As a dark-haired, 'hairy' person I spent years shaving my legs and armpits or spending a lot of money on waxing. I bought an epilator which worked well on my legs but which I found way too painful to use on my armpits. It also won't 'flash' if there's no contact so you know if you're actually getting treated by it.

There is no off button btw (so you must just plug it out when done)I got through one leg quite well (on the highest setting as I’m a pale Irish girl)There is a little sting on certain areas, but no where near as painful as you would experience in a clinic! I also was very self conscious of the hair on my bikini line and upper inner thighs, and growth here has now basically stopped and stays smooth, no more unsightly uncomfortable razor burn/bumps or regrowth. I am very pale, like second, maybe third shade of foundation from the very lightest, but I have very dark hair, and the hair on my legs grows quick. Like, shave in the morning and have stubble by night time kind of quick. In summer I would shave the top half of my leg, above the knee, one day, and below my knee the next day, and just alternate. Every day. I had to shave my armpits every other day. I had to shave my lip and two spots on my chin every other day. I was going through a razor every two weeks and they weren’t cheap. When using this device, you shave the area you’re going to treat, then use the device, so you really don’t know what spots you’re missing. Also, the longer you use it, the slower the zaps get. After doing about half of my calf, the zaps get slower. I would say I spend about 10 minutes each time I use it. I follow the same pattern I did when I shaved: shave above the knee and use the device one day, then do below the knee and my armpits the next day. I would then wait a couple days and repeat the process. After about 4 months I could go a week without having to shave my calves. I went from using it twice weekly, to once weekly, to once every 10 days or so. It took about 8 weeks of consistent use to stop shaving my armpits three times a week. Now, I have to do an armpit touch up, cleaning up the random hairs that I missed, maybe once every 10 days, if that. After 12 months I’m to a point where I can go two weeks without shaving my calves in shorts weather. I’m still working on my upper legs, specifically the inside of my thighs. That is some stubborn hair, but I’m down to shaving that about every 10 days. My upper lip and chin are a completely different story. I used to have to shave my upper lip and two spots on my chin every two days. Now I can go three days, sometimes four if I’m lucky. I wonder if it’s because that hair used to be waxed. I’ve never waxed my legs or armpits, but I did wax my lip, and a rogue esthetician saw some hairs on my chin one time and threw wax on them before I even knew what was happening. That hair started growing in faster and darker and was the bane of my existence for about 10 years. I’m REALLY hoping that the IPL will eventually start working on those areas better, but it’s been a year of consistent use on those areas, so I’m not holding out much hope.All in all, if you’ve got the money, this is a good little device. I don't have before and after pictures, I've never put that much stock in them, they're too easy to fake. I can’t speak to how well it will work on lighter hair, but if you’re patient and consistent, you’ll have success on darker hair, just know it’s likely going to take longer than the four weeks they say it will take for “lasting hair reduction”. That, and the lack of protective eyewear, is the reason for only three stars.

No miracles yet, but it does say weekly treatments might be needed for up to 12 weeks and I'm not there yet.Overall the thing is very easy to use straight out of the box (although definitely DO read allll the instructions before you start). Mine makes a bit of a worrying loud whirring noise when I first fire it up and not sure if this is normal but it settles down within about 5 seconds.I was advised before buying that the precision head isn't really necessary and you can use the big one on the face, armpits etc. However I personally am so pleased I paid extra for the model including the precision head as I actually find the big head won't trigger on my shins - the light wont flash unless you've got contact across the whole head and my shins must be quite nobbly!Treatment of both lower legs, armpits and bikini line takes me about 15 minutes, so a very easy thing to fit into your routine.I am definitely pleased I bought this. I just can't quite report yet whether it works as well as it say it does.

I have used this product once a week for four weeks and have already noticed a significant difference on the treated areas. I had previously gotten professional laser hair removal on my underarms and Brazilian area, while it definitely improved things the hair was only 75% removed and I was getting routine touch ups once every few months. The Braun device has been significantly more effective and the removal level is close to 90-95% now. I did have a head start with the clinical treatments, but this device has been more effective than the professional touch ups I was getting.
