I don’t understand the sizing of this. It says 8 cups. 1 cup is 8oz. So this should hold 64oz. Yet it says it holds 34oz. A serving size of coffee is 6oz. So if this can brew 8 cups of coffee it should be 48oz. Yet it says 34oz. Is this not meant for coffee? And it can’t be to make espressos because the serving size for an espresso is at most 2oz. That would mean this could make 17 servings of espresso, not 8. In actuality, this French press only makes 5.5 cups (6oz serving) of coffee. I’m upset I bought this. Even more now after reading everyone else’s review about the handle splintering.

I absolutely love this French press! I’ve had many kinds and I have always felt the ceramic is best. I’m the only one who drinks coffee in my house so it’s the perfect size for me and I throw the rest in a thermos. I saw a lot of reviews about the handle splintering on people and I’m assuming it’s because they threw it in the dishwasher or soaked it in water. It definitely needs to be hand washed and dried and like any other wood product should avoid being wet for long periods of time. I’ve had it for over a year and still love this!

The ceramic arm attached to the handle broke off while being gently washed after the second use. Definitely recommend getting the insurance if you want any return on invest. It was gorgeous though.

As others have said, the handle is poor quality. After a few months, the wood degraded and started causing splinters. My husband sanded it down and sealed it, so it was usable again. Then, yesterday, after just less than 1 year of once- or twice-weekly use, the ceramic at the handle broke off as we pulled up the plunger. I asked Bodum if it was under warranty, and they would NOT stand behind their product. So don’t buy it or any of their products...
This Bodum coffee press works well and looks stylish. It is easy to clean. The press has a rubber lining around the filter works great to stop any grinds from getting in the coffee, but it also makes it very hard to put the press top and filter in base when not in use and storing away. This is only because the rubber around the filter gets stuck on the sides when it’s dry, when pressing down with the hot water inside it has no issues. Also after several hand washes, the wood handle has begun splintering some.
The handle is really poor quality. We’ve had it for less than two months and the handle is giving off large splinters and isn’t attached solidly to the container...very frustrating.
