All BRITA water filter jugs use the MAXTRA+ filter with the unique MicroFlow technology, which is formulated to provide expert levels of filtration for different water conditions. Made of activated carbon from natural coconut shells, its activated carbon pearls act to absorb and lock away chlorine and other taste and odour impairing substances, resulting in fresher, cleaner water. Additionally, its ion exchange pearls help to reduce metals like lead and copper as well as ensuring reliable protection from limescale build-up. The in-built electronic indicator is designed to remind you when the filter should be replaced - for optimum performance, the filter should be changed every month (based on average household size drinking 8 glasses per day).

Great value! We have an Aluna filter jug from which we boil our kettle - the lid has to be removed every time and the jug put into the sink, it is a faff! So we've been keeping an eye out and this, coupled with 6 individual filters from Kaffekapslen was the best value. Having two jugs now means there is a better chance of finding a jug with water in it and being able to fill from the top without removing the lid saves time. The only negative compared to the Aluna is that you have to wait for the unfiltered water to clear the top of the jug as it will come out the top if you tip it too far, compared to the Aluna which is sealed.

I bought this Brita Marella Fridge Jug a few weeks ago and already I'm noticing a difference in the taste and quality of my drinking water. Previously I owned a Brita Classic Fridge Jug but already it's clear the newer jug is an improvement over this older model. The only negatives that I can mention is that both jugs dribble down the outside of the spout after pouring and the filters are too expensive. That said however, many retailers do have them on offer now and then so it pays to stock up when you can.

Then you wait for that to filter through which is rather slow about 4 minutes only then once that water has filtered through can you then open the lid and put another 1.2 litres in, but it is worth noting that this water will only be filtered when space is made in the bottom part of the jug. In other words, you only have 1.2 litres of filtered water at any one time. Therefore, if you plan to use this with guest over larger parties it may not be ideal. To give this some context the average glass contains around 240 milliliters, just five glasses can be poured with 1.2 litres. The alternative as forementioned is to wait for the first load to filter through and then put another 1.2 litres in the top of the jug. However, this makes it quite heavy about 3.4kg including the weight of the jug. This is likely to be too heavy for youngsters and when tipping the jug with this quantity of water there is always a chance that the lid will come of I normally use two hands one to support the lid and one for the handle but I have experienced no real problems. The jug with a filter included is relatively cheap. The replacement cartridges on the official website as of December 2020 are 3 pack 17.25 6 pack 32. This is outrageous Assuming each filter lasts 1 month the price is around 64year make of that what you will. I am not denying that it is an impressive product, and the water does taste different or maybe that is just marketing but it seems too much to pay. Of course, there are cheaper alternatives out there, but this gives you the gist.Another further point, there are two types of water that comes out of taps hard or soft. If you want to find out which one you have simply search it up and enter your postcode. Why is this relevant Hard water is better drinking water it offers many health benefits such as protecting your heart and bones whereas soft water is low in minerals especially calcium. In basic terms if you have hard water you may not even need this jug in the first placeOK now onto the pros and cons...ProsPackaged very well can be given as a gift.No waste filters are fully recyclable no more plastic bottle. All of the benefits from using the filter I wont go into these as it tells you in the product description.Wellmade product this is becoming a rarity nowadays, but it is robust, and everything fits in place like it should.Flip lid is convenient just use your thumb to open.Electronic display on the top to tell you when to replace a cartridge basically it is just a fourweek timer. The jug is dishwasher safe having said this you would need a massive dishwasher to be able to fit it in. I recommend just giving it a rinse under water after every use.Taste I am not convinced okay it does taste different, granted however this is only my experience. Nicer and fresh tasting water I havent noticed this to be honest. I still find mineral water nicer. But Brita have been around since 1966 and are still going so they must have done something right. Imagine it as a sieve but instead getting rid of any unwantedharmful elements.Looks very neat and minimalist great for a kitchen counter.ConsCapacity product description is misleading in my opinion.Price of cartridges.Durationlongevity of cartridges they say four weeks. I use them for 6 weeks but that is just to ease the burden of the expense. I can honestly say after 4 weeks you notice the performance of the filter dwindle.OverallThis is a good jug at a good price dont expect your life to be transformed but equally there are benefits scientifically proven to be gained. I recommend trying it. At the moment the price is 15 and if worse comes to worse you can always remove the filter and use as a regular jug instead. Thanks for reading this review, I hope that it has been informative. I looked at many different filters before I decided on this one when my old one died the death. Its easy to fill through a separate little lidded opening, it filters fast and the water tastes good and is crystalline. Its large so you can have about 1.5 litres at a time filtering. The usage gauge is just a 4 segment block which is timed I imagine to use a segment a week. I prefer the old system where I could actual put the end date on the lid, but this is ok. It was reasonable compared to others Id seen on the web and in the supermarket. I use filtered water for cooking and drinking so needed a large capacity. This ticks the boxes3320 Update. I wash the whole jug at least once every week with hot water and washing up liquid but I still get this green algae appearing. I never had this problem with my previous Brita water filter, but the plastic of the top container its a sort of patterned see through plastic is very different from the one in the previous jug which was smooth amp not at all opaque this one is opaque so maybe thats the problem that its a different kind of plastic. But Im not a scientist so..... still, its disappointing. I wouldnt buy it again because of this. Who knows what nasties are lurking there. I live in the same house so assume the water supply has not changed.

