That being said, I’d argue it’s one of the main reasons you should want to consider purchasing the S1 Pro+ in the first place.BUILD:The S1 Pro+ has a rugged, durable-feeling build. It doesn’t at all feel cheap, and while it certainly has some weight, it’s also not unwieldy. It’s actually surprising how light it actually is given how it looks.Compared to my traditional 10” 1000W PA speaker, the S1 Pro+ is significantly lighter, and can be carried and positioned using only 1 hand thanks to its rugged top handle. So if you’re used to carrying a much larger PA speaker with two hands like I am, you’ll be happy to know that the S1 Pro+ will let you take fewer trips to whatever gig you have.Additionally, you can put it in 4 different configurations—flat, tilted back, on its side and tilted up as a monitor, or on a speaker stand. So whether you’re just doing karaoke, playing in a coffee shop, or busking out on a street, there is versatility to suit your needs. And the system automatically adjusts the EQ for each of these configurations, since it knows that each configuration will yield different sonic characteristics it may need to compensate for.INPUTS / OUTPUTS:The S1 Pro+ has 3 inputs. Channel 1 & 2 are both ¼” / XLR hybrid inputs for wired dynamic microphones or instruments. It’s important to note that these XLR inputs DO NOT deliver 48V Phantom power, so you are limited to dynamic microphones.Alternatively, if you have either of the wireless transmitters, you can remove the rubber plugs next to these inputs and dock the wireless transmitters where they can recharge from the S1 Pro+, receive firmware updates, and be set up to perform wirelessly. If you opt to go with these wireless transmitters, they will function over Channel 1 & 2. It’s important to note that you can’t use a wired and wireless input on the same channel. But you’re more than welcome to use a wireless transmitter on one channel while using a wired connection on the other, or wireless transmitters on both channels. In my experience, latency from these transmitters is good when you’re nearby the S1 Pro+, but latency will become more noticeable once you are 20-30ft away.Channel 3 is technically multiple inputs. You can provide either a ¼” balanced mono line input, a 3.5mm stereo line input, as well as bluetooth connectivity. You are able to use one of these physical line inputs as well as a bluetooth device simultaneously on Channel 3, so if you wanted to connect a keyboard/synthesizer in addition to using your phone over Bluetooth, this would be the best way to do so.There is also an XLR Line out if you want to send the mix to another sound system or speaker. You can also enable a crossover to optimize sound for use with a powered subwoofer via this output.Lastly, there is a USB-A output for charging a mobile device and USB-C output for Live Stream mode and firmware updates via a computer.HIDDEN INPUT CAPABILITIES:Within the online manual, Bose displays a number diagrams for over 10 different configurations that folks may want to use. And it’s not immediately obvious everything that the S1 Pro+ supports without reading it, so I highly recommend checking it out to see if it will fit your specific use-case.In my particular use-case, I wanted to leverage the wireless transmitter with my electric guitar, but also be able to run through my Neural DSP Quad Cortex amp modeler. And since the wireless transmitter only works with the Bose S1 Pro+ since there’s no detachable receiver, it wasn’t immediately intuitive out of the box on how I could achieve this. But reading the section in the manual titled “GUITARIST WITH WIRELESS TRANSMITTER AND AMP MODELER PEDAL” It diagrams how I can use the send & return outputs of my modeler via an insert cable. On another page within the manual titled “CONNECT EFFECTS TO A CHANNEL INSERT WHEN USING A WIRELESS TRANSMITTER” it describes that cable as a ¼” TRS to dual ¼” TS cable. I did a quick search, bought the cable, and with a bit of configuration within my amp modeler, I was soon using my wireless receiver. That being said, if you have a similar use-case as I do but want to go wired, it’s a bit more straightforward, with just a bit more cables involved.CONTROLS:Once you’ve figured out which inputs you want to use, you can also use the onboard control knobs to navigate menus by pressing them as a button, and dial in your mix by rotating the knobs. On Channels 1 & 2, you can control volume, bass and treble, as well as a reverb. On Channel 3, you can control volume bass and treble, but no reverb. If you’re using a bluetooth audio source, it’s important to note that the volume setting from your source device (e.g. smartphone) will be independent from the volume control of the volume knob for Channel 3.Additionally, pressing and holding any of these knobs for 3 seconds will enter the secondary menus.BATTERY:While I haven’t been able to put the S1 Pro+ through the most rigorous usage yet, Bose claims up to 11 hours of use out of the S1 Pro+ with “typical usage” and to allow up to 4 hours to fully charge the system battery. If you need to check the system battery level and charging status, you can look at Channel 3’s display for the battery status, and a lightning bolt will appear if it’s actively being charged. And no worries, you can still use it while it’s being charged.Bose also claims that the wireless transmitters will last up to 5 hours with typical usage and to allow up to 2 hours to fully charge the transmitter battery, so bear this in mind if you’re expecting to operate the S1 Pro+ for prolonged periods of time.APP:For me, the app is a critical element of the S1 Pro+. It gives you the ability to adjust volume, EQ and reverb into scenes that you can save and reload. This means you can dial in mixes for different scenarios and reuse them without having to fidget with knobs. I chose to create a scene for karaoke where I’ve dialed in the mix and reverb across 2 microphones and a bluetooth audio source, and I’ve also created another scene specifically for my guitar amp modeler.Another app feature that’s very useful is ToneMatch. Initially, when I set up my guitar modeler, the sound wasn’t quite what I expected, but by going into the ToneMatch settings for that channel and selecting an Instrument ToneMatch preset for Utility > Full Range Flat Response, I was able to get a much more sonically pleasing sound for my guitar modeler. Additionally, there were also Microphone ToneMatch options for popular handheld microphones like the Shure SM58 and Sennheiser E855 which delivered a better tonal balance for those microphones when enabled. There is a decent sized list of ToneMatch presets for different scenarios, and hopefully the list grows over time to better meet the needs of the community.SOUND:From what I can see, the Bose S1 Pro+ consists of 3 tweeters in an array and a woofer placed behind the tweeter array.Out of the box, I do think that using it flat on a ground surface may yield a much-too-bassy frequency response, so I find that it sounds much better when tilted back or put it on its side tilted up. Your mileage may vary, but limiting the bass resonance with the ground has yielded a more natural sound profile to my ears that is clear without being boomy. I’ve not yet put it on a speaker stand, but that would also deliver a more balanced frequency response. It’ll really depend on where you use it and the acoustic environment. I’ve also cut back or added bass via the EQ for different circumstances. For general music-listening via bluetooth or aux-in, it’s important to note that the S1 Pro+ is not a stereo system—it down-mixes stereo audio into mono audio. This is really meant as a PA speaker that has additional functions for performance purposes. If you’re not interested in performing and just want a speaker for listening, you will want to look elsewhere. Even so, I find that bringing a speaker like this to a party can still be good if you want to pair it up with another or other speakers. But as a single speaker, it’s very directional, so the sound field won’t be particularly wide. For live performance vocals, the S1 Pro+ does a great job at keeping them prevalent in the mix without completely drowning other instruments out. If you’re considering using the S1 Pro+ for karaoke, I think it’s a great option that you could take from house to house with very little setup. For instruments like electric guitars through a modeler or FX processor, it can also deliver a lot of body for such a small speaker, and I appreciate that ToneMatch makes it easy to get good tone through my system.CONCLUSION:When I got the S1 Pro+ in my hands, I had no idea how feature rich it actually was until I started delving into the manual. There’s really a lot of capability here for a portable PA speaker, and it ended up fitting multiple of my use-cases really well. Going forward, I intend to use The S1 Pro+ for karaoke night with friends, for jams at our weekend volleyball, for bumping tunes at house parties, and for rocking out through my guitar amp sim wirelessly. There are still numerous use-cases I’ve still not covered, but given my experience with it thus far, I think the S1 Pro+ is a great option for performers who are looking for portability, wireless convenience and good sound.

