Horizon Hobby 230S Smart worked right out of the box as expected. However the buid quality of this RC helicopter at this $250-$350 price range compared to other brands lacks. All plastic frame and rotor head etc. no CNC aluminum parts whatsoever. Tempted to give it less than 5 stars for this alone. Flight performance is acceptable though. The requirement for brand-specific Smart techology batteries and chargers is costly and limiting, unless one is technically capable and savvy to modify the heli. Otherwise one is locked into the pricier battery and charger technology. The remote control transmitter supplied is also the most basic model and won't allow to access the more advanced functionality. Blade 230 S

The Blade 230 S is a great helicopter. It is very helpful for the inexperience helicopter flyer to have a helicopter setup and ready to fly from the box.

Blade 230s v2

Nice looking helicopter, flies really well. Not flown it to much though down to the weather and time of the Yr. Only drawback I can see is the canapy is a very weak plastic.

Great Beginner Helicopter

Im writing because most of the other reviews I read, were not informative. The 230S V2 is a well put together, easy to repair, sturdy beginner helicopter. It will certainly do some stunt and 3D flying, but its forte is letting newer pilots be successful flying a helicopter. With a motorized tail instead of a belt or torque tube driven tail the 230 isnt going to be a real stunt demon. The included DXe transmitter is adequate to learn to fly and to do some mild stunts, but isnt the radio for complex 3D aerobatics. Getting a better radio, like a DX6 would extend the abilities of this helicopter even more. It is also very easy to work on, when that crash does come. As with many helicopters, the landing skid is a little weak and can break. There are several after market landing skids that work well and are somewhat more durable.

Great helicopter for the price

Great little chopper that performs like a bigger one. I love the settings that change with a flip of the switch. Parts are very reasonable if needed.

Helicopter with SAFE-NOT!

I've flown helis for 15 years. This does what it wants to-not what you command. Hovered for 45 seconds, then took off and looped into the ground. I gave HH the benefit of the doubt and have replaced $50 worth of parts. After repairs, took off the blades and spooled it up. The heli immediately moved the swash plate in the same direction as it crashed, with no input from me. They are supposedly sending me a new flight controller-been waiting a month! Don't buy--quality control a thing of the past?

Overpriced mistake

I am a novice heli flyer with 3 cheap Eachine helis and my first 4 channel blade S70 and it still flyes. I get as much air time as possible on my Real Flite, cause I lack the gift and crashing even the Chinese Eachine E160 is very costly. I have flown the Blade 230 many hours and can't believe what poor performance it has. The only way a begginer can keep it air born is in smart mode. Intermediate and advance modes are terribly bad. I can fly decently many other helis in RF but not that mistake.

two many problems

The battery was to 12.5 when I got it fine. Went to fly, noticed something is not right. contacted nitrohobbys said contacted horizon. I'm not happy,the battery are over priced buy turnigy 1000mah on ebay,half the price. In flight mode 1 the throttle will not go down,ready for take off. How do I land. Did what to do in the manuel. Now I have to contack horizon.
