Excellent first climbing shoe

For the price? Spectacular shoe. I bought these as my first pair of climbing shoes to upgrade from rentals, and they've performed marvelously all the way up to now (bouldering V5s). They can keep a grip on tiny chips or smooth holds without any issue, and even when I've been climbing for a few hours and the shoes get a bit sweaty inside, they still feel stable. GREAT first pair of climbing shoes.

Extremely, comically undersized.

Ordered a US 14 (48.5) and the outer sole was a full big toe shorter than my bare foot. That’s almost 2 inches with a 14 foot. I called customer service to ask for a return shipping label because the product is so off size I’d consider it defective. I know that I was asking for a service (free returns) they don’t typically provide but the error in the shoe is egregious. Great beginner shoe on a budget

Grabbed this shoe for a friend who needed a shoe on a tight budget. He mentioned the break in period was quick, much quicker and less painful than my La Sportiva Finale shoes. The quality is decent for its price point, but improvements can be made. I would recommend only grabbing these shoes during a sale when its around $80 or under. Overall, you can't go wrong with these if you're just starting out.

Great beginner’s shoe
16 May 2023

I bought these shoes 6 months ago when I started indoor bouldering. The cheap price and the cool colors really caught my eyes. This is in my opinion on of the best begginner’s shoe. Not only will it get you started, but it will follow you during your progression. For example, my shoes follow me on V6’s. The only down side is that the top of the foot is not enough covered by the sole. A gap is already forming on top of my big toe because of toe hooks. As with any climbing shoes leave them to dry or they will smell really bad. After using these shoes two times per week for 6 months, I have enough experience with these to tell you that if you are a beginner, stop nsearching.

Great for a beginner climber! Size up though.
8 December 2023

I really like the quality of these shoes for the price. I’m a beginner climber, mostly into bouldering. I am typically a mens size 10.5 in street shoes, 11 in Nike runners, and 43 in Birkenstocks. I ordered an 11.5 and they were still way too tight to the point where my toes were curled and painful. I ordered a 12 and 13 which seemed ridiculous but the 12 fit perfectly with no socks on! If I were to wear socks it would be tight but bearable. The 12 was a little wider than the 11.5, but tightening the Velcro straps helped enough. I have an average width foot.

My go to shoe

If you’re a beginner or experienced looking for a gym burner (when you don’t want to destroy your TC pros), this is the shoe. The quick and dirty: in my experience, order a 1.5-2 sizes up from your street shoes for comfortable fit (able to wear socks with them on cold crag days). For reference - in brooks running shoes, I’ll wear 11.5, and I buy these in 13.Details:These are not aggressive and considered a ā€œsofterā€ shoe, that being said, they are comfy and do their job. Once worn down a bit after breaking in, you can really feel the small foot holds/chips on higher graded routes in gyms (think 5.11 and up).As for outside, you won’t have a problem wearing them for extended period of time (multi pitch belay and climb, for example), and in theory you could keep ...Ā MoreIf you’re a beginner or experienced looking for a gym burner (when you don’t want to destroy your TC pros), this is the shoe. I believe this shoe is meant to have a wider toe box so it would be better for those with wider feet. Also, I like the white and black version of this shoe - the previous model looked pretty nice too (grey and blue), but I can’t find them anymore.I hope this review helps at least someone out there who is looking for a pair of climbing shoes, thanks for reading.

Not bad, ok for beginners
23 May 2023

These shoes stink! I don't know if it's the hemp footbeds or knit (presumably synthetic) uppers. These are my 5th pair of climbing shoes (my first Black Diamond ones) and I've never had such a problem with shoe odor. Overpowering when taking them out. Still very stinking after letting them air out overnight on the patio. Boot Bananas help somewhat. Definitely don't just leave them in your crag bag until the next use. That being said, they are comfortable, durable, and perform well. Great beginner shoe. Runs a bit small - even for climbing shoes.

Not happy with size
13 August 2024

I purchased a pair of these four years ago and loved them so much. They finally got too worn out and I bought another pair. Same size, yet they fit so differently, and not in a good way. I have long, narrow feet and my last pair fit perfectly. These are wider and it allows my foot to move around too much. I don’t feel comfortable climbing in them. I’ve tried tightening the Velcro straps as tight as possible, but it doesn’t help and they don’t feel comfortable at all due to creases in the fabric. Really sad that I will have to return them and figure out another shoe to buy.

Perfect Climbing Shoe for Beginners(& Deep Water Soloing!!!)

*** Note: My shoe is the previous years model/color, but essentially the same shoe***This was my first climbing shoe and was great. However, as I began climbing hard and more frequently, I busted through the toe rubber in about 3-4 months. After this, I upgraded to Scarpa Vapor’s which was a great upgrade and a shoe I still use today for gym climbing. Now you’re probably thinking, why am I giving these a 9/10 recommendation and 5/5 stars? Well, I remembered how comfortable they were walking around the gym for long periods while still holding up well on moderate to hard routes. So, when I saw some barely used ones for sale at an REI garage sale, I decided to scoop them up again. Now, they are great shoes that I let new climbers wear when they come out with me AND I have found them to be PERFECT deep water solo shoes. It’s obvious these are perfect shoes for beginners, but they have been absolutely perfect for DWS. They are super comfortable to wear while chilling/paddling on the kayak, the flexible material makes them super easy to put on in the water, and I feel that the rubber hold just as sticky when wet. Having to trust wet hands and shoes can be hard, but I’ve found that I haven’t had to compromise at all with these! In conclusion, I would definitly recommend these shoes to a beginner or someone who has a lot of recreational DWS around!

great first shoe for me
19 August 2024

i honestly liked the shoe, it did everything i needed and were not too tight. not great for toe hooks or any hooking at all but im not really at that pedigree anyway to do that šŸ˜‚the rubber was grippy and a stark difference to the rental shoes i had used up until then, and the laces did a great job of personalizing my fit. my main issue, which turned into a big one later on was this seam on the inside that flared up, and dug so hard into my foot that it made me leave the gym, and buy some overly expensive shoes out of frustration/impatience lol. not saying the same will happen to you but it seemed like an inherit design flaw that could potentially happen to anyone.