A talented friend of mine, who happens to perform live music in our local town, brought along a microphone and the necessary cables. I took the opportunity to ask her opinion on the unit, and she was thoroughly impressed. The build quality of the Bose S1 Pro+ is truly outstanding, as is customary with Bose products. It exhibits a robust construction with no loose or rattling components, while the addition of a sturdy grab handle makes it effortlessly portable. When searching for a powerful speaker, sound quality becomes the ultimate deciding factor for most people, including myself. It must deliver sufficient volume to fill large open spaces, such as backyards, yet prioritize clarity in vocals, well-defined mid-ranges, and satisfying bass. In this regard, the Bose S1 Pro+ excels. In my personal experience, it tends to emphasize the highs and mids more than the bass, but the bass response is perfectly suited for 90% of songs. For those seeking an enhanced bass experience, integrating a subwoofer with this speaker would be advisable. Nevertheless, for the vast majority of individuals, I firmly believe that this speaker will leave you absolutely awestruck. In conclusion, the Bose S1 Pro+ is an exceptional speaker that combines impressive power, versatile functionality, and superior sound quality. Its prosumer-focused connectivity options make it ideal for both casual users and professionals alike. The build quality is top-notch, ensuring durability and ease of transport. While the emphasis leans towards highs and mids, the speaker still delivers satisfying bass for most music genres. Whether you're hosting a karaoke night or looking to fill a large open space with immersive sound, the Bose S1 Pro+ is sure to impress. With its ability to deliver clear vocals, present mid ranges, and a well-balanced sound signature, this speaker has the potential to exceed your expectations. For those seeking a remarkable audio experience, the Bose S1 Pro+ is an excellent choice that will undoubtedly leave you amazed.

