The moment we recieved the Bzzkit with the BIC Velocity Mechanical Pencils both of my teens were all over them. The package was ripped opened the moment I got a picture of them. They have since been used non stop each day since we have had them, and school hasn't even started yet. My 14 year old daughter has been using them to make flash cards and taking notes for her Advanced English summer assignment. While my 13 year old son has been using them to work on improving his handwriting skills. He's been working hard all of his life in Occupational Therapy. That's how often they've been used so far. I definitely see these being used far into the future in our home. I believe they are an amazing learning tool for helping kids of all ages be more excited to write, and aide in creating that passion for writing as well! They must each have a pencil with them at all times to mark their parts at every rehearsal, and it must be a pencil that stays sharp to make precise markings on the lines of the staff in their music theory books during lessons. We have tried Bic pencils before, but never the Velocity brand. I received two packages of Bic Velocity mechanical pencils in exchange for my honest review as a BzzAgent. Each package contained 5 colorful mechanical pencils and a tube of 5 replaceable erasers and replacement lead. These are #2 pencils so they can be used for things like standardized testing which requires you to fill in the scantron bubble. I'm not saying these pencils will make your kiddos positively giddy with glee while they are doing homework, but my son has a great deal fine motor difficulties including dysgraphia, poor handwriting because of difficulties with letter formation, and he quickly fatigues while writing. He has been in therapy for more than 10 years working to improve his fine motor control, so as you can probably imagine, he doesn't love school work....especially handwriting and cursive because it is a frustrating experience for him. I knew he would be the perfect person to try out these pencils. Using mechanical pencils is a very frustrating experience for him because the lead is continually breaking due to the amount of pressure he applies because of his low tactile awareness, but not with the Bic Velocity. He happily did his practice page and was excited to pick out his favorite color pencil from the package. The lead is refillable which is nice. It is also smooth, thicker and darker than the mechanical pencils we have used in the past and it does allow even kids with fine motor issues to write smoothly. I will be buying more in the future! Pros: -Colorful and fun -The barrel of the pencil is smooth and thicker plastic than most mechanical pencils -Thick, dark lead -Smooth, precise and effortless writing -Lead clicks into position easily -Refillable (less waste in our landfills) -Great for musicians marking sheet music in rehearsals -Can use during testing that requires a #2 lead -Clear plastic cap covers the erasers I keep it clean and intact -Writes and feels more like a pen, which is a good thing, in my opinion Cons: -The eraser is very thin and small -The rubber pencil grip isn't very thick in diameter and feels a little strange in my hand because of the indents on the grip-- I prefer more to hold, so that I have more control and less cramping while writing. HOWEVER, I was able to remove and replace the grip to a type that fit my hand better, so that's a good thing that you can customize the feel of your pencil grip--especially for kids who need a speciailzed grip-- because it isn't difficult to remove. -The replacement lead is loaded in the top by removing the eraser, so if you lose the eraser, your lead could fall out. #BicVelocity #Igotitfree

It also includes extra erasers & lead for each pencil which makes this pack a little different from other mechanical pencils! The pencil itself has a little thicker barrel which makes it very comfortable to hold, writes smoothly, effortlessly & is easy to write with. My 2 daughters ages 3 and 10 were excited to pick their favorite colors (pink & purple). I was able to watch them each use their pencil and this is what I was able to observe with them.... It also includes extra erasers & lead for each pencil which makes this pack a little different from other mechanical pencils! The pencil itself has a little thicker barrel which makes it very comfortable to hold, writes smoothly, effortlessly & is easy to write with. My 2 daughters ages 3 and 10 were excited to pick their favorite colors (pink & purple). I was able to watch them each use their pencil and this is what I was able to observe with them.... Both were able to hold the pencils comfortably in their hands, both were able to write, trace and draw lightly and boldly to their desires. My 3 year old was tracing #'s and letters with her pencil and noticed that the lead was bold enough to be seen over the dark tracing prints. My oldest was drawing pictures and was able to make some beautiful shading with the pencils, and was also able to press down hard enough to make dark lines and was able to write beautifully. The pencils themselves are very comfortable to hold, and left no obvious marks or bumps on their hands/fingers.The only issue I noticed was my youngest seemed to push out more lead every time she was trying to erase, whereas this only happened a couple of times when my oldest was erasing. Overall the erasers erased pretty nicely and left very minimal marks. The quality of these mechanical pencils are outstanding versus a lot of the others offered in the stores. I will continue to buy these for my kids!

