Two months later I called because my warrantee was almost up. They agreed to let me mail it in for repair. They returned the machine but never addressed the decalcifier program issue. They sent standard instructions "to clean it frequently" to keep it running. They refused to acknowledge that the machine was defective and basically told me I was taking good care of it as it was. My issue is it didn't work as it was made to work and they should uphold their warrantee.

The only critique I might add is that despite experimenting with tamping pressure and grind coarseness the portafilter tends to flow unevenly between the two spouts, which makes filling two single shot cups equally unviable. I'm not convinced that this is a design problem since I am still new to this and there are plenty of variables.Overall this entry-level machine has great value and I am very happy with my purchase.

It’s very awkward and inconvenient, and not easy for a smaller person. We bought this on Black Friday (although it was not on sale), so I wonder if that maybe affected the machine quality? I’ve heard of inferior products being stocked before Black Friday, but I didn’t think a company like Breville would stoop to that. Either way, I’m disappointed in the Bambino’s usability and cheap plastic components. The plastic tamper was also very cheap and made it tough to exert much pressure.

Fantastic machine when everything is working
28 December 2023

I bought this almost a year ago and was extremely pleased with the quality of the coffee and automatically steamed milk. At that time, I would have enthusiastically rated the Bambino Plus 5 stars. Unfortunately, after about six months the automatically steamed milk began overflowing from the steam cup most of the time. After doing an internet search, I found that several others were having the same problem. I tried the suggestions I found on the internet but none resolved the problem. I was eventually able to reach technical support and after a video session with the tech, it was determined that machine needed to be repaired at the factory. After doing an internet search, I found that several others were having the same problem. I tried the suggestions I found on the internet but none resolved the problem. I was eventually able to reach technical support and after a video session with the tech, it was determined that machine needed to be repaired at the factory. I have used the machine several times since it was returned. I am hopeful that the automatic stream function will continue to work as some people on the internet reported that their machines, including replacements continue to overflow. Mine has overflowed one time since but the last five times it worked fine.Shortly after I bought the machine, when I was still learning how to use it, the machine turned off and the LED buttons began a flashing pattern. I couldn't find a page or chart in the manual that explained the errors indicated by the patterns of flashing lights. I searched the internet and was able to find a number of videos posted by Breville and individuals users on using and maintaining the machine. I found my answer, the steam wand was plugged. When I went back to manual I found a section on steam wand blocked and it described the flashing button pattern. My suggestion to Breville, put a chart in the manual that describes all of the flashing button patterns: lower steam wand alert, time for cleaning cycle, time for descaling, block steam wand and any others I have not yet encountered.Everything considered, I had a perfect cup cappuccino this morning and I would probably by the Bambino plus again. I would recommend it but with the understanding that there will be issues.

Great when it works

I love this machine when it works. Trouble is, I'm on my 3rd machine in 3 yrs and this one is broken now. All 3 machines had something go wrong with the steam wand. All different issues. The second machine (replacement for the first) came with something wrong with the wand. The current machine was the second replacement. It came with a defective cleaning cycle where you can't override it so when the lights start flashing telling you that it needs a cleaning cycle, the machine will not work until you do the cleaning cycle. Even if you are right in the middle of making a coffee. Also, the vast majority of time it will not let you do a descaling, even though the lights are flashing telling you it needs to be done. Even if you are right in the middle of making a coffee. Also, the vast majority of time it will not let you do a descaling, even though the lights are flashing telling you it needs to be done. Fortunately, you can override this one and still use the machine. After about 99 tries, it will do the descale. The first machine was 2 yrs old when a small tubular part fall out of the steam wand. This part is what it needs to build pressure so it wouldn't work without it. I sent it in for repairs and it came back several weeks later EXACTLY the same! They had done NOTHING to repair it even though they said it was repaired. They sent a replacement machine that didn't work properly and needed to be replaced right away. I'm on the second replacement which never worked correctly but since it would pull coffee and the steam wand worked, I chose to deal with the defective cleaning cycles. Now, after less than a year, the steam wand has stopped working. The pump quits after a few seconds and there is no heat. When trying to do it manually there is way too much heat and too much pressure and throws the hot milk all over outside the pitcher.I would love to have a properly working machine but I can't see shelling out $500 for a machine that is so likely to break so soon. It makes me very sad because of how well it works when it works.

Well, soon I was buying a burr grinder (I have and love the breville smart grinder pro) and freshly roasted beans from a local coffee shop. Then I was buying all the accessories. The accessories I use every time I pull a shot are a scale (buy one that will fit on your drip tray and measures grams and seconds).A WDT tool (this is to declump your freshly ground coffee beans). A dosing funnel (this keeps the grounds in the portafilter while you dose and use the WDT). A calibrated tamper (this will ensure an even consistent tamp). A screen to sit on top of your puck (this keeps the water screen clean). Then I bought some double wall espresso shot glasses and coffee mugs. After 4 weeks of pulling espresso shots I can finally tell the difference between bitter and sour. I can dial in my beans quickly. It took a minute to understand that it's not just grind size, but also dose, that affects how our shots pull. I have to mention that the automatic milk steamer is amazing! It 3 adjustable milk temperatures and 3 levels of texture. All in all, this is an amazing little machine that makes wonderful tasting espresso.

Nice looking/ compact machine. Tasty espresso, but have concerns on the quality.

