This thing is the greatest invention for flying, annoying insects. It is unbelievable how hard it is to shoot a flying fly out of the air, not due to the gun, but how crazy and unpredictable their flight path is and definitely takes some practice, but it is fun. If you wait for them to land, game over for the fly every time. Also works on yellow jackets which are far easier to hit but need at least a double tap. The only downside is once you start hunting for flies, you eventually get them all and you're left hunting literally every off color small dark spot in the house hoping it's a fly. Tempted to leave the door open so they come in to meet their demise.

A More Powerful Alternative.

Now my mother and father fight over the darn thing while sitting on the porch blasting flies. Well I felt it was time to add another couple to the family! Bought two 3.0 yellow guns and now mom doesn’t have to fight over the weapon and I have one for each hand! I love these things. They help me keep my sanity when dealing with summer flies in our rural area. Heck they keep my parents busy as well. 5 stars all the way. I would recommend these to anyone. Bug-A-Salt...

The ad says -- Each shot uses just one pinch of ordinary table salt to drop a bug whole, leaving no nasty mess to clean up. -- Really? Sometimes, even at close range the fly just shakes it off and fly's away. I'd have to shoot it several times, every now and then. "No nasty mess to clean up"??? Oh yes there is. Body parts are every where, and salt is just about every where. If you get close enough to a fly, lets say, 3 inches, that bug with exploded! I sat down, the other day and when I looked at my hand there was a wing and half a body part on me! I'd have to say, there are a lot of nasty messes to clean up after each shot. BUT, on the other hand, I am kind of glad I purchased the Amazing Bug-A-Salt... It just the mess afterward.

These ingenious gizmos are like BB gun shotguns but they shoot table salt shot in a spray pattern that takes out flies like you read about in the news. They are very high quality for the price, depending on the season will last 2-3 years before the plastic trigger sear finally gives up the ghost. You are best off using it like a shotgun, point it at your target and USE THE FORCE. I have found that the laser pointer option on these fly-pounders isn't really needed. You see a fly, point at it, shoot. Within 6 feet the fly is a gonner. And if you don't kill the little f*(!@# you will most certainly take it's mind off having that sweet, sweet, fly sex and making more of itself. What I would really like to see Lorenzo and Skell INC. do is make a 3.1 version with an Aluminum or steel trigger sear and a matching end for the plunger rod made out of appropriate metal. If they did that the life of their guns would definitely increase. But even at a couple years these guns are still worth it. They are dependable and can really make things less annoying when you just want to sit outdoors in peace without frikkin' flies landing on you and crapping on everything.

Great product with amazing customer service!
17 September 2022

I bought a Bug-a-salt because we have livestock making our yard a target rich environment. I thought my son and I could take turns with it. How wrong I was. He is a dedicated bug hunter and I wasn't getting much trigger time. I decided to buy a 2nd gun but there was a sale so I ended up buying a third to keep on hand as a present should the need arise. One of the guns ended up having a small issue but after emailing customer support, they quickly warrantied the issue. Amazing customer service! To make up for the missed hunting time they included a bug beam! Very clever marketing team! This thing is a game changer! Now our other guns need beams so I'm about to place another order! I despise flies with a visceral passion and bought this seemingly ridiculous item to dispense violent retribution upon my enemy thinking it would be a frivolous expense that might give me some small joy in dispatching these disgusting invaders. We have already destroyed multitudes of swatters trying to get rid of these repugnant pests that plague us, but they persist and multiply, torturing me with their incessant annoying buzz. Since I had been about to resort to an expensive leather device for smashing them, I figured I would temper my frustration with constantly missing them by blasting them with salt instead.I woefully underestimated how extremely emotionally rewarding this would turn out to be, and also misjudged how effective the tool itself would prove. So glad I gave in to the impulse and got both the pump action and the CO2 powered instruments of fly death. The rifle has a great spread that knocks the zig zaggers clean outta the air when they refuse to sit still long enough to target with the pistol, and the salt means I do not have to endure complaints of the smell of any spray that I usually resort to when swatting fails the task. AND I can rid myself of the vile pestilence and cleanse my kitchen of nasty spirit energy at the same time!Apparently I should have joined a skeet shooting team instead of softball when I was in school. I am so much better at shooting flies with these things than I ever was at splatting them with a swatter! My batting percentage with the swatters was only around .300 even after a warm up on a good day of accuracy and speed, but armed with the B-A-S duo I'm batting close to 1.000 on day one. I actually cleared the house in no time and had to go outside to hunt down more flies!I never imagined how deeply satisfying it would be to pick off these little f****** as they perched on the corner of a toaster or glass. And if that was all it was, it would be enough to make the man who invented this my hero, but the darned thing actually works so much better than a swatter for killing flies, I may claim him as my spirit animal or patron saint as well. I can't even express how grateful I am to have something I bought on a whim be both so bloody useful as well as such a joy to use.Thank you. This was money surprisingly well spent. I am really happy with my purchase of both the Shredder set and Bug-A-Salt 3.0 plus bug beam! I may take em out to the garden to see how the earwigs like them too. Today I let the flies know that the game has changed now that I have leveled up.And I smiled the whole time.

