Does a GREAT job of keeping water inside the tube from freezing while skiing this winter. Much better than the gray insulated tube but…water still freezes in the bite valve even under the cover. The cover also forces the bite vale too close to the end of the tube leaving just a small portion of the bite vale to actually be…bitable.

I bought the hot weather insulated tube earlier this year thinking it might work, only to have it freeze constantly on ~20F hikes. This tube keeps everything nice and liquid and doesn’t make me think I’m going to destroy a tube

I was looking for the HydraPak ArcticFusion Hydration Tube, to keep my tube from freezing in my Hydrapak. However, REI didn't have it. I bought this on slim chance that it would be compatible and OMG, it worked!!!! I've used this several times with my Hydrapak and I'm thrilled that it is compatible and doesn't leak! However, on the downside, it definitely froze on a recent hike, so that was a bummer. I probably still need to buy the ArcticFusion tube, in hopes that it can actually prevent the tube from freezing.

I work as a ski instructor at local ski hill. I've been using the Camelbak Bootlegger pack 4 days a week for a couple of seasons. Occasionally, on really cold days, water may freeze in the bite valve, but haven't had a problem with getting it flowing again. Water has never frozen in insulated tube. Good product!
I bought mine at least 3 years ago, although it seems like this is an accessory to use in wintertime I find it most useful in the summertime because it prevents the liquids in the tube from direct sun exposure. It will not keep liquids/ water cold in the tube, but it will not be annoyingly warm when you are sipping with thirst during a hot summer hike. It does what it says: thermal control. For below 0 temperatures it’s always best to carry a bottle.
Bought this for snowboarding in the winter. Last season my regular tube froze and I couldn't stay as hydrated as well as I would've liked.Insulation material wraps snug around the tube and it was a simple swap for install. Spout cover is durable rubber. Keep in mind that you won't be able to use a magnetic trap with this anymore.
I highly recommend upgrading to this tube if you are a skier/snowboarder. My tube kept freezing and I'd be carrying around extra water that I couldn't drink. The bite valve is a simpler design and does not have the 90degree turn which is why I think this tube works so well in colder weather. I still had to blow water out of the tube with every use and it did freeze on a -9 day but at that temp you cant expect much. A must have if you love exploring cold mountains.
The Camelbak I’m using is approximately a 2008 model but the bladder is a new Crux model. For some reason I thought i was only getting the sleeve, not a hose also. Hose/sleeve is a larger diameter than previous models and appears to be longer as well. Immediately replaced the bite valve and cover with a new valve. The cover for the bite valve isn’t really worth using. Haven’t used this in the cold but it helps keep the sun from making my water extremely hot for the most part. I’d have to say that the only drawback is the length, it keeps hitting my knee as I pedal. It might work better with a newer pack but as it is, it’s just too long.
This is the reason topurchase the Crux bladder. Keeps water unfrozen to around 10 degrees and the nipple guard keeps it clean
