I loved my Petzl Sama harness, but when it wore out, I tried upgrading to the BD Solution harness, because reviews seemed to indicate it was even more comfortable.Things I liked:Very comfortable for walking aroundVery comfortable for climbing/hangingCrotch loop attach point seems reinforced with metal-- very strong and durableDidn't like:The inner side of the leg loops pinched and scraped me when I was belaying...much less comfortable than the Sama in this function. The whole harness feels rubbery-- some may like this- I found it harder to pack away.No weight-bearing gear loopNo convenient and easy to use stretchy loop to tuck extra waist belt inches into.

I picked this up as my first harnesses as I'm getting into rope climbing after bouldering exclusively for the past 7 months or so.I can't speak from experience with other harnesses but I like the design and fit of the Solution. I tried on all the harnesses they had in-store and this one struck me as having the right balance of features (nice gear loops, easy to adjust) and minimal design. I haven't taken any falls in it yet but it is comfortable while climbing and sitting while being lowered.I ended up being kinda in-between the small and medium with a ~31 inch waist. I couldn't get the gear and belay loops centered with the small but I have to cinch the medium up nearly all the way.

So far so good. I’m new to climbing and have been using rental gear before purchasing the Solution harness. No complaints. Comfortable and consistent fit. Like that the leg loops don’t have a separate adjustment. While this may not work for everyone it seems great for me.I have only begun sport climbing so no outside experience. While other have commented on the smaller gear loops, I don’t see this being an issue for me any time soon.

