British Paints Ceiling Paint & Prime White - 4L

(66 reviews)

British Paints Paint & Prime Ceiling Paint makes short work of ceilings, with an undercoat and topcoat in one. From a simple freshen-up to a bold colour change, your room will feel properly finished in just one coat over a previously painted surface — or two on bare plasterboard, or to cover joins and dark colours. Applied with a brush, roller or spray, Paint & Prime Ceiling will achieve a velvety, modern look with no separate primer required. The flat finish will absorb light and make imperfections such as uneven textures, cracks and joints less noticeable from down below. It also comes with a guarantee against mould growth for five years. Coverage: 10sqm per litre.

Avoid this paint unless you want a bad finish.

Pretty much impossible to get right. No matter the brush or roller, no matter the surface prep or texture. This paint comes out chalky and patchy. It also doesn’t reapply very easily. So if you cut it, wherever you overlap the roller with the semi dry brush work (even if it’s just a few seconds) it skins instantly and roughs up.We ended up doing 3 coats with no success. Ultimately going over the colour with Tuabmans. Only problem is the taubmans mix on our tint is actually a completely different colour.

Avoid buying this paint. It creates more work! After the second coat I gave up using it. Had to sand it all back, creating a massive mess and more effort, and start again with another product. It does not spread, it leaves a rough uneven finish. I consider myself a reasonable handyman and have painted houses previously. This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a negative review. It not only failed to deliver what was promised, it created more work.

Not a time saver, waste of money

Bought this product as a "time saver" and it's been anything but. Two coats of this and it looks terrible. Have gone over with two coats of Dulux and still struggling to get my smooth ceiling back. Probably should have sanded back and started again like some of the other reviewers. In small, dimly lit areas this paint is fine. DO NOT RECOMMEND for any large and/or bright areas.

Poor end result
3 January 2023

Poor end result, I have painted ceilings before and had no issue, so I tried this paint for my latest renovation and after 3 coats I am still looking at patches everywhere. I thought I was spreading the paint to thin making dry lines but I tried painting smaller zones and it is still patchy. I'm not sure how I am going to fix this as sanding the whole ceiling back while it is furnished is going to make a horrid mess and waste hours.

Poor paint finish- lap marks everywhere
12 January 2023

3 coats, horrible finish. Lap marks, really bad in natural light areas. Do not waste your time with this paint, might be ok for low light rooms such as bathrooms or toilets. I will be re-sanding and painting with dulux wash and wear Matt white. Only positive is that bunnings refunded me the money for 14 liters that I purchased and gave me the dulux for the same price so I wasn’t out of pocket. Thanks for that bunnings Campbelltown!

Poor quality paint.
26 February 2023

I purchased this to paint small ceiling in bathroom. Worst paint I have ever used. Does not apply on consistanly leaving roller marks and patches. No matter how many coats applied it just keeps getting worse. Also does not dry evenly. I have pained many ceilings over the years and never had an issue.

Terrible coverage
3 May 2023

Worst ceiling paint we have ever used. Have painted many homes before and used dulux paint but was convinced by the lady at bunnings to use this product should have gone with my gut instinct and stuck with dulux. Very patchy and hard to cover and leaves lines on the ceiling. Ceilings are hard to do at the best of times but bad paint makes it harder.

This timesaving paint is terrible and had to repaint over
10 November 2021

I bought this paint on recommendation that l would not have to prime the ceiling and is a newly rebranded product. Didn’t notice so much on a prepainted ceiling, but when applied to brand new gyprock ceiling it was awful. The paint had sepperrated and leftawful colour changing marks all over. The more it was painted the worse it got. Eventually getting several coats but in the end took it back for full refund. Bunnings agreed product is faulty and repainted with a better quality brand. Taking more coats to cover the bad colour of the paint. It is also pasty like plaster so it drys in seperate layers.Awful product.

Timesaver rubbish
23 July 2021

I needed to get a small bathroom painted before tradies came the next day to install shower screens and tapware, so was looking for a real timesaver. Painting direct on gyprock ceiling, a single coat finished horribly with patchy areas (and I did shake the tin between a couple of us for at least 5 mins). A second coat was also patchy like some parts were glossy and others not (days after drying). I'm sure a primer and any other brand ceiling paint would have been better. Hate this marketing that sells supposed time savings by mixing paint and primer .. much better off skipping this and doing the job properly with dedicated primer and specialist ceiling paint. I'm buying more ceiling paint for the rest of the job and will probably go over what this paint left.

Wish I read the reviews before buying this paint!
12 December 2022

I bought this paint yesterday and wish I had read the reviews first. Thought having a 2 in one paint would be great, big mistake. The paint is so thick you can barely apply it, after the first coat and a massive struggle, I used Metho to thin the paint, was able to get a second coat on but it wasn't easy, and the blue ceiling still showed though. Went back to bunnings to get Dulux ceiling white and what would you know - perfect! My advice - stick to Dulux
