It doesn't matter what century it is. Democracy has its enemies, and from time to time those enemies need shooting at. With that in mind, Infinity Ward has taken its ever popular Call of Duty series out of the 1940s and World War II and into the modern era. You might have left behind the moral comfort to be had from knowing you're fighting Nazis, but now you get to play with all kinds of fancy modern doodads. Fighting as a U.S. Marine or a British SAS soldier, you'll travel the world, dropping into troubled hotspots through a twisting and turning story to defend truth, justice and.well, whatever qualifies as the American way these days. You'll fight with any of 70 new weapons and pieces of kit, including assault rifles with laser sites, claymore mines, .50 caliber sniper rifles, and M-249 SAW machine guns. Other fancy gadgets include night-vision goggles and ghillie suits for you to do your stealthy thing with. Naturally, it all comes with a dollop of next gen gloss, with the graphics overhauled and improved audio which includes realistic battle communications chatter. On top of all that, players can team up in customizable multiplayer action in this classic game that launched Call of Duty into the stratosphere!

(Experience the recoil of a 12 gauge shotgun— or dare say— a .50 caliber rifle in real life with both feet on the ground and then tell me what you think the likelihood of hitting anything whilst leaping would be.) I’m not looking for 100% realism from a Call of Duty game, but there are too many players hopping about the map for my practical sensibilities. *Cheaters! Third-party programs/accessories that help you do everything from auto-aim to highlighting enemies are readily available online, and it’s not just a “PC” problem; PS4 hacks are common. Lately, I feel like every 3rd match I’m reporting someone for blatant cheating. To make matters more frustrating, I’m told in past COD games, Activision was able to identify cheaters and relegate them to “Cheater only servers”. To my knowledge, they’ve been unable to do that in this version. FINAL THOUGHTS: The good definitely outweighs the bad and I wish I’d given this online experience a chance sooner. Honestly, if Activision could find a way to curtail the rampant cheating, this would be a definite 5-Star review.

A Good Game Hidden in a Fantastic One

Modern Warfare is a great package that comes very close to being one of the all-time greats in the Call of Duty echelon, but poor decisions and incomplete design mar the final package.CAMPAIGN: The main campaign for Modern Warfare is a HBO-esque adventure that follows three main characters as they strive to retrieve stolen weaponized gas that threatens the world. The story itself is nothing truly awe inspiring, taking many story beats from modern military films, but it is in its presentation that it truly shines. The campaign does a fantastic job with transitions between the briefing and the when you gain control. The sound design is truly amazing along with the gorgeous visuals. This is a game you want to play in 4K and HDR. While the campaign struggles to truly touch on and say something meaningful about some modern-day political topics and concerns, there is enough here that will make the campaign interesting enough for you to play until completion. It's a trip well worth playing through, and you'll experience some truly amazing moments throughout its relatively short runtime.MULTIPLAYER: This is the main entree to most people who will buy this game. Before diving in, I'd like the explore the mechanics and core gameplay of the game. In short, it's fantastic. The guns all feel like they have a heft to them that makes shooting a absolutely joy. This paired with the fantastic sound design make for some of the most effective and immersive gunplay I've experienced in modern military games to date. There are many new modes that have been implemented in the latest iteration of COD. The most intriguing and well-designed one is gun fight, a 2v2 game mode where everyone starts out with the exact same loadout and battle it out--the first to five wins, wins. This is where the strength of Modern Warfare shines.Another new mode is Ground War; this mode has 64 players with new massive maps. If you've played Battlefield's conquest mode, this is Modern Warfare's take on it. Unfortunately, it plays like a poor-mans Battlefield. While some may revel in the chaos and sheer amount of players, the kill streaks, unbalanced vehicles, and mediocre map design made it a disappointing experience. If you want to a modern military shooter with massive maps, go back to play Battlefield 4, because this just isn't it.The maps. Oh yes, the maps. It is exceedingly disappointing that with such strong core mechanics and amazing gunplay, the way the maps are designed make for a poor experience. There is an abundance of campers in every single match; the lighting in this game, while gorgeous for campaign and to look at, is terrible in practice for multiplayer. The player visibility is also terrible--if you've played Battlefield V, you may know a thing or two about why player visibility matters. You'll often find yourself dying to people you simply cannot see. This strips away the balance of the game. Many matches will run up to the end of the time limit because of how many people will be sitting in corners, making for a very slow and unfun experience. The spawning system in the game is also pretty poor. The game also employs a system called Skill-Based Match Making; while some may praise its implementation, it makes for a incredibly abrasive experience. If you have friends that you'd like to play with, you better hope that our skill levels are relatively the same or you'll end up in matches that are either completely against you or for you. The system also strips the game of its variety as you'll constantly be playing against people who are equally if not better than you, essentialy making it near impossible to use less-developed guns or less optimal builds. It's disappointing because the mechanics and gameplay itself is so addicting, but the map design and questionable balance completely hinder what could've been a slam dunk,SPEC OPS: The less said, the better.Modern Warfare is well worth your time, especially in regards with the campaign. If you're also looking for a game to play with friends, this one is it. Not only can you play cross platform with every platform, the splitscreen runs exceedingly well and barely has any hitches (compared to the abysmal performance in Black Ops 4). While the campaign and gun fight mode showcase the best of what Modern Warfare has to offer, other factors continually keep the game from rising up to the grand standards the series has set with games such as COD4, Modern Warfare 2, and Black Ops 1.

