I've had a few Camelbak hydration packs over the years going back to the first ones that Camelbak produced. They've really done a nice job with the Mule to make it low profile while still holding 3 liters of water, a shock pump, tire pump, tools and snacks in a compact design. I like the way it sits higher on my back which helps keep it in place on those technical trails. No worries about having enough water on my 100+ degree rides in the Sonoran desert with this hydration pack!

I bought this two months ago and it’s been brilliant. So comfortable to wear you don’t notice it. Plenty of space and pockets to hold all things required for a full day ride. The camel hydration 3l is more than enough to keep you hydrated.
I had been looking for a replacement bag for some time. Came across the mule and it had all the features I had been looking for. 3 liter bag and plenty of storage. Camelback is by far the best hydration I have owned.
Fantastic backpack, I brought it for bike riding. Not too heavy or big enough to store my food, basic equipment etc
If you want a do it all bag for mountainbiking don't get the larger Mule. They are too big and restricting. The bladder opening is way too big along with the rest of the bag, you will struggle to put your neck back and the rest of the bags design just doesn't seem to fit right for cycling, the strap across the chest is also too short if you've spent a bit of time in the gym.
This hydration pack is legit. I use it for road cycling using a MTB bike. It has a 3 liter hydration container, which when you think about it you're drinking an entire bottle and a half of a 2 liter soda plastic bottle. That's a lot of water. It does add some weight to the pack but you're definitely gonna be hydrated. I also am able to fill the bag with an iphone 8 plus where you typically would store your stunner shades. Also a screwdriver and a heavy knife, a coiled up bike lock and a light shirt. It definitely has plenty of pockets for small or flat items. a bulky hoodie or jacket will be a struggle to fit. I highly recommend this camelback pack and have no complaints with it so far. I'm sure you could use it for hiking as well.
Having owned a Camelback for a number of years I needed to upgrade it with a bit more storage space in it. The Mule is a brilliantly thought out example with plenty of storage and the construction of it lives up the the usual Camelbak standards.
I've been using a mini mule for years and now I want to go larger. What happened to the MOLLE attachment system? I like my most used gear handy and easy to access. I'm also suspicious of the interior. Is it one large cavern, or is there organizational pockets in the largest compartment like the mini mule has?
