Miura created this masterpiece back in the late eighties, I've finally had the pleasure of having my hands on a physical copy. The deluxe edition looks incredible, has that lovely new book smell and even comes with its own little bookmark. The leather is thick and feel great on the hand, really adds to the feeling of an adult themed dark fantasy book.I honestly can't say much more than what has been said for Berserk which is considered one of the best mangas out there.10/10

The hardcover edition is well worth the investment, with its high-quality binding and beautiful artwork. And with more volumes to come, I can't wait to see where the story goes next, both on the page and on the screen.

There's nothing negative I could possibly say about berserk itself and the story. Absolute master class in dark fantasy, from the beautiful, lively artwork, to the intricately woven story of incredibly fleshed out characters, and the thin line between love and hate. The only thing that negates a 5 star rating is something that comes down to the physical copy that I personally received. The ribbon in the spine of my book that is supposed to bend and create an eye for helping to spread the pages properly when reading, is unfortunate stuck to the outer spine of my copy. This makes it so when I'm reading the whole spine of my book bends instead of just the inside ribbon. Overall this is still a great book to pick up for the story, and the look of the spine when sitting on your shelf. The problems with my copy only come down to the one I own, and is fairly rare to have this happen.R.I.P Kentaro Miura (The creator of Berserk)

Berserk - Greatest manga of all time
14 October 2022

In honour of the late Kentaro Miura, Berserk has finally gotten its long awaited Deluxe edition. With greater contrast, sound effect translation, and extended art, these leather hard covers are a great way to experience the best seinen manga of all time. If you like Dark fantasy stories with great tragedy, please do yourself a favour and read them, even if you saw the 1997 anime.

Best way to collect one of the greatest Manga ever
22 November 2021

These Deluxe Editions of Berserk are huge, "leather" bound versions of what is easily one of the greatest dark fantasy stories told in Manga.Perfect for first time readers or even collectors. These are the best way to own Kentaro Miura's masterpiece.Even if you haven't heard of Berserk you have no doubt felt its influence in other works throughout the last few decades. Final Fantasy and Dark Souls just to name a couple.

Even Better than the 1997 Anime!
16 November 2021

I'm not a huge manga reader or anime watcher, my tastes are pretty niche in that I prefer shorter action\horror series rather than super long-running series such as One Piece. This is only my third manga after Fist of the North Star and Hellsing, but I'm so glad I've begun this epic journey, if you're a fan of dark fantasy or looking for a gateway into other manga, Berserk is an amazing, violent, heartbreaking and deeply interesting series right from the get-go.If you can handle the dark content (and believe me it gets VERY dark, especially in later volumes), i 100% recommend this to anyone! The character writing and world-building is amazingly done with the way that story events unfold, it gets you completely immersed. These huge leather-bound volumes are ... MoreI'm not a huge manga reader or anime watcher, my tastes are pretty niche in that I prefer shorter action\horror series rather than super long-running series such as One Piece. Not very good.
29 May 2023

Based on the relatively impressive foiled hard cover leather exterior and a little background research including viewing some of the thousands of image frames (probably some of the best drawings) composing the series, I thought it would exceed many other manga I have read. I stopped after several pages. Not very good. I think it was slightly damaged upon delivery also. It seems like it might get better at deluxe vol. 5, 8 or 9, where it has appeared that some main area of the story, hopefully with better pictures and writing has seemed to have been made by the actual credited author/artist, but I am not sure and am so unimpressed that I may skip it.

The Entry Point To An Incredible Series
24 May 2022

As you are probably already aware, Berserk is an incredibly praised and influential series and this is the entry point to that series. I picked this up, not knowing much about the story or characters shortly after the author, Kentaro Miura had unfortunately passed. To be completely blunt, this first volume is incredibly dark and gruesome, I'm not someone who is usually turned off by too much violence or atrocities in media but I found this difficult to read at points. Additionally, I found it extremely difficult to root for or support the main character Guts, as he seemed to be completely irredeemable. But the illustrations depicted in this volume and throughout the series are nothing short of amazing, they're so highly detailed that I struggled to believe that a human was actually capable of making such vivid images with nothing but white and black textures. After finishing this volume, I honestly didn't know whether or not I should continue the series, due mostly to my previously aforementioned disgust in the main character, but I continued with the series and was captured completely in the 2nd and 3rd deluxe volumes. Currently, I am up to the beginning of the 8th volume and the series is still blowing me away with incredibly dark characters and somehow even greater illustrations.I've read a lot of manga & novels, and I've never read a story like Berserk. I highly recommend you give it a chance, even if you've never read a manga before. It's a series that will stick with you. Every day, I finish work eagerly anticipating reading even more!

This manga is great even in it's first few volumes and I can tell I am really going to enjoy the rest. Guts is a very interesting main character and his personality makes you wonder whether to like him or not. It is also worth mentioning that Booktopia did great in delivery, the book arrived in perfect condition and Booktopia kept me updated on every step of the delivery process.

Worth the price.
23 February 2022

I adore the quality and presentation of these Dark Horse deluxe editions, but they are quite expensive, especially given the fact that they are usually only three volumes (the first Hellsing deluxe was four, however), so I was very happy to get this well bellow RRP (about $60 at the time). That still may be a tough sell for some, given how cheap the individual volumes are, but I think it's well worth it. The pages are printed on some of the highest quality paper I've seen in any book, the covers are bound in leather, and the oversized pages really let you appreciate Kentaro Miura's artwork in its best possible form, and the same is true for Dark Horse's other deluxe manga too.