As a part time musician who primarily gigs solo with an acoustic guitar, mic, and pedal board it has truly elevated my performances purely through customizable sound as I'm able to get out of this PA system. I also on occasion will add trumpet to my set and it's amazing the clarity I get with this PA system. I don't think I'll be able to use any other system since it's also portable and has up to 11 hours of battery life.Karaoke: Aside from the part time gigs, my family and I love to go Karaoke bars on the weekends. This PA system changes up that whole plan and allows us to stay home and rock out! It's very easy to connect 2 microphones for duos or rock out solo. The Bluetooth connection is also solid but I connect it straight to a laptop as an interface so I can also stream the lyrics on the TV or Projector.Recording: This PA system allows recording or live streaming to a computer via USB C which I didn't fully try out but I was able to record a quick minute with superb results. And to all my DJ friends out there, you also have the capability to pair this with the Bose Sub1 or Sub2 Bass Module and carry the party through the night.Overall, the Bose S1+ Pro is intended for use by musicians and karaoke enthusiasts alike and it delivers superb quality sound, various customization, a functioning useful companion app, hours of battery life, and numerous connectivity options to fully utilize your artistic arsenal of gadgets.

Just right upgrade for S1 Pro

I do public speaking mostly and ability to quickly set up is essential. Power may not be available or extension cords and microphone wires create tripping hazard. S1 Pro Plus is the answer! It's a much appreciated upgrade of the S1 Pro that added built in wireless capability. No longer I need to find a wireless mic kit, everything is included with S1 Pro Plus. Internal battery lasts up to 11 hours (and takes about 4 hours to fully charge) and wireless line/microphone and instrument transmitters eliminate signal cables. Mic/Line transmitter does not seem to introduce any noticeable delay nor feedback, I had no problem during a couple events I had to do. Mic/Line transmitter does not seem to introduce any noticeable delay nor feedback, I had no problem during a couple events I had to do. Along with wireless capability - speaker is well equipped with 3 input ports (2xXLR/TRS and 1xTRS / standard 3.5mm jack) one XLR output (that can be used to daisy chain the next speaker) and Bluetooth connectivity. There is a bons USB-C port to transmit audio to a connected computer (for live streaming on Zoom for example) and USB-A port to charge your electronics! Each input channel is individually controlled by a combination push/turn knob and a little screen. Volume, Treble, Bass and Tone match (line, mic, instrument) are individually adjustable. Wireless transmitters are conveniently stored inside the special "bays" inside of the speaker where they also charge and update firmware when needed. Speaker firmware can be updated via USB-C connection as well.Overall it's a wonderfully equipped speaker which includes all you need for outdoor performance - would it be speaking or playing instruments. You would obviously need to bring your own microphone, instrument and pole mount (if desired). Speaker can be placed on the ground in either standing upright, tilted back or on the side position, it would automatically detect it and use appropriate twitter (there are 3 twitters in the array and one midrange driver) for the best sound.Few things I've noticed that might be improved:- Wireless Transmitter Bay covers are easy to loose, it's ok if you always keep your transmitters in the bay, but if you are not - those covers can be easily misplaced- Old S1 Pro had all the physical controls and knobs, one glance at the speaker allowed me to see there Reverb, Tone, Treble and Bass were, now I have to rely on the little screen menu.- Sometimes when reaching for the volume adjustment knob I inadvertently push it and end up on the Treble adjustment instead.