Design fault
22 September 2022

I have used a Brita filter jug for years, but eventually they do start to wear out so we bought the new Marella jug. What I have noticed is that there is a small pocket of water that remains in the well beneath the cartridge and doesn’t appear to ever drain away or get used, thereby meaning there is stale water resting in the jug until the filter is changed, unless you keep taking it apart. Perhaps this could be considered when a new line of jugs is designed. A bit disappointing really.

EVOLVE FILTERS DO NOT FIT ?
13 January 2023

The Marella jug takes Maxtra + filters. I purchesed Evolve filters when on special offer because it stated they were compatable with Maxtra jugs. I assumed that since my jug used Maxtra filters the Evolve filters would also fit, but they do not work in the Marella jug. I HAVE BEEN MISLEAD, if my jug can use a Maxtra filter, WHY NOT an Evolve filter. I have now got 12 filters that I cannot use !!

Leaky filter jug
7 March 2023

I've always love Brita. But in this particular occasion, it has disappointed me a bit. I noticed small amount of moisture at the bottom of the jug, but I didn't make much of it. This continued until I checked again and noticed that there was hairline crack at the bottom of the jug that was why it was leaking. The original packaging have been thrown out, and of course I already poured water obviously. Anyway, I still like Brita products

Marella machine could be easier
30 September 2022

Fairly sure my current machine is a Marella. It is a nuisance compared to my old machine / jug because the lid must be removed to re fill it which is a pain in the posterior. If the lid is not replaced firmly enough first time pouring water out and the lid comes off and everything is swamped. Replace firmly enough to keep it in place and next re fill you can't get the lid off without broken finger nails. It is a nuisance all round. My previous machine could be filled through the lid, so much easier plus the filters didn't float out of their fitment hole! Lid back off again!

New and improved design
8 April 2022

We already had a Brita water filter jug and was looking to just purchase some cartridges. I found this item in the sale which effectively meant the jug was for free. The new jug is a far better design than the old one, the main improvement is that you no longer have to remove the whole lid to fill it with water, as there is now an easy flip up similar to what you find on a kettle. The filtered water is much nicer to drink than straight out of the tap, and I also use filtered water in the kettle for better tasting tea and coffee. Strongly recommend.

Perfect solution to our hard water.
7 October 2021

Up until a while ago we always purchased bottled water for using in drinks as our water is so hard. Then we started to find it difficult to buy at the supermarket and so decided to try a water filter jug. We thought it would be worthwhile getting a known brand and so decided to get the Marella jug and filter pack. We also decided that as it could, we needed to put it in the fridge. I had heard somewhere that keeping it in the fridge also helps to get rid of the hard water taste. Well that was absolutely correct for us and we no longer buy bottled water, which means less plastic waste, and the water from the filter tastes great. It is also worth noting that you really need to change the filter when it tells you to, and of course they can also be recycled at most ... MoreUp until a while ago we always purchased bottled water for using in drinks as our water is so hard.
