I really do like this scent! a lot more than I initially thought I would. And by each passing day I use this ; I fall in love a little more. I love this particular scent for almost any time of the year except maybe very hot summer days. The scent is intoxicating and very well blended. A sweet fruity/floral scent livened up with the woodsy notes in the background; a very round scent without any sharpness. Incredibly versatile. My boyfriend goes crazy for it after he gets home, and I have had it on for over 5 hours at that point. He grabs the nape of my neck and just delves in face first with a big wiff. I received a sample from Nordstrom on my last visit and was looking for something different from my normal floral or gourmand loves. I had heard of byredo but hadn't actually tried anything, I'm glad my introduction to the brand was so pleasant! I was worried seeing that this scent had leather notes in it as well, I hate the smell. I had tried the ombre leather from Tom Ford and had wanted to gag but was happily surprised that this was so much more then that. It doesn't smell like leather at all to me. It does have a certain amount of depth to it and it's so fun to explore said depth! One of the only scents that makes me want to take a deep breath of it all day long. I want all my clothes to smell like this. It starts very leathery to me (even though that’s a base note) with enchanting notes of peony and plum. I would not at all call this a fruity floral, but the peach, plum, peony, and violet all contribute to a well rounded, very soft scent. Almost like you’ve placed a basket of freshly picked, very ripe stone fruits and darker florals in a room full of leather books. It dries down to a “skin but so much better” scent, with the vanilla coming through without being sweet at all, and the patchouli making it sexy without being overwhelming. I love the lemon, bergamot, vetiver, and violet notes. It’s cheerful and warm. Clean and happy but also crisp and ambery. It feels like a warm, sunny day. It lasts a very long time for me which is also a huge plus. Bal d'Afrique by Byredo is a Amber Woody fragrance for women and men. Bal d'Afrique was launched in 2009. The nose behind this fragrance is Jérôme Epinette. Top notes are Tagetes, Amalfi Lemon, Black Currant, Bergamot and African Orange flower; middle notes are Violet, Cyclamen and Jasmine; base notes are Vetiver, Amber, Musk and Virginia Cedar

I usually think of perfumes such as these as more artistic concepts, like unusually cut clothes and bizarre jewellery that look breath-taking, but you're not sure if you personally can wear it!It doesn't smell like a library (while we can enjoy the smell of old books and wood varnish, it's probably not what we want to smell on ourselves or other humans), but it does conjure up the aesthetic of a well-read, scholarly woman who wears romantic blouses and pleated trousers, keeps her hair styled in an artfully messy up-do, carelessly applies flawless red lipstick... She probably smokes as well. But this is my impression, and as this strikes me as such a changeable fragrance, I would be fascinated as to how it develops on other women and men!Definitely not a safe blind buy, but in this case my gamble paid off! The dry down on me is subtle, but casually powerful. After three spritzes (both wrists and neck) yesterday morning, I was still cocooned in sultry softness when I woke up today.

Gorgeous fragrance - for both men and women

I went into a Space NK pre-COVID and had a test of this fragrance. The memory of that lingered throughout lockdown as something I wanted to go back and test - I couldn't quite commit to purchasing online. Last week, I finally went back and tried in person and this scent was everything I remembered. I'm hopeless at describing fragrances but will try! This is not a heady headache inducing fragrance which keeps knocking you in the face each time you move, it's a fresh but yet sophisticated and slightly dark scent. I'd say it's the colour purple somehow....it's a grown up fragrance and has a very sexy undertone. It is warm but not cloying or overly heavy like a "library" fragrance. Unique and beautiful

I first tried this perfume in March and have been thinking about it ever since. I finally purchased it months later and it is just as beautiful as I remembered. It’s a distinct and unique fragrance which is musky yet fresh. It’s not too heavy but the balance of notes makes it great for day time and evening. I find the longevity to be good and I can smell this on myself hours after spraying it. I would highly recommend this perfume.

Unique and exquisite

This is my signature scent if I ever had to say I had one for sure. I haven't smelt ANYTHING like this. I'm not into lemon scents but this is an exception and arguably my favourite perfume out of the approx. 100 perfumes I have in my collection. I'm a fraghead...yes. The lemon in this is sweet and gentle, beautifully blended with the floral and woody notes. Absolutely amazing. Price is jarring and way to high, but I'd purchase again without hesitation because I have to always have it. Gorgeous

it's giving old money vibes

It's difficult to describe but this perfume just smells like old money. It makes me think of a house with beautiful wooden floors, a decadent lounge room with a fireplace and old books lining the walls. It makes me think of an expensive liquor in a crystal glass, walking through a backyard orchard, a fancy leather bag (we all know the one I mean) and big fat diamond earrings. It's very strong so one spray works for me, but it lingers all day. I get many compliments on this and whenever my friends come over they always treat themselves to a spray. This would be a great occasion perfume but also if you're like me and like a little drama, this could also work as a daily.
