The swivel head glides across the contours of the face amazingly well, leaving not part missed or leaving you having to go over it many times causing shaver burn. You have the option to use this shaver dry, or with shaving foam, so if you have particularly sensitive skin, using shaving foam/cream/oil will do just fine with this shaver. The precision trimmer that flips up from the back is great too, to tidy up sideburns and edges. When you are finished with shaving you sit the shaver upside down in the cleaning station. its not the quietest cleaning station, but it does the job perfectly, cleaning the blades and shaver head ready for its next use. Keeping the shaver clean is so important to prolong its life and lubricate the blades, so they stay sharp. 1 full charge gives you 60 minutes of use, and because it uses a lithium-ion battery, there is a 5 minute quick charge; so this is super convenient if you forget to charge your shaver. The shaver comes with a cleaning solution cartridge so you'll have to buy refills for this...it should last around 4-6 months. There is a clever display on the station to ket you know its cycle etc.So all-in-all this shaver is superior to any I have used in the past; it has the highest of quality built in, and the cleaning station will enable the shaver to last for years to come. Although this shaver is on the pricey side, it is worth every penny knowing that it will last a long time, and gives the best shave I have ever experienced from an electric shaver.

I’ve been a long-time user of the Braun Shaver. The model I’ve been using is the Series 5 (590cc) when its 1st came out many, many years ago. It has held up over time. Believe it are not, I only had to change the razor head ONCE since owning this shaver. I still can get a close, clean shave from this thing, but the battery is no longer holding a good charge so it time for an upgrade. This new Series 8 is exactly like my old setup with subtle differences. The cleaning station that came with the shaver is a different style, but it uses the same cleaning cartridges which was perfect. You slide the cartridge in thru the front for the old cleaning station, whereas the new cleaning station you slide the cartridge in from the back. Not sure the benefit is for this ... I usually buy the cleaning cartridges in bulk, to save money, and still had 2 lefts. I’m glad I’m still able to use them with the new setup. I love the convenience of being able to just drop my shaver in station where it can simultaneously clean and charge the shaver. The new shaver itself is almost like my current razor with a few upgrades. The front has a digit screen that not only display the battery bar (like the old razor) but it also displays other icons. One icon is the Travel Lock icon where you can lock your shaver from accidentally turn ON while it packed in your luggage. Another icon is the Razor icon where it reminds you that t time to replace the shaver head. The new shaver is slightly bigger and heavier, but personally it must easier to hold. Just like my old razor, it has the trimmer blade, that slide up from the back, to help give you a clean trim line. The shaver head pivot while you shave and can be locked to get you that prefect shaving angle to get to those stubborn baby hair.

I got this shaver to replace my razor. I have very sensitive skin so it’s hard for me to get a close shave without ingrown hairs or irritated red bumps after shaving; no matter what shaving gel I use. This shave has been great for me! I feels great in the hand, it’s very quiet, the charging/cleaning stand is amazing. It allows you to clean the shaver thoroughly and effortlessly, all while charging the shaver. The pop out trimmer is also a great feature for trimming up those hair lines. Overall I’m very impressed with the shaver. No irritation and very simple and ergonomic to use. The only bad part for me is I have to go over certain sections of where I want shaved multiple times to get all the hairs trimmed. It’s a small price to pay for having no bumps or irritation!