Just what I need for Karaoke and even more

I’ve been meaning to get an audio product for the living room that is versatile enough to play karaoke and portable enough so I can move it to different rooms, listening to music from any device, even using it for computer gaming and still boast audio quality that is clear and has enough presence to fill the room. This is it.I was pretty excited knowing that the previous generation of the speaker is the favorite for some karaoke fans/ content makers in the most popular video app. The Bose is actually surprisingly compact for what it can do, considering that this is a stand-alone speaker capable of producing loud volume for the size, comes with built-in simple mixer and all the connectivity options you would need for home karaoke use. With onboard reverb, bass and ... MoreI’ve been meaning to get an audio product for the living room that is versatile enough to play karaoke and portable enough so I can move it to different rooms, listening to music from any device, even using it for computer gaming and still boast audio quality that is clear and has enough presence to fill the room. With onboard reverb, bass and treble adjustments, the Bose is meant for karaoke. This Bose speaker is a perfect match for my two-microphone karaoke machine. I got a karaoke machine from years ago that features auto-tune/ pitch correction and vocal change. My old karaoke machine comes with a speaker that sounds honestly pretty bad so the difference between that and the Bose speaker is pretty much night and day. All the mixing is done in the mixer unit of the karaoke machine and the Bose speaker connects to the machine through line in cable. I can also connect a microphone directly to the Bose speaker with appropriate adapter, however, I will be losing out the auto tune and vocal change features that my old karaoke machine provides. The Bose speaker provides direct microphone connection for up to 2 mics. The Bose has three audio channels and you can use your mobile phone to connect to the speaker through Bluetooth and a line-in audio source to channel 3, say a mixer or instrument, and play the audio from both sources all at the same time. This feature is maybe more useful for musicians who want to play a variety of accompaniments for their music. You can actually output the audio from the speaker to the computer for digital recording and audio processing (livestreaming), which is useful if you're into making music contents on social media. The Bose gives you presets equalizer that you can adjust from channel 3 settings, which is good to tweak the audio profile to your liking. You can also tweak audio performance from the Bose music app. If this is all sounds too complicated to setup, the Bose website provides a video tutorial on how to setup the speaker. The manual is also clear enough in detailing the functions of the speaker and how to make use of them.If you don’t have a stand-alone karaoke machine, the simplest setup for karaoke would be a microphone (preferably a singing/ professional grade mic with or without the optional Bose wireless microphone adapter) and a phone/ tablet with popular video apps. Popular music streaming apps also provide karaoke tracks. Just connect the phone/ tablet through Bluetooth then connect the microphone and you’re good to go to start enjoying clear and loud audio you would expect from a Bose product. Since you can manipulate the reverb directly from the speaker, your vocal will sound better, not flat like typical loud speaker. Here's what I really like about the Bose: the Bose has built-in battery and multiple connectivity options so I can enjoy karaoke virtually anywhere when such noise level is permitted. You can easily move the Bose anywhere from living room to bed room and even outdoors. You can connect your phone to the speaker through Bluetooth and enjoy audio playback. It’s a great entertainment machine for community gathering/ picnic in the park. For indoor home use, it may get a bit too loud even if you live in a medium size house but it should still be ok and you can always adjust the volume easily. For those who want much more bass presence, you can purchase the optional Bose’s powered sub-woofer.Since the speaker has Bluetooth and line in connectivity, you can connect the speaker to any device including computer for playing games. Although the speaker has USB-A, it is used for charging and the USB-C is used for live streaming and firmware updates, hence USB playback is not supported. It would be great if Bose would allow USB playback somehow through firmware update, if this is at all possible. As it stands, this product is already 5 stars.

