Works great otherwise, but toner warranty is wrong

I bought this printer. Works great overall, but after only 3-4 months it started telling me the BLACK toner is low needing replaced. I removed it to shake it, then reinserted. This began after printing less than 30 pages that were the equivalent of less than 15 full pages of printing since the printouts covered only about 1/2 of the pages. When I went to chat to ask for a replacement BLACK toner, they told me the toner has a lesser warranty than 1 year for the rest of the machine, which seems unfair and improper. Since my machine is hooked to the Internet and the diagnostics showed less than 30 pages, they could have easily verified I haven't used anywhere near the 2300 pages that the starter cartridges are advertised to give and I also gave them the serial number for the toner cartridge. If the included starting toner cartridge is rated for 2300 pages, it shouldn't be saying it needs replaced after less than 23 full equivalent pages, which is less than 1% of what is advertised! They said there is no warranty on the black toner cartridge giving less than 30 pages of ink and said I would have to buy a new toner cartridge at my own expense. Would it really be that hard or expensive for Brother to have mailed me a free replacement or a coupon to get a free one at the store?!?!?! They lose many stars for what would have been a simple fix.

The MFC-L3780CDW offers an extensive set of functions that make it a versatile choice for both home and office users. Its wireless connectivity ensures that you can print from your smartphone or laptop with ease. The color printing capability is a standout feature, offering vivid and sharp prints that are perfect for professional documents and colorful presentations. One of the most appreciated aspects of this printer is its fast print speed. It's capable of churning out 25 pages per minute, which is quite impressive for a printer in this price range. The automatic document feeder (ADF) is a great time-saver, making it a breeze to scan, copy, or fax multi-page documents. The 250-sheet paper tray capacity means fewer interruptions for paper reloads. Moreover, Brother has a solid reputation for reliability, and the MFC-L3780CDW lives up to this reputation. It's a workhorse that can handle a heavy workload without breaking a sweat. The user-friendly touchscreen interface makes it easy to navigate through the printer's settings and functions, even for those who aren't tech-savvy.Now, let's delve into the shortcomings. One of the noticeable downsides is the size and weight of this printer. It's quite bulky and heavy, which might be an issue if you have limited desk space. The design could be more compact and aesthetically pleasing.Another drawback is the cost of replacement toner cartridges. While the initial purchase price is reasonable, the long-term cost of consumables can add up quickly. It's important to consider this ongoing expense when budgeting for this printer. The scanner quality is decent, but it's not the best in its class. If you need high-quality scans for professional purposes, you might want to look at dedicated scanners. The same can be said for photo printing – while it's passable for basic needs, don't expect gallery-quality prints. Finally, Brother's mobile app, while functional, could use some improvement in terms of user-friendliness and features. It's not as intuitive as some of the competition. In summary, the Brother MFC-L3780CDW Wireless Color All-in-One printer is a reliable and versatile workhorse with impressive color printing capabilities and a range of useful features. However, it's let down by its bulky design, ongoing consumable costs, and slightly subpar scanner and photo printing quality. For those looking for an all-in-one solution with solid overall performance, this printer deserves a 4 out of 5 stars. With some improvements in design and consumable costs, it could easily earn a perfect score.

For output on standard stock laser paper, the system performed well. It printed quietly and quickly and image quality was excellent. One of my concerns was with the installation process. I was impressed when, out of the box, I was able to fully set up the unit on my home WiFi without connecting it to a PC or Mac. The touchscreen on the front of the unit made selecting and authenticating to my WiFi network easy, and upon connection the system recognized a pending firmware update and proceeded to install it without significant input from me. Once I got up and running with the basics standalone, I was able to perform driver setups and installations on both Mac and PC endpoints. It was a normal software installation on Windows 11, but on my Mac it was immediately detected under a somewhat generic-seeming driver, but when I installed the Brother utilities from Brother's website for this model, the software seemed just as generic. The print and scan utility included by Brother is very simplified and leaves much to be desired if this is also going to be used as more than a document printer in your all-in-one scenario. The scanner purports to support high resolution scanning, but the software lacks the controls you’d want for photographic scanning or archival scanning, where deinterlacing and other tools are helpful but not very effective in this software. The printer has been working quietly and reliably for a few weeks now, and will likely become a long-term fixture in my home office, but will have to continue to partner with my AIO photo inkjet printer for imaging needs, both input and output.

