We've had the Blendtec Designer Series for 8 years now and used it virtually every day so here's the good and the bad with the bad first in hope that it gets attention:Bad: The jar. It's plastic and pits very easily. We put seeds in our smoothies like chia and they cause the jar to pit and stain. You can feel the roughness on the sides of the jar after only a couple of months of use and after a year of use it is very badly stained (especially if you use cocoa powder like we do) and no amount of cleaning will remove it. Replacing the jar costs $110! Highway robbery if you're doing it on an annual basis. With a blender this expensive, the jar should be made of glass and built to last. It should also be dishwasher safe. The "Use & Care" says "top rack only". As proof they have jars loaded on the bottom rack in the photo they have for "Use & Care"! The other issue we had was the ground tong of the plug came out after only a couple of years of use but not a big deal.Good: Despite the jar I don't think we could have bought a better blender. The fact that the base has lasted without issue for 8 years is proof of this. It blends like no other blender we have used. We tried a Ninja, for example, and it couldn't properly blend chia seeds like the Blendtec can. It's a also a good looking blender. Overall, I would recommend, just wish they would improve the jar.

I was originally planning to buy $500.00, but the next day this went on sale for $250.00. I would say this blender is worth it at the price I paid, but I would not shell out $500 for it. After making a few things in it I will say it does the job well. Fruits and veggies are completely liquefied, and there's no bit left over. Doesn't quite completely breakdown things like blackberry seeds, but I can deal with that. This blender is also maybe the easiest one I've ever had to clean, and it's safe to handle with the blunt blades. If you're like me and are just primarily going to make a smoothie or protein shake this is probably where this machine shines.A couple of drawbacks to this machine is that the touch pad is overly sensitive, and I get the touchpad error button ... MoreI was originally planning to buy $500.00, but the next day this went on sale for $250.00. Also, It doesn't seem to handle thick smoothies well, and you'll get air pockets which probably wouldn't be an issue if there was a tamper like on a Vitamix.Overall, I like it though. I just wouldn't recommend anyone paying over $250 for it. It might be worth paying the extra money for something like Vitamix e310, since it has a tamper, and the controls are probably not as troublesome.

The blades are installed and sealed at the factory – you cannot remove them. After that, it display the number of seconds left for each pre-programmed cycle you select for blending.** Automatic Cycles – There are six automatic blending cycles: Batters, Ice Crush, Smoothies, Ice Cream, Juice, and Soups. Each of these cycles has been pre-programmed for variable speed settings, which change through that particular blending cycle. The variable speed settings allow time for your ingredients to be drawn down into the vortex of the blender blades for greater uniformity. The blender automatically shuts OFF when the cycle is finished.** Pulse Cycle – Any blending process that requires just a few seconds can be done through depressing the Pulse Cycle. It can mix, chop, mince, froth, or whip in just seconds. You must depress the Pulse Cycle t keep in in operation – release when finished.** Slider Control – You can manually control the speed of your blender. Increase, decrease, or vary the speed to get your desired results. I grind my own coffee blends from whole roasted Colombian and roasted Jamaican mountain-grown beans using the Slider. YUMMY!** Other Icon Displays – There is a warning Temperature Icon, which will glow when the blender motor unit is overheated. A Touch Error Icon, which glows when you have touched more then one sensor for operation. A warning Phone Icon, which will glow when you are alerted to call a Blendtec Service Representative. A Stop Button (X), which will stop the blender immediately.** Warranty – Limited warranty for eight full years. NOTE – You must retain your original proof of purchase. Here are some of the 'goodies' I made after a whole week of using this blender: Tangerine Smoothies, combination of Cantaloupe and Honey Dew Mellon fruit juice, grinded roasted coffee beans into my own personal blends, made Butternut Squash, and Asparagus soups, and ground up two pounds of Pork Shoulder and two pounds of Chuck Steak to freeze for making chili later on. I love this Blendtec Designer 650s. Its power, versatility, ease-of-use, and especially, the uniform consistency of well-blended ingredients regardless of how thick, fibrous, or hard is what makes this a 'must-have' blender for my kitchen. Did I mention how easy it is to clean? WooHoo!It is not inexpensive, but when you see what this blender can replace, it is a bargain. I no longer need my worn-out coffee grinder, my dated juicer, my electric ice cream maker, and will probably no longer need my hand-crank, meat grinder as this Blendtec does all of these functions, and, exceptionally well.I highly recommend the purchase of this Blendtec Designer 650s for yourself, family member or friend, who loves to cook and enjoys healthful benefits from the use of this kitchen appliance. It would make a great gift for newlyweds, and even for Grandma and Grandpa too.

