I received Better Body Foods Refined Avocado Oil 33.8oz as part of the Spark Reviewer program, but the comments are my own. Avacado oil can be used like olive oil and has similar health benefits since it is mostly a monounsaturated fat. It is pale green in color and has a neutral taste, unlike olive or coconut oil. It also has a high smoke point, so can be used for cooking. I have sauteed vegetables in it the same as olive oil. It makes a nice dressing when paired with coconut vinegar. And it can be used on your face, like olive or coconut oil. I think it is a great product all around, except price, which is much more expensive than most olive oils, though it is comparable to high end, organic, cold-pressed, olive and coconut oils. For me, it is too expensive to be my everyday cooking oil.

I am so happy to have an alternative to olive oil. It is a wonderful oil for salads, cooking, and flavoring food. It can be used for low and high frying temperatures. Up to 500 Fahrenheit. That is much higher than the 400 Fahrenheit I usually use in my frying machine. Best of all it has a neutral flavor unlike other cooking oils. I expected a slight avocado flavor but it does not have any taste. It is naturally refined which makes it ideal for cooking and for salads. I have enjoy it with vegetables, lettuce based salads and pasta salads. Only one tablespoon goes a long way. I use a teaspoon to fry an egg and since it has a neutral flavor it does not affect the flavor. It does not contain any sugar, transfat or sodium. The bottle is dark to conserve the contents but ... It has indented sides making it easy to hold, grooves on the sides for easy gripping and a convenient spout for easy pouring. It was easy to open however, I would recommend an adjustment to the lid. It opens and closes easily however, when tipped over the lid pops open and the oil spills. It has tipped over twice while I was cooking and I have lost precious oil because the lid does not make a tight seal. This a great oil and I use it, recommend it and will definitely continue to purchase at WalMart.

Excellent product, packaging is lightweight (plastic not glass as it may look from the photo) and for its size it is good value for money. Taste is pleasant, very good for both cooking and making mayonnaise. A good solution for those looking into lighter tastinf alternatives to extra virgin olive oil.

