The CampStove Portable Grill is fantastic. Just buy it.It allows you to grill a lot of food at once on your BioLite stove. It also makes you able to put in slightly longer wood pieces into the stove. If you're grilling something with fat, the drippings end up going into the stove and burning as fuel.My only wish for it is that the heat could be a bit more spread out. It's definitely hotter near the stove and not very hot at all farther out. And the instructions say it should be a moderate fire and low fan, I think, but I just blasted it on high and high to get enough heat to do four burgers. And I did move the burgers around so they all got cooked. Our BioLite lets us camp using our hybrid car, because we don't have to worry about transporting liquid fuel in ... And the portable grill lets us have all the fun of grilling over an open fire but using less fuel, creating less GHG emissions, and letting us control sparks coming out from the fire, and letting us have the fire die down much faster than a regular campfire.

I purchased this in December of 2019. Since thing, I've cooked a ton of food on here. Lamb chops, bratwurst, frozen burgers, steaks, etc. Last week I was in Ocean City State park and we cooked 18 frozen burgers and six hotdogs, and three chicken burgers. The grill has different temperature zones and requires a lot more attention than a normal grill. It takes more work. But when you can cook lunch for 15 people with 1/4of one fire place and some sticks you find on the ground, I can't complain. There are some tips and techniques that one needs to learn, that includes managing the heat on the campstove and having your wood ready for burning. It will discolor and the mesh grill seems to have warped a little bit. As for all of the biolite product range, considerable thought has been put into the design, and it's obvious that the products have been thoroughly tested. My only real "beef" with this grill, is that the focus has been on making it as light as possible, when in reality, an item like this is highly unlikely to be used by the backpacking crew at all. Maybe for a base camp cooker, but not likely. This has resulted in a grill surface that is quite flimsy, and being stainless steel, it tends to stick to meat surfaces (not sausages so much), meaning that when you go to turn the meat, you need to have two utensils; one to hold the grill down (it is a loose fit) and one to lift the meat. The thin light grill also loses its heat almost immediately when the cold meat touches ... The thin light grill also loses its heat almost immediately when the cold meat touches it, again, because the grill is so thin and light in weight. It simply doesn't hold any heat, which a grill needs to do. I'll be getting a plate of 4 mm steel cut to fit over the grill surface, which will hold more heat for longer, and being mild steel, will not be so likely to stick to the meat. Other than that beef, I like the design, and the portability factor.

I've had a Biolite stove for ages and always wanted to get the grill and finally saw this on eBay. I've used it a couple of times and it is fun and works! We used it for a picnic and although the grill isn't the biggest in the world it cooked a pack of chipolata sausages easily while were out on picnic and was enough to a lunch for a family of three. You can carry on adding fuel to the stove to carry on cooking if there are more of you (or you're hungry) but then people will have to wait. I'm also not sure how well it will fair with thicker food like burgers or thick sausages (will it cook all the way through? might need a bit more management and time). I'm also not sure how well it will fair with thicker food like burgers or thick sausages (will it cook all the way through? might need a bit more management and time). As it says in the instruction manual there is a fairly big temperature gradient across the grill so you have to keep an eye on what is cooking and move them around - but that the whole point of grill like this right? The temperature can be a bit fierce but can be adjusted by the amount of fuel added (obviously) and by closing the lid on to the stove. It integrates neatly with the stove, one of the things I do like is that it is that the Biolite is packaged neatly so that it is easy to contain the fire and it doesn't disturb the surroundings - we used it on a bench which makes it sociable and easy to use. The cover over the stove is really nice touch to protect you gear against the greasy, dirty grill once you've finished with it. Overall the stove works and is practical (works much better than the usb charging of the stove) and it fun to use. There might be better wood fired portable stoves out there that are lighter, with bigger grills that are cheaper but so far I've found this pretty good.
Pretty much decent product, easy to learn at first use. But picture worth a thousand words, see attached. Honest to say that look is after about 3 hours use combined. Sausages, steaks, fish... No complains. Takes really small amount of fuel. If you ask me quality and condition of fuel should be good - gives less smoke and better predictable outcome. Generally, does expected job. Fast shipping.
Have the camp stove kit, has been a nice change from gas stove I was using. I fill the stove with hard wood pellets, boil my water for coffee - 11 minutes on high fan, then cook on grill on low, still have plenty of pellets left if I wanted to cook more. Burn time was just over 40 minutes. I wish heat was a little more even , and I really wish there was a stainless grill cover for cooking. The last biolite stove had one (pizza cover) it was great. I am just going to make one I guess...
This was an impulse buy since I was given the campstove 2+ as a gift. Given the size of the grill, I found it only useful for 2-3 people. Maybe to roast burgers, hotdogs and grill vegetables. With it not having a lid I found cooking a bit longer during cold temperatures. Also I wish the metal lid to put in the fuel had some sort of lifting mechanism. It sometimes annoying trying to lift a hot metal lid to refuel every few minutes.
So I was enamored with the Biolite Camp Stove and picked up the grill to do steaks, hot dogs and burgers. Like the stove you really need to think of this as a controlled campfire and not a traditional BBQ burning gas. With that in mind the type of wood you use as well as how wet it is also plays a big part in the quality of your cooking heat and time. If conditions are good and dry and you have access to some nice hardwood the system does well, but throw in garbage or damp wood leads to excessive smoking and blackening of your food making it less than palatable. When cooking with less than desirable wood I highly recommended leaving the top hatch open and cranking up the fan to get the maximum amount of heat. When cooking with less than desirable wood I highly recommended leaving the top hatch open and cranking up the fan to get the maximum amount of heat. The radiant heat then extends (poorly) over the grill but at least you can move the meat around to cook it and not end up blackening your food. This also allows you to keep feeding the stove and monitoring the coal level and heat output level as well as letting the smoke escape without hitting your food. The plastic cover works well with containing/keeping the grill's dirt together but the secondary plastic latch that extends around the unit to seal up the small circular opening on the bottom of the grill where the stove connects to the grill is flimsy at best and while mine has not broken I have seen and heard of may that have. Weight wise its certainly better than carrying around a mini gas BBQ and I even impressed some friends with the lightweight and size compared to the mini BBQ they brought to a picnic.
This did not work as well as I had hoped. I tried it out at home before taking camping and in the end decided not to take it with me. I tested it with hot dogs - it took a long time to cook them and they tasted more smokey than grilled. Hard on the outside and cool on the inside. It's just too much work to keep the fire going hot enough to cook them.
I used this grill when I first got it in 2017 and unless they were material changes I doubt anything has changed. I used this grill over the last weekend to cook some bbq. Sausages cooked great and my burgers did well the next day. You have to let it heat up and there lies the issue. The inner heating element and grill grates are more rigid than the outside basin. The inner sections move or the outside changes shape which makes them no longer fit together properly. Which makes the heating in even. I plan to modify mine with some stainless steel screws and wing nuts to hold everything together in the future. The outside piece isn’t quite the right shape anymore for the plastic cover which now barely fits. This is after the uses. Love it and also disappointed at the ...
