Just bought this for the home, which appears to be totally overboard but for me it was essential. I specifically went with this model because of its legal size (8.5 x 14.0 in) scanner window. With it I don't have to un-staple documents (of legal size) to run them in the ADF like I used to do with other printer models that don't offer a legal size scanning window. My first flatbed Scanner in 1992 was an Epson which had a scanning window of Ledger size but it was to slow and noisy which I returned after one week to order an HP IIc with a Legal sized window. In those days there weren't all-in-ones like this marvelous MFC-L8900CDW. The two-sided one-pass ADF scanning is an immense time saver and because it is one-pass it is very precise besides being super quick. I ... I printed documents with fine print and this "printer" is very satisfactory, I also printed some photos on plain so-so paper and again the results are very satisfactory. This printer is quieter than my old MFC-L2700DW. I would wish that the paper drawer would hold 500 sheets instead of 250. I would never buy an extra paper caddy for my home environment. The 5inch diagonal colour touch display is fantastic to have and "NORMAL" in 2022. After having "suffered" the 2 line monochrome LCD screen on my previous MFC-L2700DW. Reconfiguring the setup or verifying statuses is done so promptly with this new colour touchscreen display. All in all I am enchanted Hahaha with this purchase, I am happy with this ownership of a very fine piece of modern equipment that is the MFC-L8900CDW

Needed something beefier for working at home and for school for the family. I was tried of inkjet printers getting gummed up and having expensive ink to replace often. I had a Brother B&W printer and decided to try this one. It's big and heavy, but does about everything you could want. If you get accessories, you have more options for your printing needs. The starter toners come with a decent amount of ink. Replacement can be expensive, but they last a long time and shouldn't gum up. The printer was easy to setup, and copying, scanning, and faxing all work with no issues. Seems like a workhorse so far. Touchscreen guides you through settings easily, or use your computer. It comes with a setup CD, but it's easier to just download the latest drivers and install. Double sided, envelopes, letter, legal, it'll print them no problems. The only drawback is the fact the default paper tray is only 250 pages. I got a 500 sheet add-on, but for something like this, 250 is on the low side. Overall a sturdy and well working color laser all in one. They are still hard to find at retail price, grab one when it shows up.

So far the best color laser printer for home use I've had in the last 20 years. Easy to set up from the beginning only issues I had were the software loaded a 2 versions of drivers which impacted dual sided printing. Once discovered, deleting the bad driver solved the problem. The second issue was in changing from letter to legal size paper. Instruction was a bit weak but was able to figure it out after 15 minutes. Now with issues resolved, I'm very happy with the decision to buy this printer. I've recommended this printer to many friends and now they have the issue of finding one. Operates very efficiently. Have printed nearly 1000 pages, in B&W and color combined, to date and still have plenty of toner remaining.

