Nice machine. Bought to replace a 30 year old green Bosch in which a bearing failed, overheated and melted the case!By comparison with the DIY tool, this is much nicer as you might expect. I tend to use a portable planer for rougher work, where I'm smoothing a wavy cut line or making a tapered piece parallel. I have a planer/thicknesses for accurate work. Very often I'm introducing the tool to the work part way along to take a bump off. The weight of the tool is about right for me, easily handled but enough to not try to push off the wood if it gets to a hard bit.I was a bit sceptical of the single blade, which means the drum does a full rotation for each pass of the blade, but it works fine. I also like the extra length of the sole compared to the DIY tool. I'm ... MoreNice machine. I'm still getting used to the spring loaded thingy that keeps the blade off a surface when you put the tool down, the old planer didn't have that and I'm trying to learn not to retract the blade each time I put the tool down. The spring loaded thingy doesn't interfere with my technique of starting a cut part way down a piece of wood.Dust collection into the bag is good, but it can convert a lot of wood into shavings quickly so needs frequent emptying. But if the bag was bigger it would be irritating, so for me it's about right. I'll only use the bag outside anyway, inside I have dust extraction I can connect.

My Dad has one of these and I have used it regularly. On deciding to buy one for myself due to the volume of work I have still to do, I carefully weighed up the pro’s and con’s between this and the Makita opposition. The Makita is slightly higher power and cuts to 4mm. On balance it was the significant weight difference between the units that made my decision, and having used one of these countless times previously, I am confident it will do the range of jobs I have lined up for it nicely. Complete farmhouse renovation and a couple of other rental properties. Buy with confidence.

've had a few electric planer over the years snd feel that I can give a fair opinion on the bosch planer. The old adage of you get what you pay for comes to mind after using it. I've gone for a couple of cheaper models in the past as I use it for d.i.y projects around the house and they where terrible from the start. This is not the case with the bosch go. It's simply one of the best planet I've used. It feels robust from first pickup. It's a very quite compare to my last one. Shaves very accurately. The dust extractor actually collects the waste. I would recommend this planer very highly.

I mostly buy Bosch mid-range, as I find it very good quality for the DIY enthusiast who doesn't warrant enough use for expenditure of top-end professional products. This planer (as with most Bosch tools) comes in it's own robust box, although is a little tricky to locate the planer back in position, so take note of how it sits when you first remove it. The planer runs very smooth and does an excellent job & the dust bag "switch side" option is handy & works well. Don' forget the blade is reversible, when the first side begins to get blunt.
This machine has worked really well for me. It is robust, not too heavy, and the depth of cut adjustment is quick and so useful. I have given it quite a hammering and had to purchase a much bigger pack of spare blades because I have been using it to prepare old oak beams and posts for a sculpture I'm making. Despite spending hours pulling out nails there are always one or two I've missed. Therefore, being able to replace the planer blades so easily is a real bonus.
Blinding piece of kit and faultless performance.I always head to wickes for my power tools, great customer service and excellent products. I have a saying when it comes to shopping at Wickes,"If the tool that you want plugs into a socket, you leave with a smile and more in your pocket ! "
Really well designed Planer, I'd never used one before but it was really simple to get to grips with and I wish I'd got one earlier. I had messed up my first beech kitchen worktop and eventually got a replacement via Screwfix. I had cut it to size and cut out the sink aperture, it was on trestles so was turned upside down so I could affix a damp barrier and seal the underside. By the morning it had warped at the end I was going to join to my existing and perfectly level worktop. To say I was horrified is an understatement BUT with my new toy and a bit of practice I was able to vary the planing depth and plane off the 'hump' brilliant machine! Although the dust bag was useless, it blocked up in seconds then wouldn't work at all, turns out the stitching had come ... MoreReally well designed Planer, I'd never used one before but it was really simple to get to grips with and I wish I'd got one earlier. Bought predominantly for a project requiring the cutting of pieces of C16 and it worked effortlessly. I'm sure it'll get used a lot more now I know what it's capable of.Comfy to use and not too heavy, just the right amount of 'features' and I think is very good value for money - would have expected to pay more.Have read elsewhere people saying a negative point is it doesn't have a brake. For what I used it for I'm not really sure why this matters. Slice through wood, release the trigger, and the blade is guarded so you can put it straight down and the spinning stops after a few seconds. Maybe it's required for other uses but no issues for me.
I have used this on several jobs now for tasks as simple as reducing the height of a door after a carpet was fitted to planning lengths of pre-cut timber to build a new framework for a garage door. The plane has been excellent, making good even cuts on the timber and being used for long passes without complaints. The only minor issue I would level at it is that the deeper settings can very quickly clog the outlet (even when using an extractor) unless you significantly reduce the speed of the pass to a very low speed.Overall an excellent tool which has delivered on everything you would expect from the brand and for the price.
Very easy to use straight from the box. Leaves a very good finish at its finest setting. Coarsest settings probably beyond my needs. Instruction booklet adequate but brief. No information about available accessories.
