Using primarily for road/TT bike.Pros: lightweight, quality build (as it is common for Camelbak products), it surprisingly stays in place without a waist strap (I expected this to be an issue). Although originally concerned about the minimal pocket space, I am able to carry all necessary tools, spares, etc., Overall, it exceeded expectations, for the most part.Potential improvements: it does not insulate as well as other Camelbaks (I guess at the cost of making it lighter weight; in South FL, I would have preferred better insulation (I currently have to add more ice to keep those last sips still cold)).Although it surprisingly stays in place better than expected (particularly on TT position), I would like to have the waist straps added for improved position ... MoreUsing primarily for road/TT bike.Pros: lightweight, quality build (as it is common for Camelbak products), it surprisingly stays in place without a waist strap (I expected this to be an issue). I know! most riders stick with bottles, but when you go long and hard in South FL heat, that ice-cold water in my Camelbak makes all of the difference!Gear pocket could be improved, but is not as bad as I thought it would be. There are two (the main at the bottom, and one on the upper cover)It is truly not 5 stars given the suggested improvements I mentioned, but gave it 5 as it exceeded expectations based on what I had learned from pics, marketing, and other reviews.I hope this helps!!

I bought this hydration pak because it is fairly small. I needed it to fit into a tight spot in a rowing shell. Given that it is fairly small, it does not have much extra room for storage. I normally fill the water bag about a quarter full. I can store a small handheld VHF radio and a set of keys in a dry bag and that is about it. If you fill it completely with water, there will be very little room left for storage. This bag is best suited for uses where space is constrained. If you are walking, hiking or something else where space is not an issue, you might wish to choose another product with more storage capacity.I like the toggle switch for the water. There is a built-in handle like that on a hairbrush that is attached to the collar around the water filling opening. The water fill lid is threaded and spins on. You have to be careful to make sure the lid is done up tight.Tip: If you don't fill the bag completely with water, lay the bag on a flat surface before closing the lid. Let the bag sag onto the surface so that all the air is out of the water bag and the water is almost spilling out. Then close the lid. If you don't do this, the bag will be bigger than necessary due to trapped air which takes away from storage space.

This is a lightweight hydration pack, best utilized for quick light rides or walks, due to the small capacity. The storage pocket is large enough for a phone, wallet, keys, and snack bar. I utilized mine mostly on short trail rides after work and it got the job done for holding essentials. The reservoir is disappointing because the twist off design makes it difficult to fill and seal without spilling, but even more difficult to tell if it's truly sealed. Can you tell I prefer the reservoirs with top-filling openings and clips? The other feature I found to be less than ideal were the shoulder straps. The adjustable strap tails seem unnecessarily long and the internal wiring frequently rotates and creates twisted straps, which is annoying and impacts comfort. At ... MoreThis is a lightweight hydration pack, best utilized for quick light rides or walks, due to the small capacity. The storage pocket is large enough for a phone, wallet, keys, and snack bar. In terms of quality of stitching, fabric, zippers, this is definitely a step up from the no-name hydration pack I was using before. But, like others have said, it does NOT hold 70oz of water. I bought it specifically because it could hold more water than my other pack but it doesn’t. I measured as I filled it up and the absolute most I could cram in there was 58oz. It may not sound like much of a difference, but it matters when you’re riding or running in the desert heat. Plus, that’s the capacity that is prominently advertised, so it should be the capacity you actually get. I see the description claims this pack’s total capacity is 5 liters which is also impossible. There are only two small zipper pockets so there’s no way it has a volume greater than 3 liters ... MoreIn terms of quality of stitching, fabric, zippers, this is definitely a step up from the no-name hydration pack I was using before. It’s a great little hydration pack, but it is NOT what is advertised here.
Used the Hydrobak several times on day hikes of 3-5 miles. This is a great little back and you barely realize you have it on. I was a little worried about the mesh shoulder straps bunching up and digging into my shoulders, but they were fantastic. Overall a great pack, but the one drawback I have is the storage pocket is a little small. I like to put a first aid kit, keys, & wallet, but the storage pocket is a little tight to store all of that. I could see this also being a great hydrobak for running or biking as it is small enough and you barely realize it is there. Overall, I highly recommend the pack and think it is awesome for day hikes.