Fantastic blender!!

The Blendtec - Designer Series 8-Speed Blender - Stainless is simply the best blender I've ever used.It is heavy enough to set firmly on the counter or table surface without moving while running at its highest speed. With its 36-oz pitcher in place, the whole unit is 16" high so it will fit under most overhead cabinets for temporary storage away from your workspace. The lid snaps down on the pitcher so that it is secure. Power? This thing has a 3HP 1560W commercial grade motor. It powers through meat or anything else you would put in a blender. It is exceedingly simple to operate and clean. The impressive blade unit is not removable from the pitcher, so there's no disassembling it to clean it and hoping you reassemble it correctly so that the pitcher doesn't leak ... MoreThe Blendtec - Designer Series 8-Speed Blender - Stainless is simply the best blender I've ever used.It is heavy enough to set firmly on the counter or table surface without moving while running at its highest speed. The impressive blade unit is not removable from the pitcher, so there's no disassembling it to clean it and hoping you reassemble it correctly so that the pitcher doesn't leak when you next use it. You simply put a couple of drops of detergent in the pitcher with some water and pulse the blender as needed. It will swirl the contents up to the top of the pitcher as long as you run it. Then just rinse the pitcher and lid in hot water and set it aside to dry. The base has a digital screen in front of where the pitcher sets, and the rest of the base is wrapped in stainless steel. Just wipe the entire base off with a damp cloth, and you're done. This blender is by far the easiest blender to clean that I've ever used.On the control panel, it offers a digital slider for manual speed control - just touch the slider or slide your finger up or down the wide slider icon to the speed you want. In addition, it has the preset icons along with a power icon and alert icons for various situations. It has 6 presets: Batters to mix or whip batters, sauces, dips and dressing: Ice Crush to blend mixed drinks, milkshakes or to simply crush ice: Smoothie to blend your smoothies: Ice Cream to actually make ice cream: Whole Juice to make whole juice or green drinks: Soup to make hot soup (blade action actually heats the ingredients) or hot chocolate. These presets have been fashioned to run the blender at different speeds at different points in the blending process to obtain excellent results - just put your liquids in first, then the lighter solids above that and the heavy solids above that. The soup we made using the Soup preset was excellent! The Blendtec blender comes with a book to show you how to properly use your blender for smoothies, frozen treats, hot soups, juices and dips & dressings. More recipies are available at Blendtec.com.If you want a simple to operate blender that cleans easily and does a superb job blending, mixing, whipping or any other blender job, you will love the Blendtec - Designer Series 8-Speed Blender - Stainless.

Fantastic blender, easy to use, No sharp blades

Top notch blender. I was hesitant to purchase as a lot of online forums recommend the main competitor, but I decided to try the Blendtec and it’s exceeded my expectations. I’ve used the blender ~75 times for smoothies and it’s never struggled to blend anything. I’ve never had to scrape the sides to push anything into the smoothie. The blender allows for me to add chia seeds, pomegranates or berries to the smoothie without being able to notice the seeds while drinking. So far I haven’t had to run the smoothie option more then one time to have proper consistency. Cleaning is easily done without scrubbing and there’s no sharp blades to worry about if you needed to scrub for some reason. The lid can be a little tricky to tell if it’s on all the way. The noise of the machine while making smoothies is average for blenders. I don’t think it’s any louder than other models with less HP. The touch display is nice and easy to use. The warranty on the product is great. American company and American made.

Good for groups, not so much individuals

Works well for large portions but was a headache to make a 20oz smoothie in. Even using the lowest setting cavitation was a constant issue unless you used almost 50/50 liquid to frozen fruit, and that’s just not thick enough for my taste.I know you can buy smaller wild side jars but it was ultimately cheaper to return this and buy a Vitamix.I feel like a tamper would have totally resolved my issue, but that has to be bought separately and voids the warranty.