There are many things l like about the Breville Bambino Plus, makes reasonable coffee, easy use, compact, works well with the Stand-Alone Breville Smart Coffee Grinder. I also like the reminder to descale after 200 shots and perform other maintenance tasks, however I’m not sure how valuable it is as it’s unclear if Breville factor in their recommendation of drawing a pre-warn up/post clean up shot per session. Feels moot anyways since the first Breville Bamboo Plus machine we purchased just over two years ago quit reminding me after about 18 months, which should have been a sign of things to come!Whilst I typically make 3 double shots in the same timeframe per day for my household, we are not there often. So in reality, even though I had the first machine just over 2 years, I basically got about one year’s worth of use before it started leaking, even after the O-Ring was replaced. Then it started tripping our circuit breaker as the shots were pulled. Next it quickly moved onto not working all together, both pulling shot and steaming milk.So why did we purchase another? As mentioned, does make nice espresso, compact, easy to use. I started researching more reliable machine, but wanted something quickly and had a familiar feel. So felt best option would be to try again in hopes the issues the last one had were hopefully a one off/poor quality machine. I still have serious concerns about its reliability. But let’s see what happens with this new replacement.

Our Bambino Plus Two Years Later

Pros:1) Whether it is a latte for my wife or an espresso shot for the guy I carpool with, others tell me that I make coffee shop quality drinks. This requires learning how to pull an espresso shot (I like the Barista Hustle guides). I only use the manual pre-infusion and shot volume mode (see cons).2) If you drink a lot of coffee, it can be much cheaper in the long run than k-cups.3) Three second startup is great.4) Auto milk is wonderful. I love the three options for heat and for foaminess. It lets you tailor the drink to the individual.Cons:1) As an engineer it is clear there is a major design flaw in the cleaning cycle. I love the three options for heat and for foaminess. It lets you tailor the drink to the individual.Cons:1) As an engineer it is clear there is a major design flaw in the cleaning cycle. After 200 extractions the machine forces you to perform a lengthy cleaning cycle. The design flaw is that there is no warning when this 200 limit is approaching and there is no way to bypass it. Imagine that you are making coffee drinks for friends. After making some drinks the machine says it needs a cleaning cycle performed and refuses to do any more extractions until a lengthy cleaning cycle is performed. Some of your friends got lattes, but others did not. A much better design would be to give a warning after 190 extractions and let the cleaning cycle be bypassed 10 times.2) The manual pre-infusion and shot volume mode is great, I wish it could be programmed so that I would not need to babysit my shots. Note that shot volume can be programmed, but manual pre-infusion cannot be. I would like my programmed shot volume to include pre-infusion.3) After two years and 5 months of use, the pressure is not what it used to be. I believe this is a descaling issue. I have followed all the descaling instructions and used Breville descaler every time that the machine descaling lights flashed. However, I suspect that the machine does not request to be descaled frequently enough.4) The cleaning cycle is messy. In two years of ownership without fail, every cleaning cycle produces a mess of slippery cleaning cycle water that escapes from the drip tray and spills onto the counter. Note that I follow the instructions, emptying the drip tray prior to the cleaning cycle. The reason this happens is because the drip tray is not able to contain the forcefully expelled water. It is a drip tray design flaw.Summary:I bought our Bambino Plus in May 2021. I would do it all over again. The cons I listed are all fixable (3 software and 1 mechanical). I gave the cons the details I did, because I’m an engineer and I hope Breville will use this to improve their products.

With some minor upgrades, it's an amazing machine
29 February 2024

The value of this machine is Amazing, so long as you're only doing medium and dark roasts (There's no temp control) this is quite an impressive machine and there's nothing on the market that can compare for this price. The Bambino Plus is not worth $200 more than this as the only benefit is the 3 way solenoid valve, but the pucks are still super easy to dispose of without it.The one thing that needs to be upgraded is the portafilter, get a bottomless portafilter and a precision basket and it turns this machine into a whole new beast. As for using it, I recommend getting a good flat burr grinder and dial it in for a 25-30 second shot with a 2:1 espresso to bean ratio. For work flow, make sure you run a blank shot or two through the group head before pulling your ... MoreThe value of this machine is Amazing, so long as you're only doing medium and dark roasts (There's no temp control) this is quite an impressive machine and there's nothing on the market that can compare for this price. Highly recommend it for anyone who is using medium or dark roast beans. If you want to make light roast espresso, this machine won't work.

[Rewarded Review] A Compact Powerhouse for Coffee Lovers
6 January 2024

As a dedicated home barista, I was thrilled to try out the Breville Bambino Espresso Machine, and it has exceeded my expectations. Its compact design is perfect for small kitchen counters, yet it doesn't compromise on performance. The machine heats up incredibly quickly, taking only a few seconds to reach the ideal brewing temperature, which is a significant advantage for busy mornings. One of the standout features of the Bambino is its automatic steam wand. It delivers barista-quality microfoam that's perfect for latte art. This feature alone sets it apart from other machines in its price range. The consistency of the espresso shots is impressive too, with the machine maintaining a stable temperature and pressure throughout the brewing process. The simplicity of ... MoreAs a dedicated home barista, I was thrilled to try out the Breville Bambino Espresso Machine, and it has exceeded my expectations. The consistency of the espresso shots is impressive too, with the machine maintaining a stable temperature and pressure throughout the brewing process. The simplicity of the Bambino is another plus. It's very user-friendly, with intuitive controls that make it easy for beginners to operate while still offering enough flexibility for more experienced users to experiment with their brews. However, it's worth noting that the water tank is relatively small, so frequent refills are needed if you're making multiple cups of coffee. Additionally, while the build quality is generally excellent, some parts are plastic, which might concern those looking for an all-metal construction. In conclusion, the Breville Bambino is an outstanding choice for anyone looking for a compact, efficient, and user-friendly espresso machine. It's ideal for small spaces and offers excellent value for its price, making it a worthy investment for coffee enthusiasts.