Its a huge massive improvement over Black Ops 3, it is an improvement over Modern Warfare 4 remastered. I really like being able to open and close door and peek out windows and fight I really like how it gives you a ton of options of how you want to alter your strategies. \nIts unfortunate it doesn't have the options for custome restrictions in games like cod ghosts had.\n\nI laughed when one of my team members yelled at me for shooting at them. I'm not enjoying the default operators so far a few of them are kind of annoying unless you earn or purchase addtional operators but its sure better than Bo 3. Games plays well on Ps4 but cause the fan to spin very loud and the console to get hot, so expect some loud noise with your console when playing. The only real thing making me dislike the game is the cheating behavior of the bots/AI and the stupid intentional things its programmed to do. Not hearing the footsteps or noise from an enemy right behind you is annoying. If you're gonna play offline be prepared to be shot in the back repeatedly, also forget about Snentry gun killstreaks unless you're going to guard the back side of them. The AI is programmed to run up from behind on them and destroy them as soon as you drop one.\n\nThe guns and graphics are gorgeous and I actually like the added gore and blood its about dam time. This isn't a cartoon game like Wow and that's a good thing. cod ghosts seem to lack blood and gore of any kind. If you have a fast internet connection with low latency this game is probably a lot of fun online and the rewards for the XP you get for playing. Good you can have different game play styles if you're not a runner and gunner and regardless there's nothing wrong with camping and flanking its called strategy. I don't reccomend the game for people with satellite internet connections unless you're playing offline.

Most of the time, when you die playing this game, you'll watch the killcam and think to yourself, "Wow, there was no avoiding that."PUBG as a battle royale is a very tactical shooter. Most of the time you get picked off by someone who you can't see. This game dynamic is now in Call of Duty.Rainbow Six: Siege includes peeking and leaning, allowing players to tactically plan their match according to very small maps and clever angles. Call of Duty now includes this. The Battlefield franchise is known for their large maps with countless places to sit and snipe from. Call of Duty now includes similar maps that seemingly require you to camp. Finally, Modern Warfare rewards camping unlike any other Call of Duty game that I have ever seen. Treyarch always used the "three-lane formula", a middle open part, and two narrow side lanes to a map. Infinity Ward used to keep maps tight and compact, so as to avoid large areas for unfair advantages. Over the weekend, my tendency to run-and-gun has been trampled several times. Once the match clock counts down, it's a footrace to that first spot that can pick off one to five people in the first thirty seconds of the match. The buildings are closed off, meaning that there are typically very few, or only one, entrance/exit. Place a claymore down, set up shop behind the crack of debris, and you've got yourself a 35-kill match. Meanwhile, anyone who wants to play the game like the last twelve CoD titles is sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard, going 2-15, wondering how it is that they were picked off in their own spawn.I give this rating because the only way you are going to enjoy this game is if you commit to the level of the basement lurker who has a playtime exceeding 1000 hours within the first few months. If you're a normal player who wants to run-and-gun or spray-and-pray, I suggest you stick with Black Ops 4. That game is a Michaelangelo masterpiece compared to this steaming pile of trash. Save your sixty dollars until they can "reinvent" the series next year by reverting back to what it should be.

One of Call of Duty’s best games ever. Certainly a better buy than the new MW3. The campaign took me a few days to finish. Graphics look phenomenal. Really hard to tell that the game is as old as it is.Probably the best remaster COD has done. I think this even looks better than the more recent MW2 remaster. Certainly is more fun since that game only had the campaign remastered.Definitely worth buying if you haven’t already. I totally realize I’m late to the party as this was an Xbox One game and I played on my Series X.

Pretty decent game overall I’d like to just point out that the gun sounds are absolutely amazing. The graphics are magnificent and the new design of the game is really astounding. For gamers that like to play fast paced FPS but also like strategic fps, I highly recommend this game. So far, in my opinion the best COD game ever. The awesome thing is now you can controls tanks and the new ground war mode is historical in COD, never have I seen so many people go face to face in a round of domination ever in COD. The new attachments are amazing, and the pros and cons of each individual attachment really helps if you don’t know what to put on your m4a1 or your .50 gs, regardless what gun, this new update has been really helpful to me. The new field upgrade update allows you to activate a mini kill streak that recharged over time, some field upgrades include trophy system, EMP drones, stopping power rounds, and many more. The new updates in this game are massive and really awesome. However, Though this game may seem like a utopia for gamers so far, the game will likely be full of trash talkers, if not, campers and people that are AFK, but this will most likely be found in any FPS games so there isn’t much cons to pull this game down, regardless of any cons actually, because COD modern warfare still has many pros to support the fact that this game deserves a 9.8/10 overall. However I am surprised at the fact that there is not prestige yet and I hope there will be one in further update. For gamers that like a mix of fast paced FPS and games like Rainbow six, COD modern warfare is a perfect mix of both. I hope this has been helpful for y’all.

Great game, already a classic

Fantastic game from the beginning to end. With various difficulty levels including ultra realism. Each individual missions are great and are quite big. There is some parts were sniping is important and stealth missions are on another level. Although frustrating at times , gameplay remains consistent with plenty of action and getting out of sticky situations becomes an achievement in itself. For me, however, my gaming experience has been stifled quite a bit because every now and again it crashes. And when it does its always when respawning, having to reboot the ps4 several times in succession. This is the case for all copies. Restart helps but not always. Highly recommended before you get modern warfare 2.

Used to be good

This used to be a great and fun game where you were matched with people your own skill level or just a little bit better than you. Enough to where it made you want to improve and become better. Now there is no skill based match making and this game is beyond frustrating. I have a day job along with going to school so I don’t have time to spend all day every day on here getting to a pro level and yet I’m playing against people that eat, breath, sleep and dream this game. It’s just not fun anymore. They need to mockery up with match making that’s based off of your K/D ratio and not if your level 850 or not. Anyone reguardless or skill can reach level 850. Unless your plan is to be the next sweaty YouTube streamer then find a different game.
