Buderim Ginger Naked Ginger
Buderim Ginger Naked Ginger G/F 175g is a pack of sweetened ginger pieces for people who enjoy ginger's warm, zesty flavour in snacks and home baking. The pieces have a soft, chewy texture and come without the outer sugar crystals found on crystallised ginger. Keep a pack in the pantry for serving as it is or cutting into recipes. The ginger is infused in cane sugar syrup for up to 12 days, giving it a golden colour and sweetness that sits alongside its distinctive ginger bite. Naked refers to the absence of the crystallised coating. The ingredients are ginger and cane sugar, so the pieces bring sweetness as well as spice to whatever you make. For baking, chop a few pieces into fruit cake, ginger biscuits, muffins or a loaf mixture. Smaller pieces help distribute the flavour through the mixture, while larger chunks give a more pronounced ginger bite. You can also scatter chopped ginger over a dessert or serve it alongside fruit and cheese when putting together a small platter for guests. The 175g size works for trying a recipe or keeping some ginger on hand between baking sessions. Serve a few pieces with tea or coffee when you want a sweet ginger snack without preparing anything. Its ready-to-eat format is useful when a recipe calls for sweetened ginger pieces, while the uncoated surface makes it different from the crunchy crystallised style. This pack contains 55% ginger and is labelled gluten free. It is packed in Australia using Australian and imported ingredients. May contain sulphites, so take that declaration into account when choosing snacks or ingredients for other people. Store the ginger in a dry, cool place and keep the pack closed between uses.

Although it's a great tasting product, it's very high in sugar, not good for diabetics. I thought it was naked ginger, uncoated in sugar but when I opened the packet the pieces were coated in sugar. The nutritional panel reads that 100 grams has 72grams of sugar! That's equivalent to 17 teaspoons of sugar! It also contains the preservative Sulphites to which I'm highly allergic to! A better choice is the Buderim ginger bears which have less sugar and are sulphite free.

It's advertised as "naked ginger uncrystallized" but it is only 55% ginger, the rest is cane sugar according to the packaging. Maybe that overestimates the ginger content because the packaging also states every 25 grams of the product contains 18 grams of sugar. Ginger root has only1.7 grams of sugar per 100 grams of ginger. This should be disclosed prior to sale. This product is positively dangerous to diabetics, yet real ginger is positively beneficial to diabetics.
