Best running shoe I have ever worn in my 64 years of wearing shoes. I had plantar fasciitis in my left foot some years ago that still gives me some pain, as well as a Taylor's bunion on my right foot. I thought my running days were long gone. I was recommended to Brooks Trail shoes by a crossfit partner. I filled out the online questionnaire which focused on the 3 different shoes, based on my needs. Based on the reviews I selected the Caldera 6 and bought a 1/2 size larger than my casual/dress shoes. I have completed two 5K's and will be running a 10K in a couple weeks. Very happy with the fit and comfort of the shoe.

I've been a runner for over 40 years and have run in Brooks for the last 15. I started running trails about 10 years ago and switched from Glycerin to Cascadia as the trails were tearing up my shoes in 6 weeks (very rough pumice like surface). I'm moved and now running on less abrasive trails. I can tell when my shoes are done as my right calf/achillies starts bothering me. This happened last month and I decided to use the Brooks shoe selection app to see my options, it gave me Cascadia and Caldera as choices. I decided to try the Caldera and I absolutely loved them from the first steps. They offer excellent stability and cushioning and are very comfortable to run in. Couldn't be happier. May have found the best shoe I've ever run in.

Good shoes, but at first will feel clumpy

This is my second set of Caldera 6 shoes. The first time I bought them, they felt incredibly odd. Very comfortable, but almost like running in slippers. They're also not the grippiest of shoes out of the box, but do bed in quite nicely. This second set was bought for when the first set eventually wear out. If you find a good set of trainers that work you, then for me it's always worth getting a second or even third set in case the next gen shoe isn't quite as good for you.Overall, very good shoe but accept that it needs a little bedding in time. Great for ultras and all day comfort. Big toe box too.

Great shoe but not ideal for technical trails.
29 June 2024

A great shoe for mixed trails/road but not one for technical trails. After three +30km runs on mixed but straightforward trails (grass, mud, hard pack) I decided to try the Caldera 6 on a +5hr technical trail. After 2hrs i had to lace in a heal lock and after three hours i was starting to get blisters on my toes. I found I was getting too much movement in the toe box with aggressive downhill running. I found the extra width on the outsole caught on things which was annoying, something that you could get used to by adjusting running style to accomodate. Interestingly the shoe saved me from an ankle roll, it was like magical guardrails appeared. Pretty cool. I really like the shoe but will only use on long parkland type runs going forward.

Horrible customer service. Horrible Warehouse staff
5 June 2024

This review is mainly for Brooks itself. I never got to try the shoes because I bought an all black shoe but I received a box for a black shoe with some ugly gray, orange and purple shoes on the inside. Brooks was not able to accommodate in any fashion only telling me that the item was no longer available and they could not price match anything else and therefore expected me to return the item and wait for a refund. This is my first buying experience with this company but it will be my last. I've got another pair coming and I'm not even going to open the box. They're going to be completely straightforward, returned right then and there upon delivery. I can't attest to the quality of the shoes but I can tell you this company is not worth my time.

Not for me, but others might enjoy it
3 December 2023

I was suggested by a Brooks Guru to try Caldera for trails since I mainly rely on Glycerins for my road runs. However, Caldera does not feel like Glycerin at all despite the sole being the same. Te biggest issue that I have seen other reviewers referring to as well is the toe box as I believe it is defective. On the right foot, my big toe hits the toe box with every stride and caused blisters in a short 5 mile flat run. You can imagine how much worse this would be on a downhill. I do not have this issue with Glycerin, Adrenaline, Catamount 2, and Cascadia 16. All of those other shoes work perfectly for me, so I expected no issue with Caldera, but seems the toe box design is different.Other than the toe box, the cushion also feels much much plushier than the ... MoreI was suggested by a Brooks Guru to try Caldera for trails since I mainly rely on Glycerins for my road runs. It absorbs all of your energy and it's hard to get going on them.I ended up relying on Catamount 2 and Cascadia for my trail runs as those seem to not have these issues.

Not so wonderful anymore-why did you change?
14 October 2023

Zero stars. This is not as wonderful as the previous. I have been using the Caldera 4 & Caldera 5 for many, many years with miraculous feet, hip & back pain healing/relief from those sneakers. Why did you change the sole? It is now higher & harder with a different design. It does not give and cushion anymore. I don't know what I'm going to do. This was my go-to work and leisure sneaker. You should sell that old technology to foot/back pain sufferers & hip replacement recipients. This sneaker looks nice and comes in more wonderful colors but does not perform as the older ones did. I am so sad. See photos (my old to the left and the new to the right). Will you ever go back?

Painful, but soft and controlled.
2 June 2024

I’d like to start off by saying that I think Brooks is a great brand that makes great shoes, for great runners. However, the Caldera 6’s were extremely painful for me, especially on the exterior forefoot. Every step was more painful than the other, even after I stopped running. Which is weird, because when I first tried them on, they were very comfy. I only lasted 2 miles into my trail run before I had to take them off and walk home. I have pretty narrow feet, and for some reason it just felt as if my feet were squeezing me to death. Now my socks are ruined from walking home lol. I’m just happy that Brooks had a great return policy and that I can return these with ease.If you have narrower feet than me, I think you’d really enjoy these.(Additional information: I ... MoreI’d like to start off by saying that I think Brooks is a great brand that makes great shoes, for great runners. Stable, soft and comfortable. Great traction
25 June 2024

Was looking for a good stable shoe for trail running and R2R. Came across the Brooks Caldera 6 Trail by chance and it was on sale. Told myself just take a chance as I need super cushion and these days that comes at a heavy price. I've used competitors shoes at a much higher price only to have them break down after 150-200 miles. I'm just not into $1 a mile running. I like a wide shoe and roomy toe box but need stability. When I first put them on I thought wth is up with these as the bottom felt stiff but as I ran across the room I could feel the cushion. Hit the trail which is a mix or rock and blow sand and did 10 miles with no issues. I just bought another pair for when these give out.

Tested in the rocky rivers of the Sierras
15 October 2022

Best trail shoes I've used to date. I tested them in the rocky terrain and rivers of the Sierras. I went on a trek with some friends over Bishop Pass, through the Sierra's and out the Middle Fork of the Kings River over the course of 8 days. We hiked around 80 miles, with the first 60 on trail and the final 20ish miles down a river. We got yelled at by a fellow hiker going over Bishop Pass for wearing running shoes with our 40 lb packs. For the river section we scrambled over granite boulders and boulder hopped for 6-8 hours per day for 3 days straight. We were in and out of the water, crossing the river around 30 times a day by swimming or wading through ankle deep to chest deep water. The shoe performance was amazing! The extra wide foot print helped with traction on slippery rocks, and for transitioning between wet, dry and sandy conditions. The drainage of the shoes could improve, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice the durability. Of all 6 of us, these shoes fared the best - some other brand trail shoes had to be taped up in order to finish the through hike. The only visible wear is on the inside of the ankle area (see pics). Thanks for making an amazing shoe that performed under extreme hiking conditions!!!
