Bosch POF 1400 Ace Milling Machine Silver

I would like to see more detailed instructions about use with different styles of bit. The spring is very strong so you have to press down like the Incredible Hulk to plunge the bit.

A many-featured product, much advanced from my previous Bosch router. Also supplied with collets for 1/4", 6mm and 1/2" tools. With vacuum extractor fitting.The only down-side is that the switch is not latching, for safety reasons, no doubt, but I would have preferred latching switch.

This is my first router so wasn’t sure what to expect. Hearing protection is a must! The instructions didn’t seem brilliant but YouTube helped out. Seems to work great though! Depth setting seems a little complicated but I’m sure it’ll get easier with time. All in all, a great first router!

Fantastic Machine

This item arrived in a robust plastic carry case with everything in a nice neat and stored location. Everything was there for basic routing needs including a straight router bit. I was very impressed with first impressions and was not disappointed when plugged in and used. The body is sturdy and ergonomically set up for ease of use. I just love the feel of this machine. It is sturdy and feels every bit as professional as some of the more expensive routers out there. I have used this as a hand held and bench mounted and both situations work very well. The only minor observation I have is that getting to the router bit collet is a bit fiddly but once you have worked out your own technique it isnt a big issue. The dust extractor works very well and I used a Lumber Jack dust extraction unit which removed pretty much all cut material. The fine adjuster gives a good range and accurate degrees of adjustment. The LED lights are a great feature and really do light up the work area very well. This is a must when navigating freehand markings on the material being cut. The motor is strong and no drag was experienced whilst routing oak boards. The other minor issue you may encounter if bench mounting is keeping the thumb switch engaged. I used a spring clip to keep the switch engaged andoperated the mains via a normal electrical switch. Only other observation is this wont take 1/2 router bits but most of my bits are 6 or 8mm so doesnt present a major problem for me. For the price and quality of this router I am now considering buying a second item so I dont have to dismount my bench setup. I have used various other routers ranging in price and brand and this Bosch 1400 kit does it all for me when looking at cost and quality. Highly recommend it for home enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Good power tool for DIY

For the price it is a great tool. I have been using it for making furniture and few things around the house. It has enough power and works well. Precession control is slightly a gimmick, but it does work when you really need to (but doe stake testing).It is a big unit, so do check if you need the power, otherwise smaller units are much easier to work and they are powerful enough for small work.

Meets what I expected

Very good router, powerful, and modern. The most: work lighting lamp, good finish, very fast fixing of the guide to copy (but requiring the purchase of guides to copy with the same fixation ...), precise adjustment of the depth, blocking of the depth by default ( you have to act on the lever to unlock it, unlike my old routers). Minuses: the sliding of the depth presents hard points, and absence of blocking of the switch, annoying for the assembly under table.

Not good

Had to be returned as the collet was stuck inside the spindle and was impossible to remove. Also don't understand why the 8mm European collet is fitted as default when you can only get quarter inch bits in the UK. I got a refund and bought a different router.

Same plunge lock issues

I have an earlier version of this. I must replace it as the ridiculous plunge lock keeps letting go mid work piece. It's done this since new. I looked at this version thinking that it must have been sorted out only to see it's identical. I assume the plunge bushes are identical too and theses have always been prone is getting sticky.

After a few tests on a "guinea pig" board, I am once again convinced by this Bosch product. Good grip, powerful engine, easy adjustments. Dust extractor recommended. I can't wait to start making my wardrobe!