[Rewarded Review] A great color all in one business printer
17 October 2023

I started working remotely in 2009 and at the time I purchased a Dell 2335dn high volume printer with scanner. That was a beast, big, heavy and 2009 technology. That was a beast, big, heavy and 2009 technology. It was becoming increasingly hard to setup the printer with new devices and really really hard to find toner for it. With an advertised volume slightly less than but comparable to my Dell, full color options, and LCD touch screen this seemed like it would be a worthwhile upgrade. After using it for a while now I can say that overall my feelings are mixed, but over the long term I anticipate it being a worthy replacement to my home office needs. In addition to my home office needs, which admittedly see reduced printing needs year after year (I can do most receipts online and post pandemic most contracts have been executed on DocuSign), we as a family do have robust needs for printing on our social calendar. Between my wife and I we server on school committee, PTO, a couple local charitable orgs, the park and recreation department and coach one or two youth sport teams most seasons. This busy social calendar does mean color flyers, practice schedules and other documents are in high demand. I was please to see that this prints color far more efficiently than most ink jets that I've dealt with in the past, I haven't tried photos but adding a splash of color works really well: "business" uses. I will say for high volume print jobs in black and white, like research papers etc. that may run 40 - 80 pages this printer takes noticeably longer than my older one but not enough to be a burden.I did give 4 stars instead of 5 for two major reasons: 1) This was the hardest device I've had to setup in a number of years. I'm wondering if part of the issue was use of wired LAN instead of WiFi but the out of the box network configurations didn't work and prevented registration, firmware, etc from working and made it very confusing. 2) I wasn't a fan of the Refresh subscription. 2a) I really didn't like being asked to commit to a plan before I had learned how much we really print in a month. If I had to guess I'd say over 100 pages a month, but the cost of that plan is around $180 annually. 2b) Doing that arithmetic made this feel like a bum deal, in 14 years on my last printer I bought toner 7 times at a rough cost of $65 to $110 depending on if I could find recycled cartridges. While I recognize CMYB is 4 times the cartridges of a simple black and white, I want the flexibility to print work documents that may run up to 200 pages and if in the long run I need to replace cartridges annually or more I'm probably not going to be happy.

[Rewarded Review] A new monster printer for your office!

The Brother 3780 printer is a must have for any business. It is meant for small business', but is really versatile in any setting. The printer comes well packed, and out of the box you can tell there is a great level of quality in the printer, as you would expect with Brother products all together. Set up is pretty easy, and you will need to download the Brother mobile connect app to utilize all of its features. After setting up on your network and installing the print drivers on your devices, you can start printing, scanning, copying or faxing. All of that controllable by the 3.5" touchscreen, which is very acurate and responsive. The touchscreen menus are easy to navigate and manage printer tasks. You can also set up printing with Alexa, and use other services like Apple Air print as well. The paper tray is easy to pull out and fill. It holds half a ream of paper which is enough to cover the whole day of printing for me which is nice. Printing itself is amazing. The laser quality printing and super speed mean my customers get to spend less time standing around waiting for invoices or receipts to print, and get clear, crisp printing every time. The double sided printing is awesome and is some of the quickest I have ever seen. This printer can handle up to 30 pages a minute. The quick scan copying works flawlessly and can handle up to 50 pages at a time. The scan quality is really great considering how fast it scans the documents. It has worked really great any time I need to copy outside invoices into my pc or duplicate customer order sheets that need to be picked from multiple areas. It really cuts down on time over all.One nice touch is the enhanced NFC security protocol to protect your wirless transmissions. Having that extra protection gives peace of mind from sensitive documents being intercepted by prying eyes.I have really enjoyed using this printer and it has been a major upgrade for my business. One nice things is it comes with a 4 month refresh subscription trial which is a pretty cool service and saves you up to 50 percent on cartriges. .Overall, this is an excellent printer and is well worth the investment for your small business. It does come with faxing features as well as scan and print from usb features as well that I have not yet needed to utilize.

[Rewarded Review] GREAT WIRELESS COLOR LASER ALL-IN-ONE

I am really impressed with the Brother MFC-L3780CDW Wireless Color All-in-One Laser printer. I typically don't like "wireless" printers because of WiFi speed and performance, but this printer seemed to work exceptionally well and the speed of printing multiple pages was quite amazing. I believe it was rated for 30ppm and it clearly could do that.I don't fax much anymore so I didn't test this capability, but I'm sure it would work as advertised.Scanning was easy and produced high quality digital files.Print quality with the color laser was all that I would expect from laser-quality technology, plus the color printing speed was equal to that of the black. The quite heavy laser and its box were a bit of a challenge bringing it inside our home. However, Brother had a excellent, super heavy weight "bag" that the MFC printer was in that it was super easy to remove the printer from the box. I even saved the bag because it will make it easier for us to move the printer to it's permanent location within our home, after I remove the existing printer that's currectly occupying the space. The printer was well-packaged with "specialty tape" holding the various components in place during shipping.I would highly recommend this BROTHER MFC color laser to anyone, but have a buddy help with the moving of the printer because it's probably one of the heaviest MFC's I've ever used!