Legit, effective on mosquitoes & flys

okay I see there's no reviews yet and that's why I'm writing this one on the 3.0 I believe I have the 2.5 I do not see it written on the outside of the unit I have a yellow and green version with the older safety which is a little bit annoying cuz sometimes you forget to throw it when the mosquito lands. but I did want to reassure everyone that this is a legit & effective tool. I prefer it with safety glasses so I don't have to close my eyes: when I am shooting it pretty close to me indoors or outside on the stucco where it really hurts when you miss the mosquito or overzealously try to swat it, sometimes there could be a little bounce back of salt. it's probably not been enough to harm, but it would sting because it's salt if in your eye. same goes for when I use ... Moreokay I see there's no reviews yet and that's why I'm writing this one on the 3.0 I believe I have the 2.5 I do not see it written on the outside of the unit I have a yellow and green version with the older safety which is a little bit annoying cuz sometimes you forget to throw it when the mosquito lands. but I did want to reassure everyone that this is a legit & effective tool. I prefer it with safety glasses so I don't have to close my eyes: when I am shooting it pretty close to me indoors or outside on the stucco where it really hurts when you miss the mosquito or overzealously try to swat it, sometimes there could be a little bounce back of salt. it's probably not been enough to harm, but it would sting because it's salt if in your eye. same goes for when I use it towards the ceiling. lol. also good for extending your reach in that regard. stored inside to keep the salt from getting moist from high humidity. you can easily be 2.5ft or 3ft away & get the pesky mosquito. a reminder that some plants don't love salt so I wouldn't go to town on some ants right above a favorite plant but it's not like it puts out that much if you only have one mosquito or two. also effective if you have s spider in a corner or if you have children in the house and don't want those stinky strong chemicals either on your surfaces or especially in your air. - a lady whom only owns this one 'type' of gun, doesn't use it super often, but loves it. my point being I do think it's suitable for people who otherwise may feel uneasy with the look or name. it might not add as much value for people who have bug services who come and constantly keep pesticides lining their kitchen cabinets; unless they also spend time on a patio. ***I do think Lowe's would do well to carry the CLEAR & NEON ORANGE one because when I stand out front shooting for a few minutes if its been extra wet out*** mosquitoes I think silly coloring is nicer, especially than the black coloring. I don't want to freak out people while they're driving by pointing a gun at my own house. the number one spot I have a problem with mosquitoes is out front by my door & windows if we've had a few wet days. I think the primarily clear & bright orange is ***a lot more inclusive for people who don't look like me (white lady)***. if you don't live in the middle of the woods, the probably considered cool colors don't seem like the best idea. I have some neighbors who would definitely be alarmed, maybe even by me, if I had the dark colored one... cuz you have to stand there and wait for the mosquito to land so there's a backing or at least it's far more effective if there's a backing so I can spend 5 minutes getting 20 mosquitoes. plenty long for neighbors to drive by seeing me aiming.

The battle has begun!

First things first, this is a game changer in the war on pests! When you put this weapon in your hands you know that your about to rain down hate and salt on any pests that cross your path! I must say that I still fire my bug-A-Salt rife with a smile on my face every time! Now I do have one complaint, durring the heat of battle your hand (if wet) can slip when trying to calk the rifle. If the rear of the slide had a little more flair on it to catch your hand better that would be the ONLY improvement I would make. Since owning my new rifle 3.0 flies, moths, and even roaches don't stand a chance! Thank you Bug-A-Salt team for giving me the edge in this war on pests!

Works inside & outside; lots of fun, good product for the money
12 October 2022

Got this as a birthday gift a couple years ago. I've taken camping, used in the back yard, garage (most often) and even in the kitchen (flies like to land on the cables for hanging lights making standard fly swatter mitigation difficult). It's taken down large spiders and wasps in 1 shot (I leave the outdoor spiders alone but when the big hairy ones crawl up onto my workbench when I'm building something with my daughters I don't have much of a choice!). Highly recommend and think making models color tailored to sports teams (#tailgating) would be a great next move. If you take my advice, I'd l'd love a Nebraska Cornhusker one in Scarlet & Cream colors!
