoothed out and it's smooth as silk ... MoreAfter losing my Benchmade Griptilian a while back I had been carrying my Buck 110 as my everyday carry knife. As the title states this knife is almost perfect. The one complaint that I have with it is that the handle could use a little more texturing. It's a little slick if you are using it while your hands are wet. Not as slick as the Buck 110 but it does not have the grippy texture of the Griptilian. Overall it's a great knife that works well and holds and edge. I highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for an everyday carry knife.

The Benchmade Crooked River full sized knife was a bit larger than expected. I love the style, but swapped out the clip for a short deep pocket one. I don’t even notice this fat daddy is in my pocket most days, which says a lot about something that is a full 9 inches when extended. It’s taken a bit to loosen it up and get the action going, but it’s rather snappy now!

This is my first Benchmade. Honestly this is my first folding knife of any level of quality. I've had this now for several weeks and use it every day.Upon first arrival it was a bit tight on the deployment and every now and again the Axis lock would get a bit stuck, but once broken in it's smooth as butter. Very easy to open and close with one hand. Still absolutely no play, and still has an excellent edge after a fair amount of abuse, so it's safe to say S30V steel holds up to its reputation. The construction of the knife is superb. I was afraid the wood would deteriorate, scratch, or at least pick up on the scents of my workplace (cook here, your clothes can get pretty fragrant,) but nope, still like new after a good while. I was afraid the wood would deteriorate, scratch, or at least pick up on the scents of my workplace (cook here, your clothes can get pretty fragrant,) but nope, still like new after a good while. The blade is nice and long as is the handle: it's Benchmade's biggest folder after all. It's also a bit heavier than most knives but for me it's not a problem. Just keep in mind that if you're looking for something light and discreet this might not be it.I love the orange trim and the overall aesthetic of the knife. The pictures are 100% accurate. I'll state again that I recieved this blade with absolutely zero play, nothing shakes around. The factory bevel is a tiny bit off but it doesn't effect the performance at all. I couldn't be more satisfied with this blade. Highly recommended.
A very well made knife. Smooth opening action with a solid lock up. If the edge of the blade even touches your skin you are going to bleed. The Crooked River is perfect for those whom has big hands and want an every day carry knife. This is a great replacement knife for my (stolen out of my checked bag from the Seattle TSA) Benchmade Skirmish. <-----another big folding knife that now cost around $500 used. I payed about $180 for it new 17 years ago. As long as you don't lose or get this knife stolen, this is a knife that can be heirloom material and will last several generations of users.
This is a great EDC, when it stays in my pocket. The blade is strong and holds an edge well. It’s a work tool so gets used multiple times per day. I received mine from the resale section with a small chip missing where the lanyard goes. This doesn’t affect the function in any way.The bad. The pocket clip is not quality spring steel. In the year I have ones this knife I’ve lost it many times. Thankfully have found it every time. The clip doesn’t retain its tension and over time becomes gapped away from the knife. When I notice that it’s clipping on my pocket a little too easy or I’ve had to retrace my path to find it, it’s time to rebend it. I haven’t reached out to Benchmade to see what they have to say about this. Older knives with the menchmade name stamped on ... MoreThis is a great EDC, when it stays in my pocket. Bought this knife to replace a stolen Barrage. Knife was a bit larger than I expected, but not as heavy as it looked. The natural material scales do a good job of making it weigh less and they look nice. I like the handle shape better than my previous Barrage and it fits better in my hand. I've always been partial to Bowie-esk folders aesthetically and this one is no exception. The knife flips out easily and the locking mechanism is the typical Benchmade quality. The only dim spot was that I wasn't impressed with the factory edge - which was easily rectified. Blade is S30V, so I'll be curious to see how its edge retention performs over time as compared to the CR154 blade on the Barrage. With the Vanadium's reputation for toughness, I'm hopeful that this blade ... MoreBought this knife to replace a stolen Barrage. Knife was a bit larger than I expected, but not as heavy as it looked. I have never really been an every day knife carrier. I wanted to get a functional yet classical knife for my nephew's high school graduation, but it also had to have a cool factor to it to appeal to an 18 year old. All of my research kept leading me back to this beautiful blade. I was so impressed with it I had to buy myself one too. I have larger hands so the large handle felt perfect in my hand, and the blade is beyond cool. I looked all over the internet to compare prices for the Crooked River. I finally went into the Sportsmans Warehouse in my neighborhood to try a feel for the knife and was surprised to see it was over $20 cheaper than anything I can find online. The woman working the knife counter was a tremendous help too. Who says brick and mortar stores are ... MoreI have never really been an every day knife carrier. As ever, Benchmade hits it right on the mark with the Crooked River. The folding action is solid. The knife is solid without feeling overly bulky (fits perfectly even without the deep pocket clip). It’s large, but I’m glad I went with this and not the mini-version. And it is *sharp* right out of the box. REI shipped it in perfectly acceptable packaging, and it was right on time.
Strangely not a great knife, not even a very good knife, which falls well short of the mark the benchmade made his set. The pocket clip makes holding the knife uncomfortable to say the least. The locking mechanism on the one I received is next to impossible to release once the knife is deployed. I realize this is most likely a defect in this particular knife, but for the price point and the quality the benchmade normally put forward it is truly disappointing. I am a huge benchmade fan, having had over 50 of them. Always found them to be top quality knives. The grip even without the belt clip is not fantastic, it’s really not even that comfortable. Am returning the knife and will be switching to a different model. Would not recommend this knife to others, even ... MoreStrangely not a great knife, not even a very good knife, which falls well short of the mark the benchmade made his set.