I’ve used Braun shavers for 25 years and have always been impressed with their quality and attention-to-detail. Brauns have always given me the best shave, the best shaving experience, and by far, the longest shaver life. Most importantly, only Brauns have enough grunt to get through my thick beard every day. The Series 8 is no exception. I bought it to replace my old Braun 5775, which has faithfully sawed its way through my stubble for well over 10 years using the original blade block and foil. (I’m not recommending that.) The old shaver still works well, but the battery is tired, and the head is beyond dull. The Series 8 is no exception. I bought it to replace my old Braun 5775, which has faithfully sawed its way through my stubble for well over 10 years using the original blade block and foil. (I’m not recommending that.) The old shaver still works well, but the battery is tired, and the head is beyond dull. Its obstinate grit convinced me to invest in the expensive Series 8 this time around. I'm glad I did. I generally hate shaving. It is uncomfortable, takes forever to grind through my especially thick chin and mustache hair, and requires careful feathering of the shaver to keep from overwhelming the motor. When finished, I must still conduct a careful inspection, using a lot of light, making stupid faces, craning my neck to find any long hairs that got missed. I try to skip this daily chore, but that only makes matters worse the next day.I girded my loins for this struggle with the Series 8 and was elated when it simply glided through my beard without issue. It left almost no long hairs and even my chin and mustache were subdued with ease. There wasn't that uncomfortable feeling of dragging sandpaper across my face; no pulling and pinching my skin to get those dratted long hairs to stand up; no dragging the shaver across the same spot in 15 different directions to get that one stubborn hair. I felt like I was in one of those shaver commercials where the guy gets a great shave with a single swipe. The whole business was finished in record time, and was… dare I say it, almost enjoyable! I’m not sure what black magic is going on here, whether it’s the sharp blade block or the sonic technology, but I’m getting a wonderful shave. After 4 days, the effort level has increased a bit, so we’ll see how it goes as I approach the head replacement date. Still, that first shave was unlike any I’ve experienced before. I highly recommend this shaver!I notice that the instruction booklet shows how to dismantle the shaver and replace the battery. Braun has not done that before, mostly because their batteries last for 10+ years. By that time, most people are ready for a change. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see Braun acknowledge the tinkerers out there who want to replace a worn battery in an otherwise good shaver and push past that 10+ year mark. In a world where so many others are engineering products to be non-serviceable and to break early, this is a refreshing change. The cleaning/charging dock is a lovely feature. When Braun first offered a cleaning tank, I was skeptical. What a gimmick! That was 10 years ago, and guys still seem to think it’s worth buying, so who am I to argue? My assessment after 4 days of use: I love the cleaning feature! That daily sprinkling of shaver dust across the countertop was a frustration I’d learned to accept. With this shaver, however, there is no dust! Hooray! The cleaning dock works by pumping Braun’s cleaning/lubricating fluid across the shaver head, and then cycling the shaver on and off to scrub away the dust. It finishes up with a gentle blow-dry cycle. And it really works. If you shine your flashlight down into the tank, you can see the mess being washed away. The shaver is clean each morning with no dusty residue to blow around the bathroom. That said, the cleaning dock needs improvement. First, the cleaning cycle is loud. Not painful, but enough to make you leave the bathroom. Loud enough to wake the wife. Second, it’s big and bulky. You want to hide it in the cabinet, except that it needs to stay plugged in and is also full of fluid which could leak. (Thankfully, Braun sealed the unit well enough that you can shake it around and tip it a good ways over before it actually dribbles out.) Even so, this isn’t another thing on my small counter. It’s the only thing.Third, lemon is the only fragrance option. As a note to Braun, how have you gone so long without offering another fragrance? I’m not doing dishes here. I’m shaving. Give me a fragrance appropriate to the activity. For example, Bay Rum? Better yet, ask your marketing department to work out licensing agreements with men’s after-shave makers. Just please, please, PLEASE include non-toxic and/or fragrance-free options for chemically-sensitive individuals like me. Natural essential oils like Pine, Cedar or Sandalwood are great choices. As a final gripe, the language-agnostic pictogram instructions are baffling. Fortunately, the QR code on the front of the booklet links into Braun’s website where instructions in English are available. All griping aside, this is a great shaver and I’m more than happy with my purchase. Thank you, Braun!

The build quality is top notch, comfortable to hold, with a solid heft that tells me it isn’t constructed of cheap materials. It came well packaged and in perfect condition. There is a power cord that attaches to the SmartCare Center, but can also be used to power the Shaver directly, if you mean to take it on the road. Too, it comes with a carrying case, and instructions on how to lock the shaver so it won’t turn on in transit. The shaver is simple and intuitive to use, and gentle on the skin…my son was tentative at first (this was truly his first time to shave himself), but after a few strokes, he could feel he was safe to really get into the nooks and crannies, particularly around the nose. He also uses the pop up trimmer to straighten his sideburns, and it works well too. After a shave you return the device to the SmartCare Center to charge and clean, if you think it needs it. You simply press a button on the front and it will wash the shaver for you. It does take a bit longer than I expected, but that isn’t so much a matter of time, but rather how much of the cleaning solution it is using. Too, I’m not sure how often the reservoir will have to be replaced, though it seems to be lasting just fine for now.I certainly appreciate not having to clean it manually, as my track record isn’t admirable in that regard. All in all, I feel like my son’s first shaving experience is a little like giving a luxury car to a 16 year old…he’ll never really know how good he has it. This Braun Electric Shaver does a great job, holds a charge, and takes care of itself, what’s not too love? Well two things, I suppose. One is that the footprint of this isn’t tiny. So if your bathroom counter isn’t large, the SmartCare Center might just take up too much real estate. And the other thing I didn’t love was that the instructions are primarily in pictures, and I would’ve preferred more written guidance. But both of those are minor quibbles, I really am overjoyed with what Braun has done with this, and I’m happy for my son that his shaving experience will be far more pleasant than my own. Maybe had I started with this, I wouldn’t be a beard man…hmm, really makes me think.