Noteworthy upgrades to an incredible speaker line

Once you plug in the speaker, download the app, log in or create your Bose account and sync the speaker to your account you’ll be rocking out in no time. You can scan the QR code to view the instruction manual which explains all the features which, for my typical use, are overkill. However, I’m sure they come in handy for much more experienced singers, artists and musicians. The Bose Music app is simple to use and pretty self-explanatory as well. You can sync most popular music streaming services through the app to cast directly to the speaker if you are planning on using it for a Bluetooth speaker.Like its predecessor, one of the best parts of this speaker is that you can simultaneously plug in two sources, like a guitar, keyboard and/or microphone and stream from another source to this one speaker at the same time. The rear of the speaker has a wide variety of features including two channel inputs, a mono line input, and auxiliary stereo line input, convenient USB-A and USB-C ports, a line out for use with a XLR cable to connect to another system and wireless transmitter charging ports for those talented musicians and karaoke aficionados.Perhaps my favorite upgrade to the S1+ Pro is that it’s truly portable with a built-in battery that can last hours before it needs to be plugged in. Think about tossing it into your vehicle before a camping trip and not having to worry about being confined near a pesky outlet. Or in a setting where an outlet is too far away and you don’t want to run an extension cord. This was available on the previous model however it was a separate accessory with an additional cost.Another welcome upgrade on the S1+ Pro are the digital displays for each of the inputs. These can display the volume level, EQ adjustments as well as being able to go in and toggle other settings without having to rely solely on your smart phone/tablet app. With this new model, Bose is currently using their Bose Music app, not Bose Connect, to manage the new S1+ Pro features which unfortunately means I am not able to sync the S1+ Pro to my S1 Pro for dual casting party mode that is now offered.Audio enthusiasts, like me, are amazed by how loud and crisp the sound the S1 produces considering its size and portability. It is exactly what you would expect from Bose; crystal clear highs, deep lows and lots of power in a well-made product that will hold up for years and compete against other high-end sound companies. I think you would literally have to have the S1+ Pro in a large indoor/outdoor setting with lots of people to even consider turning this beast of a speaker all the way up; I have barely turned it up halfway and it’s overwhelmingly loud even in large outdoor spaces like I have my currently positioned.Overall, Bose did an amazing job cramming in all the upgrades in comparison to its predecessor including the built in battery while also not increasing the cost to the buyers which is always welcome in an economy plagued by inflation and rising costs on everything else. I would recommend this speaker to not only singers and musicians but also just to consider for anyone looking for a Bluetooth speaker that will just about blow your eardrums out.

My entire family is musical and enjoys singing together and performing for others. The Bose S1 Pro+ PA is a fantastically flexible audio system for us that works as well for home studio sessions as it does getting out in public. For our home and small venue purposes it’s the perfect blend of performance and portability. One feature is that it’s supposed to automatically tailor the sound to be optimal for its orientation, and I don’t doubt that it does, though my experience is that it almost always sounded best and more full when oriented in tower mode with the handle up rather than on its side. For the OCD inclined, the Bose logo can be easily turned and “locked-in” to match your chosen orientation. The inputs are basic, common, and flexible, with two combination XLR + ¼” inputs, and then a third input that combines both Bluetooth and a 3.5mm port, so technically 4 inputs with 3 individual LED digital volume controls. It’s good to know and confirm that the combo input handles both Bluetooth and 3.5mm at the same time, it’s not limited to one or the other, just keep in mind that they share a volume knob so if you need to blend those particular sources you’ll need to do the fine-tuning on the devices themselves, with the knob on the back of the Bose S1 Pro+ serving as a common master for them. This combined channel is especially useful for background music, karaoke, etc.Being able to run on battery is a nice feature which makes it stand out from other portable sound/PA systems I’ve personally used before which continued to need outlet power. This can be great for performance scenarios at more remote spots that lack easily accessible power, in our case it was perfect for an outdoor get-together with family and friends for music, games, and making announcements that could be easily heard by everyone. When not mobile, the S1 Pro+ system makes for a tidy, room filling, home studio monitor for a keyboard, mic, and computer audio/video workstation setup that I’m happy enough with that it’s become more-or-less my new permanent studio speaker.
