This sugar is delicious, with a delicate caramel flavour and colour. We use it as a substitute for any type of brown sugar and highly recommend it. However it is ridiculously overpriced and so Ive docked two stars. Sounds harsh? Similar organic whole, fair-trade sugar brands are half the price, although sadly they are not available on Ocado currently. Im happy to pay extra to do good for the planet and my family but I would not buy this sugar at full price.

While we don?t usually have sugar anymore, I bought this to have on hand. The flavour of this sugar is great, it?s slightly caramel, but not in a way that would ruin the flavour of whatever you might use it in. After trying sweeteners, which just all taste metallic to me, I decided to go back to real sugar but wanted something more organic and less processed which led me to Biona. Glad I bought it; far superior to coconut sugar (and a lower price) and while we won?t be using it very frequently, is hands down more pleasant than sweeteners.

I have been buying rapadura sugar for years...until recently it has always been fine, but now I have had two bags which were hard. The last one, I had to bang it on the corner of the work-top as it was one solid lump. I then opened the pack but couldn't get any out of the bag so I stabbed it with a knife and then with a pestle and mortar, ground each individual lump. It took hours. Most disappointed. I was working to a deadline and because of this delay we had dinner really late

Bought this with high expectations but somehow it does not have that strong sweetness/flavour that you associate with unprocessed sugar. Bonraw is what I usually use and I will be going back to that.
Good flavour but not the same moist quality as dark muscovado. I live in hope I can find some again. Somewhere.
Don'Äôt know if it is just this batch as it'Äôs been a long while since I last bought this brand, but the taste is awful. No deep mellow or caramel notes which are characteristic of rapadura.
This is an awful product - especially compared to Billingtons that ocado has inexplicably dropped. As soon as it is in the storage jar it solidifies and we found ourselves having to chip it out. It's dreadful.
This was ok while I was only putting a couple of teaspoons in a bread mix but it ruined the cake I tried to make. It smelt unpleasant in the dry mix and completely overpowered the taste of the cake - which I then could not eat.
toffee like favour. indulgent with milk. try to book milk and sweeten with this stuff. amazing. also nice to sweeten coffee with milk. sweeten rice pudding with this until it looks nice and brown. delicious.
Lovely mellow flavour and I feel a bit better using this than other sugars. I do use it in my tea now (I transitioned by blending it with my normal organic sugar). Be warned it smells odd. That's due to the lack of intensive processing of the cane. Sugar cane comes from a plant and this smells like the earth. It tastes lovely though! Give it a try.
