As others have mentioned, the lid and auto shutoff haven’t worked properly on our kettle since we purchased it. The lid will pop open as soon as the water begins to boil/steam and won’t stay closed until it has cooled. Unfortunately we purchased it years ago and didn’t access warranty at the time. We continued to use it despite the lid, just making sure we didn’t start it and leave it unattended. It is beautiful, we really liked the look and had purchased it online and didn’t want to deal with the hassle of returning it. Looking back that may have been our best bet given the high cost we initially paid and the problems folks seem to have continued to have despite getting a replacement. However, did come across these reviews and thought it may be helpful to add our experience.

It's much quieter than my old kambrook kettle and hopefully it won't leak (like my old kambrook kettle).Only lost one star because the ON/OFF button is a bit small for me. I'd prefer a larger paddle (like my old kambrook kettle). It finds it's place on it's base very easily due to the slightly conical shape of the base. My old kettle's base was flatter so I had to fumble around when placing the kettle back onto it's base until it was perfectly in centre but this kettle is much easier to place onto it's base.It also pours nicely so I can control the flow rate easily.9/10 would recommend

We bought a Breville Crystal Clear (BKE595XL) a few years ago and we were very happy with it - until the lid just stopped opening when pushing the release button. One of the supports for the lid's swivel points seems to be broken (imho a part failure due to the mechanical impact when the lid snaps open).Nothing lasts forever, and this is ok as long as things can be repaired. The disappointing part here is that there are no spare parts available for this kettle other than the base and the filter insert. Gluing the swivel support doesn't seem to be an option, nor is keeping the lid open (due to the excess release of steam, and since it would require to switch off the kettle manually) or keeping it closed and refilling the kettle through the spout. In other words: The only option seems to be a replacement, which would be a real shame for such a small problem.Judging by the number of negative reviews related to lid issues, this might be a design problem. We are also surprised about how quickly some people encountered these issues (it seems like we were lucky that ours lasted that long).Because of these points we're reluctant to buy another one of the same model. This is also the reason for the 3-stars rating and why we wouldn't recommend the product.

This electric kettle was life-changing and I was delighted with it in every respect, until the lid-opening mechanism failed. The release button still works, but the lid doesn't rise on its own; I have to manually lift it to fill the kettle. I tried cleaning the hinge, thinking it might be hard-water deposits that were preventing the action, but it didn't help. If I release the latch and turn the kettle upside down, it does open (with gravity assist), so I'm thinking the spring may have weakened over time. Not a huge deal, but a little disappointing since Breville products are priced at a premium over other brands.I've had it for about four years, so maybe I'm expecting too much?
The kettle just stopped working. The lid was already dicey to use and would pop open on occasion when boiling, and also when pouring out water to a cup! Very dangerous. We still used it carefully as it was quite pricey to buy. Now it just stopped working. All in all very disappointed by -1) Lid defects, 2) base turning a dark color regularly, 3) Sometime metal flakes were visible in the water (from the base?), and 4) It just stopped working!I am way past the basic 1 year warranty, but kettles costing about $15 which I have had since before this Breville are still going strong without a single problem. I wonder why anyone would buy a premium product such as Breville without expecting it to be of better build quality and not dangerous, before just dying.I am ... MoreThe kettle just stopped working. I bought this Kettle about three years ago. It’s been a great little Kettle. It looks nice. It’s easy to keep clean because you can see all the debris on the bottom. Unfortunately, just this week the lid stopped going up and down automatically after pushing the button. The lid also popped open all by itself, allowing the water to boil all the way almost to dry before I caught it, leaving my entire kitchen full of water vapour. Probably buy another one anyway because I’m used to it.
Love this kettle so much. I make tea often, and it’s such a pretty kettle that’s quick to heat up water. Unfortunately the plastic part connecting the lid to the kettle broke (I’m very gentle as I adore this kettle), and now the lid won’t pop up as it’s supposed to. Overall would recommend the product, but beware. There isn’t a replacement part so I’m stuck. May have to find another company for my next kettle purchase.
The first one we bought lasted a few years before it started failing intermittently. It stopped turning off when boiling, seeming dangerous. We replaced it with the same model in 2021. It has now broken completely (switch not working, no indicator light). Also, the internal light failed very early on (cosmetic only). The guarantee is only one year.Impossible to even start to fix; has triangular socket screws. We expect more from such an expensive kettle. Will avoid all Breville products from now.
I bought my Chrystal Clear kettle after inspecting all the kettles on display in a store. I decided not to buy online as there were reviews of other kettles that were too heavy, or not made of expected material, a plastic chrome coloured handle, not metal. It took ages summing up the features, colour, weight, the look until I found the Chrystal Clear under the counter! Clear marking of minimum, maximum, number of cups; not too heavy; easy switch on with indicator light; automatic turn off safety feature if switched on with no water; automatic turn off when boiling; attractive lid with glass circular panel; attractive overall with chrome, glass and gray. The kettle boils quickly and the spout pours well. Everthing I want in a kettle. Only negative comment, it is a ... Very pleased with my purchase.
Love watching water boil!2nd time I've had a problem with the lid.1st time the lid needed to be lifted up manually. This time the lid won't open.I wanted to have it repaired under warranty which was declined, I was offered a 30% discount on the purchase of a new Breville product.I bought it from an auction site from BestBuy and was told "no warranties" are honoured from non-official Breville stores.I don't get it, BestBuy buys wholesale from Breville and sells dated, package opened, demo products, etc. on their web auction. My bid won and the email said I paid too little for it.Be aware of a slight elitist attitude when dealing with the support team.
