Printer works well, however, I have some doubts as to its longevity as it is principally constructed from plastic. My last second-hand mono laser printer worked for over 20 years had a large metal content.Pleased with the quality of the print and speed of printing.Interestingly I use this printer once day and it doesn't go into sleep mode. It switches itself off thus saving power. I haven't looked in the settings to check if there is a sleep function.Happy with with purchase and would recommend for daily domestic use.

OK, you've bought the big fancy printers, like I have - and you've got proof - half a dozen out the back, not working, in a mess. Brother - HL 110 Printer

Unbelievable price for a good quality Black only printer. Exactly what I was looking for as a home printer. Photo quality printer are very expensive to run and the Supermarket photo printing from memory stick is far superior at a fraction of the price. This little printer does the job of printing document quickly and efficiently, at a price per print which is reasonable. The likes of Canon charge the earth for ink cartridges which makes the process unviable for home use.The replacement toner cartridges are reasonably priced for around 1500 pages per cartridge and it will take me years to print that many sheets. Excellent little home printer and no problems so far albeit only owned for two weeks. I would recommend this printer for Home use for Black only ... MoreUnbelievable price for a good quality Black only printer. Exactly what I was looking for as a home printer. Cheap, easy, perfect for light use.

I bought this as a cheap, relatively portable laser printer to use when travelling away on work conferences. It was easy to set up, and for my limited demands on it, works without a hitch. It is compact, therefore easy to throw in the car, and while not being a true "travel" printer, it is laser and it is CHEAP.These printers are NOT designed for heavy use (I have an HL-L9200CDW in my home office). When the drum dies (10,000 pages), just throw the machine away, as a replacement drum costs more than the printer itself. Even a replacement Brother toner cartridge costs almost as much as the printer (albeit giving you 300 pages more toner than the 700 page cartridge it ships with). So I will be trying generic toners at that point. So I will be trying generic toners at that point. If you print several thousand pages per year, then over a few years it is MUCH more economical to spend $500+ on a decent printer with 6,000+ page toner cartridges and 25,000+ page drum units. This is a cheap printer, so my high rating is not meant to indicate that the quality of the machine or the output is in any way comparable to a more expensive machine. You get what you pay for. But I have no complaints with it, given what it is. Output is totally acceptable; setup and form factor are both excellent.NOTE: this printer does NOT ship with a USB cable. Either find a spare lying around, or add a few $ to the price for a cheap cable. In summary, for my purposes, this printer perfectly hits the spot.

Good, compact office printer
14 July 2020

It's a great, small low-cost printer. I like the size - it fits perfectly in a shelf/sideboard. Therefore you don't have a printer-monster in your living space. But the quality is what you pay for: For text it's alright - but if it gets small or the text is in a certain grey - the resolution is pretty low. Therefore it's a trade-off: Amazing size (and price) for print quality. But as it's exactly what I need - some text printed at home - it's perfect! Would buy it again!

Laser Vs Ink Jet
4 November 2016

I was tired of paying a fortune for ink cartridges and since colour is not really necessary for the items I print, I chose a Brother laser printer for our home office. The Brother HL-1110 is light, inexpensive, easy to load with toner and extremely fast and quiet when printing. I was advised that it is economical, as it will print 1000 pages before needing new toner. The disappointing things I found about this printer, are:1. It does not automatically turn itself off after a period of non use, therefore the power pack gets extremely hot if left on.2. After printing about 5 pages the whole printer gets extremely hot. The printed pages are actually hot as they are emitted from the printer.3. The printed pages are actually hot as they are emitted from the printer.3. Once the printer begins emitting crisp heated paper, it catches on part of the plastic as it rolls out and jams as it gets caught and folds like a concertina and wedges firmly inside the machine, making it very hard to free the jam. This seems to happen every time 5 or more pages are printed at any one time.I would not buy this printer again, as its time consuming to keep having to free jammed paper, and inconvenient to only be able to print 4 pages at a time of a large document.I guess the saying. .. "you get what you pay for" is apt in this case. It was cheap and I got cheap, but this product does not do the Brother reputation any good.I have had Brother ink jet printers before and was pleased with their performance (not with the cost of cartridges) and I have a brother sewing machine, which I am happy with, but not their laser printer HL-1110.

Not happy with instructions
18 August 2019

I have previously have on 3 occasions purchased Brother printers, all HL-2140/2142, and could not be more pleased. However the ink eventually runs out. This time I could not buy another HL2140, and settled for a HL 1110. I assume they are no longer made. My main difficulty was the set up instructions. I realise that the use hieroglyphics and pictures is both ancient and in current use, but sadly my education has been in English, so the instructions were awful, which was a disappointment for me as the instructions for the HL 2140 were easy to follow. In the end I got lucky and I got the printer working. Why would Brother use the childlike "picture language" when the majority of its customers speak and read English?

Simple, small and reliable student printer

I bought this printer a few months ago due to other printers in the household always having issues with connectivity (wifi connection printers).General:This is a great little printer or small businesses that only require simple and/or small print jobs. I use this printer for printing invoices and my study notes. The paper tray is quite small, but it is not really an issue for me as I don't print large documents. You will need to turn the paper over to be able to print double sided and there are print guides on the paper tray. I haven't figured out how to print multiple pages per side and also double sided - I suspect it's not possible with this printer.Reliability & Compatibility:This printer is compatible with my Macbook and I have not had any issues to ... MoreI bought this printer a few months ago due to other printers in the household always having issues with connectivity (wifi connection printers).General:This is a great little printer or small businesses that only require simple and/or small print jobs. I haven't figured out how to print multiple pages per side and also double sided - I suspect it's not possible with this printer.Reliability & Compatibility:This printer is compatible with my Macbook and I have not had any issues to date. It was simply plug and play. The printer works every time, I haven't experienced any jams or malfunctions. I have had issues with multiple printers in the past that had the wifi connectivity option where you had to constantly reset the wifi on the printer to be able to print, otherwise it wouldn't connect. This printer only has a usb connection available, so you can't really go wrong. I expect this printer will last for a while.Quality:There is no doubt that this is not your top of the line printer. The construction is plastic and can feel a little fragile - just keep the printer in its own little spot, don't abuse it and you'll be fine. The print quality itself is not amazing, but it is perfectly sufficient for printing simple text jobs. Don't expect to print graphics with this. There is a slightly longer delay between printing on the computer and the printer doing the job than more expensive printers. It is also quite loud when printing.Value:This printer is amazing value considering that it is a laser printer. At this price on the market, the only other options are inkjet printers. So, if you just need a reliable little printer for basic print jobs, this is perfect! One thing to note is that you do need to buy the usb cable separately. If you're tossing away an older printer, just keep the cable and you won't need to buy a new one!

cheap, effective but not so simple

The printer has very few bad points - it is quick, simple and a good print quality BUT its genius designers didn't tell users about the power button which doubles as a test print function and ALSO when the cartridge runs out of powder the printer sets itself permanently to error state so that even with a new cartridge installed it still appears to need new cartridge or drum unit replacement. Trawling through many web 'help' pages later, revealed the fix which is; many multiple presses - 6 or 12 in a fast sequence of the 'power button', plus a power cycle or two and magically the thing comes good. It took me two new print cartridges to discover this plus several hours of frustration. The actual handbook is useless as it does not give any concise directions about this ... MoreThe printer has very few bad points - it is quick, simple and a good print quality BUT its genius designers didn't tell users about the power button which doubles as a test print function and ALSO when the cartridge runs out of powder the printer sets itself permanently to error state so that even with a new cartridge installed it still appears to need new cartridge or drum unit replacement.