1 December 2017

The Blendtec Designer Series 8-Speed Blender is a VERY impressive blender. But at a price of almost 300-400 dollars is it REALLY worth the price difference compared to other brands? I asked myself this question while putting this blender through its tests. I must say, the blender itself is very well made and the fact that it has an 8 year warranty gives me great peace of mind. But for the price point I'm not so sure it's really worth it. I think they could include a little bit better quality mixing container. Compared to the Ninja pro blender I already have in the house I think the top lid is pretty cheap. The ninja came with a lock on lid and a spoon to help loosen things if need be. Now I must say that I think the Blendtec is much more powerful, so maybe it ... MoreThe Blendtec Designer Series 8-Speed Blender is a VERY impressive blender. The ninja came with a lock on lid and a spoon to help loosen things if need be. Now I must say that I think the Blendtec is much more powerful, so maybe it doesn't need a spoon but for what I really use it for which is mostly milkshakes and smoothies I believe both are comparable. I think the difference could be grinding up a huge amount of items that could possibly overwhelm the Ninja. I think the Blendtec is a fantastic blender and the smoothies I've made so far have been creamy and delicious. But I always wonder why with some of the company's pre made settings that they insist on blending something for so long. For example the smoothie setting is 60 seconds. After about 15-20 i would consider it to be completely blended and anything else is overkill. Not sure if they're thinking you are making smoothies for 6, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary blending. Luckily you can manually do whatever you like, but sometimes i feel like companies try to overcomplicate the blending process. I think this blender is great and I can't wait to use the recipes they include and really explore this blender more. But for me I probably would save your money and get a comparable blender at about half the price and add in an additional item like an espresso machine or something!

BLENDTEC Model: DESIGNER 650s Are you looking for a blender that will match visually with a high end kitchen? The Blendtec has a luxury look and feel, with its heavy stainless steel cladding, disappearing seamless control panel, and crystal clear plastic jar, with stainless steel blade. The Blendtec has a typical footprint, but its slightly shorter, square jar requires less height, so it can actually be operated under many top cabinets. And, it’s a powerhouse blender, with an advertised 3 HP motor. And, it’s a powerhouse blender, with an advertised 3 HP motor. There’s a colorful recipe book, describing drinks, salsa, soups, yogurt and smoothies. The control panel is smooth, and disappears with no seams or indicator other than one red power button on the upper right corner. Cleaning is never more than a wipe across the smooth control surface or the motor housing. When the power button is lightly pressed the entire control panel lights up with icons, revealing the various programmed blend patterns (batter, ice crush, smoothie, ice cream, whole juice, and soups). There’s a digital slider controlling the motor speed manually and a pulse button. There are also 3 error icons (overheating, button touch, service needed). It’s high tech, with none of the drama.Operation is shown in the short video we took. Fill the jar, set it on the motor housing (no twisting needed)., press power, then press your program. Watch the choreography. This is a powerful blender, not likely to be perturbed by any cooking project you want accomplished. While the manual makes no mention of keeping a hand on the top cap, I’d recommend it. Ice or firmer foods may result in an initial startup kick, which quickly settles. My standard smoothie is an assortment of fruits, some frozen. This blender looks like it’s completed the task at 30 seconds, but the program runs a full 60 seconds. Other programs run different lengths, but then, you can pulse or control speed and time all manually, very easily. This is a powerful and attractive appliance. I could easily imagine others will love this blender, but for the price. Of course, if you’re insisting on an elegant tabletop appliance, price won’t matter.

Blending frozen fruit and ice is flawless - no plunger needed. The 1500W commercial grade motor is strong enough to drive the aggressive blade so you don't need a messy plunger. It incorporates a state-of-the-art touch slider, touch it anywhere to jump to any speed, and slide your finger to fine-tune your blend. This Blendtec blender has a precision balanced direct drive and motor assembly. The precision-machined socket connects directly to the motor, resulting in both reduced vibration and noise. The innovative airflow design keeps the blender cooler. A cooler motor means a longer life (it has an eight-year warranty). The blender fits easily under most cabinetry. Great Blender at a reasonable price!

USA well made blender for a variety of uses.

Excellent, rugged blender. Ample size jar. Well made and easy to use. Been primarily making smoothies. Great at crushing ice and blending with all kinds of fresh fruit. Can see how it would be helpful in making soups, too. Haven't explored all uses yet. Appreciate fact that the blade is part of the blender jar. Very easy to clean. Also like that the jar is not heavy to lift. I'd originally thought about getting a glass blender, but too heavy and not as rugged. Got this at a great price from Best Buy.