I never thought about there being a thing such as avocado oil. It's a pretty amazing light density oil very similar to olive oil. Avocado oil is different in that it has an incredibly high smoke point. It's high smoke point makes it ideal for searing meats or using it for searing veggies like fajitas or stir-fry without calling the fire dept down. With a mild flavor you won't have to worry about interfering with your flavor profile of the food you are cooking. Avocados are a great source of healthy fat that is much needed for Keto and Clean eating. Thus, avocado oil is a great choice for cooking with or in to hit those daily macros!BetterBody Foods presents you a superb option for enhancing your cooking and eating experience with their avocado oil.
Just about the time we were adding “get new EVOO” to the shopping list I came across a description of Avacado Oil from Better Body Foods and Nutrition. Avacado oil? Never knew oil could be derived from avocado. But we like avocados, and they are a healthy food, so why not give it a try?It turns out avocado oil is high in Vitamin E and monounsaturated fats, similar on contents to olive oil, so all good!It has a rich gold hue and actually very little flavor in the BetterBody brand. One of the very attractive features is its unusually high smoke point. Something close to 480 degrees F is outstanding for frying foods, sautéing vegetables and browning meats. It performs well and is actually a bit less expensive than EVOO in the 16.9 ounce size!
I don't know why, but I kind of expected this oil to taste like avocados. Surprisingly, it doesn't. It tastes neutral, perhaps with a just touch of that fatty, sweet nuttiness. It doesn't smell much like avocados either, except perhaps the skin of an avocado. I went into this knowing full well that canola oil doesn't taste or smell like rapeseed and vegetable oil isn't going to taste like unsalted vegetables, and grape seeds don't taste like grapes. I suppose it was the illusion that avocado oil is made from the compressed flesh of the avocado, the same way they compress coconuts and walnuts, pistachios, and pecans, for their oils. If you've ever eaten virgin coconut, walnut, pistachio, or pecan oil, you'll know what I'm talking about. Peanut oil is also a good ... If you've ever eaten virgin coconut, walnut, pistachio, or pecan oil, you'll know what I'm talking about. Peanut oil is also a good example. Peanut oil tastes like peanuts. I don't know if anyone else can taste it but I can certainly taste peanuts in all the foods I make with peanut oil. Barring the slightly disappointing taste that shouldn't be considering disappointing at all really, this avocado oil can be used for a multitude of things, even if it is refined, which it probably the reason why the avocado oil doesn't taste like avocado now that I think about it.To test this oil I put it to many different applications:1. I tried this oil in my food. I used it to coat my cast iron skillet, heated up to the highest my stove can go, gradually, and around the 6 to 7 out of the 8 heat settings with 1 being the lowest and 8 being the hottest, is when the oil started to smoke. I then proceeded drop my temperature down to around 4 to 5, and successfully cooked scrambled eggs without sticking. Now, it should be mentioned that I have a well seasoned cast iron skillet, but I still like to use a little oil for the sticky stuff (like eggs) so that I don't have to worry about getting out my salt and dirtying up a rag. I usually use butter, it has a way of coating a pan that no oil can replicate 100% This oil came very close. Upon eating the scrambled eggs I realized there was no burnt oil flavor, in fact you could hardly taste the oil at all. It had integrated into the egg very nicely, but I did miss the butter flavor, so I probably won't be using it for eggs anytime soon. I also used it to caramelize onions, and saute a french mirepoix for chicken noodle soup, both with equally satisfying results. I haven't used it for baking yet. I'm currently trying it out in a whole wheat bread dough recipe, and the results are already seeming favorable from the smoothness it garners the dough, in contrast with the whole grain flour of course.2. I tried this oil on my skin. I have to admit, this was the first thing I used this oil for, after I opened it and sipped on it of course. I love using natural things on my skin, and my skin has never been healthier for it. This oil absorbs easy into my skin but I have tougher, thicker skin than most. I'd imagine that people with thinner, more delicate skin would want to use this sparingly because this oil is leaning on the side of being moderately viscous. Not as thick as liquid petroleum but definitely not as thin as vegetable oil. It's just a tad thicker than olive oil, and for that reason, I used it in my third experiment.3. I tried this oil in my hair. This is the formula I used:1/4 cup of this avocado oil (I usually use EVOO) + 1 small overripe banana + 2 whole eggsI blended this fairly basic formulation up in my blender until it was smooth, applied to it to my hair, and then let it set for about an hour or so. I rinsed it out, then washed and conditioned my hair with sulfate free shampoo and conditioner as usual, just the top of my head with a sparing amount of shampoo worked down into the shaft of the hair and nothing at the ends. Took a long time, I have hair down to my bum, but once it was dry, I was happy with the results. It wasn't greasy like if I would have used coconut oil, so it seems to have absorbed easily into my hair. I applied some on the ends of my hair as well. It's been 5 days so far since I washed my hair, and I'm just now starting to see a little oily roots. This oil is great. If you like extra virgin olive oil, but can't handle that heat restriction, consider this oil.
I am concerned about the food that my family eats and how healthy it is for them, but I am definitely not a health food specialist or a nutritionist. I will often pick foods that taste better over foods that are "super" healthy foods. I have tried avocado mayo before, and was not particularly impressed. Having a fairly open mind, though, I decided to try avocado oil. I was not too optimistic about how well it would work going in. However, I have to admit that I am surprised and delighted by this oil. It is great! It cooks to a really high temperature without scorching. It has no taste, so if you cook something like scrambled eggs, your children are not even going to know you did something different. It also works with high-heat dishes like stir-fry. I have used it in every situation that I would normally use canola or olive oil, and no one in my family has ever noticed a difference. In fact, the only place I have found that I do not especially like it is in boiling dishes like pasta, but only because the oil would coat the stirring utensil instead of staying in the hot water. Other than that, it still worked well even in these cases.
After using olive oil and corn oil (amongst others) for our entire lives, we were excited to give this oil a try. Especially for high temperature Wok cooking. We have used it several times now. For all cooking, it really is an excellent choice. It supposedly has some health benefits such as helping lowering bad cholesterol. I can also say it is superior for Wok cooking. It did not smoke. I use the base of an old turkey fryer as a large, high temperature cooking device (outside use only) and a thin steel Wok and this oil far exceeds anything else. It has an extremely light flavor that is completely neutral. It works great for making homemade vinaigrette dressing or just as a plain oil and vinegar dressing. My wife says it is great for the skin, citing elbows and feet. I certainly wont be using it for anything other than food but she’s already looking into other uses.
The first thing I noticed about this Avocado oil was that the bottle was plastic which is great in case I dropped it which has happened to me in the past with a glass bottle, (what a mess to clean up) so I was happy about that. I then opened the bottle and tasted the oil. I did not really taste avocado, but the aroma is good, and the taste is not heavy at all. I might add that a good olive oil is the same way, no olive taste. The bottle is 16.9 oz. and you get approximately 33 servings. Each serving is 120 calories. It has no cholesterol, no sodium, no carbs, zero grams of trans fats, 1.5 grams saturated fats, 2 grams of polyunsaturated fats, and 10 grams of monounsaturated fats. Both dishes came out great. There are also some other oils made by this company that I cannot wait to try as this one is of high quality which tells me they care about their products. I would highly recommend this avocado oil.
We were pleased to be able to pick up such a healthy product at Walmart.com. If your not familiar with Avocado oil let me give you a few of the benefits. Not only does it have a high burn temperature which means you can cook or fry at a higher temperature but it also has these health benefits. It is rich in Oleic Acid which is a very health fat, it helps to reduce cholesterol which can help with heart health, it is high in Lutein which is a antioxidant that has benefits for your eyes and can help with the absorption of many nutrients as well as being high in vitamin E. This is just a few of the things that make this oil such a great addition to your pantry. It has a rich "creamy" type texture with just a hint of avocado flavor to it. The bottle itself seems very flimsy so I would suggest you transfer it into a clean glass bottle if you have one.Enjoy all the health benefits that this wonderful oil has to offer!