I purchase this for my partner's Christmas gift. Overall, I love this shaver. The good things:The shaver look great in the design and color. It makes me feel like of a high quality product when I hold it in my hand. It has sleek design and functional. The package design is very eye-catching and makes people like to buy it.The Not good:The Smart Care Centre however is not made with high quality of plastic. It does hold the shaver in place when I insert the shaver in for charging/care process. I wish either the smart centre has magnet charger or the holder can be better designed so that the shaver can stay firmly. If you insert the shaver to the centre and won't move it, it will be OK for the charging. However if you just move it even a little, the shaver will ... I'm new to Braun and their Series 8 8417s Electric Shaver for Men is a very solid product, one that I'm quite happy with. It charges quickly, has a very nice design and works very efficiently. I have never gotten such a smooth, razor-quality shave from any other electric razor I've ever owned. However it does have a few flaws worth mentioning:The biggest issue for me is the little retractable guard in the back of the razor that's supposed to provide a straight, more precise shave line. Yeah, I just couldn't get that to work effectively at all, it's flimsy and imprecise. I also had issue with the razor's locking function - normally, the razor head automatically rotates and moves to the curves of your face which works great, but there is a locking function if need ... MoreI'm new to Braun and their Series 8 8417s Electric Shaver for Men is a very solid product, one that I'm quite happy with. It charges quickly, has a very nice design and works very efficiently. Yeah, I just couldn't get that to work effectively at all, it's flimsy and imprecise. I also had issue with the razor's locking function - normally, the razor head automatically rotates and moves to the curves of your face which works great, but there is a locking function if need be, and it's pretty mediocre. The blades DO lock into place but can be easily pushed into different locking positions which can be annoying. Those are the razor's major downsides, but I had a few other quirks I wanted to mention. The instructions are almost entirely image-based which is a modern trend that I simply do not care for, obviously with a product like this it's fairly intuitive but the instructions were pretty confusing for me. I also do feel that the button to pop out the blades feels a tiny bit flimsy but that one might just be the fact that I'm not used to it yet.Okay, those are all my problems, but overall the razor is still very, very good and I would still recommend it, just in terms of power, form-factor and convenience. I'm extremely happy with this product and it's miles better than any other electric razor I've ever used.
This shaver is truly awesome. It's perfect for my sensitive skin and has yet to cause any irritation. It provides a really close shave with minimal effort and is comfortable to hold. It's not too bulky and its light weight allows me to perform a thorough shave without my hand getting tired. Set up was pretty straightforward and easy. However, the instruction booklet that was included isn't very helpful, as it's just a bunch of pictures and diagrams. If you are not familiar with electric shavers and don't know what you are doing or looking for, the provided instructions can cause frustration. This is the only thing I would improve upon. The self cleaning function is great and when finished, leaves the shaver looking new again. The battery life seems to be great so ... MoreThis shaver is truly awesome. The battery life seems to be great so far, so using this razor when traveling and leaving the charging base at home, shouldn't be an issue. The provided travel case is a nice bonus to keep the shaver secure and clean. This is my go to shaver for the immediate future. I really can't see anything beating it. Highly Recommended!