I received this hydration pack in May but didn't have a chance to fully test it out until last week. I decided to wait until I could really put it through its paces for a thorough review instead of just a cursory look.To me, this pack is perfect for half-day adventures. If you're going on a full-day (or multi-day) epic, you're going to need more storage and more water. But for shorter trips, this has been great. With the bladder full, I managed to fit in bug spray, sunblock, a bike pump, my keys, and my id/credit card/cash clip. I appreciated the little details on the pack. The hanging loop for the bladder kept it from bunching up in the bottom of the bag. I appreciated the little details on the pack. The hanging loop for the bladder kept it from bunching up in the bottom of the bag. The padding on the straps and back did a good job of keeping me less sweaty (as much as could be expected on a 95F day!). I liked having 2 separate compartments, and the clip for keys is nice for making sure they don't accidentally fall out when you're on a chairlift. The locking lever on the bite valve is great for making sure the pack doesn't leak when you toss it in the car or into a bigger backpack, and the disconnect for cleaning the tube will come in handy later on.I wore this pack while biking on a rail-trail, hiking around the Red River Gorge area in KY, and doing the Via Ferrata climb in that same area. I never felt encumbered by the straps and the pack sat nicely in place as I scrambled around. I did drink ALL of the water on one of the days (again, it was 95F) so if you think you need more volume, consider the larger size.My only complaint was that I could not see a way to move the clip for the tube from the right side over to the left side, but that isn't really a big deal - you just get used to having it on the right. To sum up - CamelBak paid good attention to details and made great design decisions to come up with a nearly-perfect pack for shorter adventures.
Great little hydration pack. A bit awkward to fill, but not too bad. The bladder is supposed to be a 1.5 litre bladder, but if it's filled to full it leaks like a sieve around the bladder cap. Filled to a bit over 1 litre however, it works great and doesn't leak too much at all. Comfortable to wear and I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't chafe anywhere over a 10 mile run on a hot humid day. Best option I've found for carrying water on long runs. I'd buy it again.
This pack is perfect for short day hikes. Holds just enough stuff. This is my first Camelbak. I like the size but not a huge fan of the hydration bladder. It seemed to leak but after inspection, it was just the outside of the bladder that was wet which wet the entire bag! Really wish other companies made smaller packs like this. But this one fits my purpose.
I used this bag for low mileage hikes, no more than 3 miles. It's the perfect size but the bladder leaks. When I filled the bladder, I would wipe it down before putting it in the bag. It would leak so bad that my back would be wet! Tried 3 different hikes! Getting the filled bladder inside of the bag can be tedious. Not impressed with Camelbak.
My girl has a $100 one that's more complex and I wanted one for a good price. Bought this one for Spartan, Tough Mudder etc. 50 bucks, held 2 20oz Gatorades with lots of room to dilute with water to my liking. Put in cold and stayed cold even after 3hrs and having plenty left even after half marathon. Rinsed with hot water before use and no plastic taste. Bite valve gives out good amount and is durable yet soft enough to not have to really bite down and it seals well. Got some reflective points for night time which is nice. Reservoir locks tight in place via velcro and top flap, really solid. Only has one chest strap but didn't move around at all like I thought it might while sprinting. Couple zippered pockets which kept mud and sand out entirely, not totally ... MoreMy girl has a $100 one that's more complex and I wanted one for a good price. Couple zippered pockets which kept mud and sand out entirely, not totally waterproof compartments, which I haven't seen on any of these, but a medium waterproof pouch fit in the lower section holding power snacks and gels. Top compartment, which is bigger, has hook for attaching keys etc which is cool. Straps are comfortable and extra strap length has velcro securing them in place or if needed can hold bike stuff. I was master bike builder and this would hold everything you'd need for riding. Held up well and rinsed out easy after being covered in mud. Nice lil feature is a small drain hole at the bottom of outside pack that let's any collecting fluid or muddy water drain out right away. Tubing secures to right strap and kept out of the way with going through obstacles and barbed wire etc. Only issue I had, which it wasn't designed for was zipper loops getting hung on a cargo safety netting one time. Just took it off and put it on backwards for a second obstacle with safety netting. If you're a detailed oriented person and want a good camelbak this one is great.