[Rewarded Review] Gigantic Printer For When You Need EVERYTHING

We all know how printers work, there’s not much setup to this review. What I can tell you right away is that it’s NOT a printer for a small home office or apartment. This box arrived and it was huge, then I attempted to pick it up and I almost killed myself! It’s a large, heavy, dense, absolute UNIT of a laser printer!!!In the box is the printer, an assortment of paperwork in two or three languages, a phone cable, a power cable, and the beast of a printer itself. Once you get the printer unearthed from the styrofoam and papers there’s a plastic bag with handles around it which you can utilize to get it out of the box if you’re brave. I am not brave, I reached deep and just deadlifted it out onto the desk where it will live forever. Once you get the printer unearthed from the styrofoam and papers there’s a plastic bag with handles around it which you can utilize to get it out of the box if you’re brave. I am not brave, I reached deep and just deadlifted it out onto the desk where it will live forever. There’s what I assume to be rubber pads on the bottom as it doesn’t scoot easily so be sure you place it correctly right away. Setup is pretty easy, the usual removing tape and plastic guards from your ink cartridges but you’ll want to be sure to check EVERY nook and cranny as I almost missed a large piece of tape and a moisture absorbing packet in the paper tray. With power the printer comes on and goes to the main menu allowing you to copy or scan and there’s a message about updating firmware and setting up wifi. I set up the wifi quickly and without hassle and the firmware took maybe 4-5 minutes to update.Scanning quality to file is beautiful, detailed, and I have no complaints….this is on par with every scanner I’ve used before. Copying was equally simple and satisfactory, nothing to report there. Printing is a dream! Documents almost fly out, the speed is very quick. Pictures printed just as fast as black and white and came out looking crisp and high definition unlike some color prints I’ve done elsewhere with some kind of color shade differences making them look blurry or not quite up to par. Very impressive color printing, this would be the reason to consider this printer above anything else you’re looking at, the speed and clarity is unmatched in my experience. There’s a number of features that would make your small business or your office run so much more efficiently such as password protected printing which stores your print request but doesn’t print until you arrive and put in your password. There’s scan to PC, USB, mobile device which do exactly what you’d think. It’s a lot more than necessary for a home environment but its nice to have the extra features in case you need them for something.Great printer, highly recommended but you’re going to need a large space to set this up as the footprint is huge, approximately 18x16x16. If you can fit this beautiful machine in your living space then you’ll not be disappointed. Laser printers look as good or better than ink printers and their ink seems to last much longer!

[Rewarded Review] Really Love This Thing!!

This printer arrived in my world at just the right time. As someone who owns their own business as a side job AND is also a deeply involved parent in my child's school I often have a need to print a large amount if items on a regular basis. For my business I print promotional material as well as documentation and invoices. Printing on this printer gives all of those a really great professional look that says I pay attention to detail. Colors are nice and crisp and lines are sharp and well defined. Even down to the smallest of details. I thought my previous printer was good at it's job, but this one has shown me that it was barely past the OK line. For all of the things I do for the school I am so very impressed with the overall speed I get from this printer. I often print upwards of three to four hundred surveys, letters, or notification flyers to be distributed among multiple classes. Previously, I had to stagger my print jobs across several days because my old printer couldn't handle that much all at once without jamming or slowly degrading image quality from the begging and the end of the batch. This one, however, just ripped through it all, laughing all the way.If you're looking for an excellent small office / home office machine then look no further. This one will have basically everything you'll have a need for.

decent laser prtr, with caveats

Owning other Brother printers and happy with them, thought this would be another excellent laser printer, like its big brother the L8900, which I also have.Wrong. Print quality is fair, but not as crisp and with poorer contrast than the L8900. It's fast, set-up was simple and quick, had it up and running on my network in minutes.BUT, here's the rub: For some bizarre reason, Brother decided to switch mobile print apps, from iPrint/Scan to Brother Mobile Connect. The new app is "required" for many functions when accessed via mobile devices. The new app is HORRIBLE. The new app is "required" for many functions when accessed via mobile devices. The new app is HORRIBLE. Absolutely ridiculous to insist I endure ENDLESS popups for Brother "Refresh" direct delivery consumables just to UPDATE THE FIRMWARE and register the device online. In fact, that is not required, nor the only way to do so - but that's what Brother says in the setup instructions and online. The app has basic functionality you'd expect, once you dodge the barrage of ads for Brother ink and toner, web sign-in/account create requests (you only do it once, but the app does NOT recognize existing linked accounts). I never had such issues with the older iPrint & Scan app, which works well. The mobile connect app is not only largely useless, but an annoyance to the extreme. I really like Brother Laser printers, and have had outstanding service from them. I have one that's 12 yrs old, and still works perfectly. Can't say as to longevity for the L3870CDW as only had it a few days. It appears to work ok, but print quality isn't in same class as the L8900, nor even my ancient monochrome brother laser. Hopefully the L3780 will last, but Brother needs to DUMP the Brother Mobile app, fire the people responsible for it, and start over. There is NO reason to have to use multiple apps to use different Brother printers. At least this printer does have multiple I/O options, not limited to just WiF or USB connectivity. All MFC devices in this class should have LAN, USB, and wireless connectivity options. At this point, I can recommend this printer, but only because it's a Brother, and it works overall... but it's a very qualified recommendation, and I would suggest other models before this one.