had HP, Canon & Epson before and frankly was looking at a Canon. Out of stock everywhere and since good reviews and I wanted it immediately, I thought I was settling on this printer. Not only has it exceeded my expectations in just about every way, it was the simplest device I ever hooked up into my Apple Mac home office environment. In minutes of turning on, I was printing from my iPhone, iPad and desktop all wirelessly and no fuss. This is a workhorse. When only wireless connection, it does as other reviewers say take 30-seconds to spool and wake up, but it makes total sense. In what real world situation in your home business is 30-seconds to start printing too long? Sheesh, come on people. Thats not a real complaint. So far the toner has been lasting well into my ... In what real world situation in your home business is 30-seconds to start printing too long? Sheesh, come on people. Thats not a real complaint. So far the toner has been lasting well into my expectations and the quality is just fantastic. I had been using an inkjet for so long I forget how professional color lasers look and consistent the colors are. No inkjet streaking, weird color shades, fading… Just professional looking output - every time. The scanner was higher resolution here than on the Canon, so that was nice for archiving photos which I do occasionally. Otherwise the quick regular settings work great. Double sided printing is fast and clean. No toner powder visible anywhere, no clumps of unbury toner. I really am so happy with this printer. I printed about 300 pages the first day as I was assembling a sheet music library of my .PDF’s and it just went about its business quietly. No smell as some report come from LED lasers. Never felt it give off any radiant heat or anything like that and I sit right at a 90 degree angle from it. The hoppers are good sized and I have printed up to 80 lb. Paper without issues including sheets of labels. I have not tried envelopes yet, but the feed is solid unlike my HP which was wimpy at best. I run a home business. However, I print about equally for personal and business usage. I could not be happier and Brother printer/scanners from here on out for me. I do scan more than average I would say and have had no issues at all. Hint for Mac users, a lot of them don;‘T know you can scan directly to Preview App from the File -> Scan from (printer name) menu option. Simple and makes making .PDF’s a breeze and from a single built-in app.
At this point of my recent purchase and installation a new Brother MFC-L8900CDW laser printer, I must say that it has performed flawlessly. However, to keep this review in context, I must say that I am not the volume user that this printer was designed to satisfy. I bought this machine to give me the long term reliability that most cheaper home printers are unlikely to give. I also wanted a color laser printer that produces near perfect print quality. This Brother machine produces results that meet or exceed my expectations in that area. The setup of this new machine was very uncomplicated and took no time at all. So, after just over two months of use I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. Only more time will create a basis for a more detailed review.
Forgive the long story here. I’ve used HP printers for decades. When my 7-yr-old color laser multifunction HP bit the dust, I ordered an HP replacement. When it arrived, the setup procedure was ridiculously complicated and, in the end, the printer would not connect to my WiFi network and apparently had some sort of software flaw. I packed it up, sent it back and ordered this Brother. When it arrived, I was very impressed with how well it was built. The replacement HP seemed flimsy with a thin shell and flimsy paper drawers. This Brother was robust. I’ve been using it now for about a month or so and am 100% satisfied.
I am the Clerk / Treasurer for a small town of under 2000 people. Our office does approx. 900 prints or "copies" a month. We have had this machine less than 1 year and we have had nothing but trouble from the first month. The colors are not vibrant like other laser printers I have used, it has a longer than usual delay before it prints like sometimes a minute or more. The toner cartridges leak, and the pages all get color drops on them. It comes set so that you use all the colors when you print so the toner goes fast, and it is set at 20% so it says change the toner well before it is empty. Our IT guy fixed the % so we could at least get 95% of the toner and changed it so all the toners aren't used for black and white pages. We started receiving faxes for about 2 ... I am not speaking for all Brother machines and maybe this one is just a lemon, but I am going back to HP. Sorry Brother you just don't measure up to them.
This printer was purchased for a small office environment. It's been in service two weeks. It has all the functionality that an MFP should have. Easy to set up on the network and wireless printing worked immediately. The printer is quiet when in operation. Key features that are tough to find for a printer in this price range are direct copy of legal size docs, easy to use graphics screen, superb color clarity and the ability to both scan and fax. The only feature that would add to the functionality is a second paper drawer so that both letter and legal size paper can be used without having to switch paper in a single drawer. If you are looking for a color, multi functional printer at a reasonable cost then this is it. I'll also mention that two other competitors were ... I am happy to report that this has been one of my most successful purchases. I bought this printer from Staples Canada in June 2018 and have printed about 4800 pages according to its page counter. It is still performing as well now as when I first unboxed it. For everyday printing, I use 24-lb paper. I also use card stock for greeting cards, business cards, event tickets, posters, and the like. There has not been a single paper jam! I don't print photographs yet the colour is quite good for posters and the like. The single-pass duplex scanning is a grand feature as is the automatic duplex printing. I did use use the fax feature a couple times but who faxes nowadays? Can you tell I am very pleased with this printer? It's a definite 5 out of 5. Based on my experience, ... I am honestly happy with the printer.
I do Loan refi work and I purchased this printer because it was recommended by the employees and the ratings were decent with 4.5 star rating. This is poorly designed slow old software. It definetly lags I can only scan 15-17 docs on high compression PDF before it starts scanning super slow. Most of the time it grabs more than 1 document and skips scans. The printer function does not print legal and letter even with 2 trays you have to tell your computer to print the letter first then tell it to print the legal. So if I am printing a 200+ page PDG where pages 1-20 are letter and page 21 is legal and page 22-29 is letter and pages 30-68 are legal and so on I have to write down which pages are letter print page 1-20 then print page 21 in legal and then print 22-29. It is not in my computer settings either I have it set to print page size. Lastly, I have replaced the drum because the alert told me to. The printer starts to print black lines on my pages when the black toner is running low. It didnt start to do this until I needed the drum. Even after replacing the drum 2 toners later once the toner starts to run low but not empty and without the printer prompting me to change it drags marks on my pages. I would not recommend this printer to anyone. For $600 plus another $200 for a second tray and $80 per toner it is not worth the headache when other printer do so much better. Now the employees are recommending the HP. Just shows you can do research and ask employees and still get a crap device.