There are not enough words in the English language to describe how much I love this harness. Currently, I am on my second solution harness and don’t think I’ll ever stop having one of these in my gear bags. Every woman I know that climbs loves this harness for it’s light weight and comfort despite how thin it is. It has happened many times where my friends and I have looked around to see we all have a version of the solution on. Honestly, everything about this harness is perfect down to the size of the hard gear loops.I will continue to suggest this harness and just today had a coworker tell me he ordered one for himself after trying mine due to how much he enjoyed climbing in it.If you need a long lasting, light, comfortable harness, I seriously suggest trying ... MoreThere are not enough words in the English language to describe how much I love this harness. While these were made for moving in the mountains, I bought them for use at work as a high rise window washer. A lot of people will use regular bulky rubber style rain pants to stay dry but I have always hated how those feel and the lack of stretch that comes with them. In the few days that I have used these, I like how mobile and stretchy they are and I have always been a fan of integrated belts as they are much more comfortable under a harness than wearing a separate belt.I was expecting them to be slightly thicker than they are but that's what comes with buying online and in reality they will work well for winter months with a pair of long underwear underneath. In the spring and fall they should be the perfect weight. In the spring and fall they should be the perfect weight. My long underwear also stayed dry despite having plenty of water get on these while working so so far the claimed water treatment on them seems legitimate. I am curious to see how it holds up through a few more months of work. I would be plenty confident wearing these in the mountains with the possibility of rain.I got these in a size medium, I'm 5'11 175lbs and normally wear a 32"32" and they fit very well on me.
BD has done it again with another fantastic harness. I used to wear BD harnesses exclusively for years then tried a different brand and was very disappointed. Coming back to the Solution Guide is so nice! This harness is incredibly light and has a very minimal design - yet still doesn't sacrifice comfort. It is incredibly comfortable to hang in as a climber working hard routes, as well as a belayer. The fabric is really unique and rough. I've yet to put it to the test in off-widths and chimneys yet, but I have a feeling it will hold up very well. The 5th gear loop in the back is also great for holding all your gear on a long journey.
I'm a gym climber and needed to replace my BD Momentum just based on years. I went with the Solution for the modest increase in price and to see if that would yield any noticeable increase in performance or comfort. I'd have to say that purely from a performance perspective, it's really a wash. From a comfort perspective, the Solution is a little lighter and I like that I don't need to adjust the leg loops. Climbers with thicker legs might not like the lack of adjustability, but climbers with average or thinner legs will probably appreciate the fit. The webbing in the waist buckle seems to cinch more smoothly, as well, but that could be because it's newer and not fuzzed with age yet, time will tell.
I've been climbing in the Solution for over a year now doing both sport and trad and I am super happy with it.*PRICE- $56 on sale is an amazing deal for this harness considering its quality and design. It's a great deal even at retail price of $75.*COMFORT- by far the comfiest harness I've worn. I've owned a BD momentum and a petzl corax before this and the solution is far more comfy despite having much thinner webbing. I was concerned about the elastic leg loops since I've always had adjustable ones before, but they are super convenient and comfortable. I now prefer this design to ones with buckles. Sometimes I have to adjust them when hanging, but it's very easy and not a problem at all. The solution also perfectly distributes weight from gear on your hips. ... MoreI've been climbing in the Solution for over a year now doing both sport and trad and I am super happy with it.*PRICE- $56 on sale is an amazing deal for this harness considering its quality and design. Sometimes I have to adjust them when hanging, but it's very easy and not a problem at all. The solution also perfectly distributes weight from gear on your hips. Even with a double rack on, the harness is comfy and you barely feel the gear. My old petzl corax had super thick webbing and weighed a ton but was not nearly as comfortable for hanging in and it sagged real bad on my hips when racked with gear.*MATERIAL AND PROFILE- material is very durable with no noticeable wear anywhere on mine after a year and nothing fraying. The profile is amazing because it's so slim and packs down in to your pack like nothing.*WEIGHT- this harness is super light which is a benefit for any discipline. Compared to my old petzl corax, this harness feels like a feather.*LOOKS- not really important but I like the blue and black design.*GEAR LOOPS- The gear loops are a bit small, BUT I can still easily fit a double rack of gear on my harness by racking more efficiently and clipping doubles of items together to preserve space. This was a change up from my Corax which could hold a ton of gear, but I've had no issues adjusting my racking style over to the solution and it's never given me issues leading trad when I'm sorting through gear on my harness. The comfort of the harness is WELL worth the change in racking style.OVERALL- I am super happy with this harness. I originally got it as a sport harness and was thinking I would get a secondary one for trad, but the comfort of this harness is so great that I don't want to wear anything else. (Edit- sorry for the wall of text. It doesn't allow paragraph separation)
As the description suggests, this is pure sport climbing harness. If you primarily climb single pitch sport, and especially if most of your climbing is at crags with either project or permadraws (or in the gym,) the Solution is a great option. The wide leg loops are super comfortable and did a great job of distributing weight when I was both hanging in the harness while working a project and while belaying my partner who was doing the same . The waist belt is wide and supportive around the back, but narrows at the sides and dug into my hip bones significantly at first, and while this has diminished as the harness broke in, after about 10 sessions of use it still a bit uncomfortable if the harness isn’t sitting in just the right position. The gear loops on the ... MoreAs the description suggests, this is pure sport climbing harness. Not only are they short front to back (you can only fit about 6 draws on one easily, 7 if you pack them in there) but they’re also much less deep than any harness I’ve ever come across and sit very close to your body. This does a good job of getting them out of your way while you’re climbing, and is great if all that’s clipped to them is a dogging draw, but if you’re hanging draws on every pitch (especially if you also have cleaning gear with you) they might be a bit small and fiddly. Don’t even think about getting a full trad rack on this harness, even multi-pitch sport will be pushing the capacity of its gear loops. That said, these are not what the Solution is designed for: it’s a sport climbing harness, and it’s great at that job. There are more versatile harnesses out there, and ones that are better suited to other disciplines, but the Solution is my favorite for single pitch sport climbing.I can’t comment on durability yet, but the construction quality appears to be great and the materials seem like they’ll stand up well to abuse, particularly the heavily reinforced hard points.
This is my 2nd harness. My first was that yellowish/green momentum that I still see many ppl with. That one was great and I had it for 10 years (though I had a 3 year hiatus from climbing). I wanted to try this bc of the fixed leg loops- a plastic piece on one my old ones buckles broke so it was always hanging loose. It surprised me that there is a break in period, maybe 5-10 sessions, where the waist buckle now makes it to the 2nd loop, and the fixed leg loops are no longer uncomfortable- And they really were! I would not say that I have disproportionate thigh girth.2 gripes: occasionally I feel a painful thigh pinch that I can’t quite figure out, I messed around with the elastic cord in the back and it hasn’t happened as often but it was painful (and infuriating) ... MoreThis is my 2nd harness. This will be noticeable if this isn’t your first harness. Visually it’s easy to tell and I’ve seen other ppl with older versions of this harness where the loops are deeper and turned out, looking the same as my old harness. It’s not a huge difference, but when you reach to it, it’s like a small pocket on pants that requires attention to get the carabiner just right so you can remove it. Sure, we can get used to this- but why?Final points: durability seems bulletproof, I can still use the bag to keep it organized. Get this when on sale. I have used this in gym extensively and outdoors on only 2 trips thus far.