Having already tried a Series 3 shaver last year I was excited to get the opportunity to use and review one of their “premium” shavers in the range.Like many other models this shaver has 3 cutting surfaces: two foil shaving heads (“Optifoil”), which seem identical to the SensoFoil on their other models, along with a cutting blade for longer hairs sandwiched between them. This does have limited use as you cannot target longer hairs as the foil heads get in the way. It does have a separate trimmer head that is easy to switch to on the back of the unit, which is good for neat sideburns, or anyone wanting contouringThe shaver feels slightly heavier than the current model, but is still comfortable nonetheless It has a head that swivels 40 degrees which helps to keep ... I did not encounter any redness after use either, which had been an issue in the past. The “blurb” says it uses Sonic Technology to make 10K sonic vibrations a minute to ensure the cutting blades hit each hair, and apparently there is AutoSense Technology to make effective use on dense beards, though I cannot vouch for this aspect as I like to keep clean-shaven. Like any shaver I have used it cannot clear every single hair on a single pass, but it did a much better job at it overall! This model comes with a 5-in-1 SmartCare Centre, which claims to keep your shaver like new, as it cleans hygienically, whilst it lubricates the moving parts, and charges the shaver and dries actively. The idea being that once you have shaved you pop the shaver back into the SmartCare to keep it clean etc. However, I have always kept my shaver on the bathroom windowsill, which obviously doesn’t have any electrical sockets for the SmartCare system, so have had to resort to putting everything in the bedroom close to a socket when I need to charge it.It also comes with 170ml shaver cleaning detergent (I have found that you can get 1 litre of this for about £14 when it runs out, which is a cheaper alternative to getting the cartridges). I do, however, prefer to rinse the shaver under the tap (it is naturally 100% waterproof) to remove the shaving gel and giving a little shave before putting into the SmartCare centreThe Battery (Lithium Ion) has an hours use, and there is also a handy 5-minute quick charge option. The LED displays the battery level, though if you always placed it back into the SmartCare Centre after every use you wouldn’t need this.Overall I found it a very good, quality product with excellent results and would recommend it if it suits your budget.
I've been using a series 7 shaver and was really excited to try out this series 8 and believe me it does not disappoint, like it's predecessor it is a straight forward setup right out of the box, no messing around, just pop the base, insert the cleaning fluid and plug it in to charge... simple. My first impressions were that this has impressive and informative packaging, not over the top either everything is fairly tightly packed in.Inside as expected was a beautifully styled shaver with with the added bonus of the convenient zip up carry case for travelling purposes. The shaver itself is lightweight and feels nice, solid and sturdy in your hand, I want to use the word ergonomic grip here because I feel like it may be but don't quote me on that, it is however ... The buttons are self explanatory... on, off, stop and go and the rotational foil shaver part moves and adjusts nicely across the curves of your face and there is a switch that allows for stiffer and looser blade movement. The razor cuts great and glides across the skin with ease, I have quite fine facial hair so I was a little worried that the foils wouldn't catch it the way they do course stubble but I was pretty impressed with how well it cut, a couple of passes and the hair was gone, leaving a smooth close finish and with ZERO razor burn or discomfort (which I've said previously about the series 7, but trust me this razor is WAAAAY better than the 7 and the 7 impressed me a lot, so you can take from that comment just how good this series 8 is!). A very VERY nice shave indeed, my skin is left soft and smooth afterward so much so that my wife has taken to stroking my cheeks after I use it as it feels lovely. No trouble with tidying up sideburns or edges either as a quick flick of a switch pops out the precision trimmer attachment that is on the back and that will sort the pesky bits right out for you.The shaver slots gently and rests back into the cleaning station and with a touch of a button the automated cleaning process charges up your shaver whilst simultaneously blasting it with an alcohol based sterilising solution so you have peace of mind that it's nice and clean and hygienic every time you use it, it also has a light feature that shows when the cleaning cartridge needs replacing, these are readily available in the usual go to places and not expensive to replace either. The shaver also has a digital battery monitor on the front that lets you know when it needs charging, I however don't really use that as I always place it back into the cleaning station, because of this I can't comment much on battery life either, but the monitor doesn't move at all when I use it so I imagine it's good for a good few shaves before requiring a power up. The monitor is still a handy feature thats worth mentioning though for those that don't have the station. I've just about covered everything I believe.. so to summarise... I would say that if you are looking for a low maintenance, hygienic, great quality and nice looking shaver then I would definitely recommend this model as a go to product because the series 7 is an excellent shaver and it knocks others out of the running, but this series 8 is a great bit of kit that shines above it's predecessor, it's worth buying even if you have an older model because it's just all round better and as you would expect from a reknowned brand like Braun this is a high end, quality product that will tick ALL of the boxes and some, if you are considering buying a series 8... grab one now, they are EXCELLENT!.