These mechanical pencils have an attached eraser, eraser cap, plastic grip, metal tip (where lead appears), easy access to refill lead and the tip of the pencil unscrews if the lead gets stuck. This is the smoothest, darkest writing mechanical pencil. It erases cleanly (no smudges & doesn't leave any eraser particles behind). The pencil is extremely durable & comfortable to hold (not thin and cheap like other brands). The plastic finger grip is nice but I personally would prefer an even softer ... My 10 year old has gotten very frustrated with mechanical pencils because he complains the lead always breaks or it's uncomfortable to use. He LOVES these BIC Velocity mechanical pencils though! He hasn't broken lead and hasn't complained once about his hand cramping or hurting. Making a side-by-side comparison I notice that the BIC Velocity mechanical pencils are thicker, have a plastic finger grip and have a metal tip where the lead comes out. BIC Velocity mechanical pencils are the only brand for our household! These pencils are built to last! I have dropped them countless times and they come away working perfectly. Other brands that I have used have cracked upon dropping or the plastic tip where the lead comes out has broken off. To add lead is super easy: remove the eraser cap, pull out the eraser, drop in the lead! Also the tip of the pencil just below the finger grip unscrews in case the lead gets stuck (though this hasn't happened to me). If I had to find a slight negative, I don't really understand the need for an eraser cap because it's clear & can get lost easily. Regardless, BIC Velocity mechanical pencils are a great product and the only pencils I'll be sending to school with my kids. I'll be spreading the word to friends and family going out to buy school supplies!

My husband is a mechanical pencil fiend and uses them all day for work. He usually buys regular Bic mechanical pencils and has always liked them, but he likes the heftier, sturdier feel of the Velocity pencils. He managed to convince our daughter to share a couple with him and he's been obsessed with using them ever since. The only downside is that we can't seem to find any of the regular Velocity pencils in store (only the side-click, which my family doesn't like as much). These are great pencils for kids and adults: lots of fun to look it, but really good at what they're meant for - writing smoothly!

My 3 children are all still using the first pencil they started with. They've all reported using their Velocity daily, at least once. They have no complaints. Very comfortable, sturdy, and stylish. They don't like school any better, but they definitely love their new Bic Velocity Pencils!

I gave a pack to my daughter to keep for school in September because she was just so excited when she saw them. According to her, these are definitely cool enough for middle school... phew! She loves mechanical pencils... lol she really does and so last year once in a while I would bring home a mechanical pencil or two from work (shhhh) for her but they are just the plain yellow Papermate ones we have at the office. Ok so yes I have a favorite too, orange but since I was going to review them, I had to look at more than just the cool colors although I will admit they are definitely much nicer to look at than the plain yellow ones. Compared to the Papermate mechanical pencils I had been using, these were definitely better. I love that they are refillable so already better than all those other ones that aren't. Not only can you refill the lead but you can replace the eraser too and both very easily which means that you don't waste the nice pencil even though you have used up the lead or eraser. The BIC pencils are thicker and have a cushioned grip that is very comfortable to hold. They write with a nice, smooth and dark, sharpness without having to press down extra hard and then worry that the lead is going to snap. Not what you would expect from a mechanical pencil but exactly what would expect from a regular pencil. They don't need sharpening which is nice since I have taken my" colors to work and we don't actually have a pencil sharpener there. I also like that they erase well and cleanly which is important to me
