I say ‘attempted’ because this stuck to me even after a shower and scrubbing at the spots I had sprayed. Even then, I could still distinctly pick up the fragrance on my skin. Now, all that to say, even though it performed and lasted well, it acted as a true Parfum concentration fragrance. That is to say, it did not project well, at all, for me. Even after the initial application even my wife had to put her face inches from me to catch the scent. Sillage was also below average. This can be a good or bad thing, depending on what you want to use the fragrance for. This brings me to my next point and, unfortunately, the bad news: I did not like this scent. As always, I tested the fragrance before looking at the note breakdown in order to see how the fragrance came across to me without being influenced by prior knowledge. To me, this came across as a very confusing scent. It was fresh but heavy in an almost boozy sort of way, and not one that worked for me. I thought there was some familiarity but couldn’t quite put my finger on it but it resembled a Rum accord to my nose. When I looked at the official listed notes of Pink Pepper, Lavender, and Cacao, the freshness/heaviness duality made much more sense. To their point, all 3 of these notes can certainly be picked up if you knew to look for them, but their blending made the overall sum something that I did not enjoy. I could see this being a favorite for someone who really enjoys the dark, sultry nature of a Cacao fragrance. That note, combined with the Lavender and Pink Pepper make this most suited for cooler weather, nighttime, and/or date night settings, in my opinion. I’ve tried another fragrance from the Defy line (I can’t remember whether it was the EDT or the EDP) and remember enjoying it more than I did this Parfum version. However, neither blew me away and I would never buy a full bottle of either of them. Therefore, I certainly wouldn’t recommend blind-buying this fragrance but definitely think it’s worth a sample if it’s available to test out for free at a department/fragrance store. I’m sure somebody out there could love it!
