We purchased this for a trip to Montana, and any future hiking. He loved it. The fit and comfort made long hikes a breeze, and the included bladder really added to the value. There was plenty of room for extra gear and food for our day hikes. It also doubled well as a carry on for the essentials needed when flying. Overall, a great hydration pack.

I've used this pack on a number of day hikes and would highly recommend it. The pack itself is light and comfortable to wear - it is well balanced and fits securely. The main compartment is large enough for a couple extra layers and some snacks for one or two people, while the small accessory pouch is great for your keys, phone, and wallet and includes dividers to keep things separated. The outer "sling" pouch works well for storing anything you may need to grab quickly. This pack also has two side pouches that can fit an exterior water bottle nicely; this can be useful for carrying extra water for your dog or another hiking companion.The hydration portion of the pack is also well designed and easy to use. Overall not a bad day pack. Functions like you would expect from CamelBak, quality bladder system and well made materials. The breathability where the pack meets your back is nice and keeps you cool on the longer day hikes. Also, enjoy the more subdued color tones in the day and age when everything seems to be loud. Only complaint on the pack is the zipper system. Seems to stuck between the typical backpack style and a top down stuff version. While not a huge issue, do have trouble getting items in and out of larger pocket depending on items being packed for the day.

I had just tightened the waist belt to keep the pack against my back. The lower down bladder allowed me to run without much back fatigue and with much less bouncing around of water than other packs. Had to tuck the bladder hose biter into one of the loops on the shoulder strap to keep it from flopping in my face but it stayed there and didn’t need adjustment. I also never had to adjust the valve and was able to keep it always open without leaking water.Climbing PackA little too tight for packing climbing shoes on outside because it is not stretchy. However, I have large feet/shoes.
Excellent pack! Took it on a 4-hour, 8-mile hike its first time out and it did not disappoint. Two liters wasn't enough water given the heat that day, but most of the time, it should be plenty. Smart design, pockets and straps where you'd expect them to be. One of the best packs I've ever owned.

Most of these hikes the weather was cool, I carried my gloves, hat a lighter jacket, some snacks and of course a filled hydration pack with water. The pack felt great on my back, it fits well and was stable as I hiked up and down and around.The pack is very light empty, which from my point-of-view is very important. Start out with a durable lightweight pack and then add the water and supplies you don't want unnecessary weight before you head out.I had some light rain on one of the hikes, the contents stayed dry. This is my third camelbak rimrunner pack. This one is better fit to my height than the previous model. Im a minimalist and use this as my only bag for everything from vacations, day hikes, beach days, lake days, basically anything except multi day backpacking trips.

The actual hydration pack is well designed, and features a genuinely useful handle for filling. I wish other hydration packs had this feature. However, for most of my use, I used the pack without a hydration bladder, as that's just the setup I prefer. This pack works great for those uses too, and the side sleeves are perfect for all sizes of water bottles, and provide for quick access. The bottle holders are both secure and easy to access, and I appreciate their design and mesh material. The front of the pack also has a double layer of this mesh material, which works well holding extra gear I want to access quickly, or holding dirty clothes or things I'm trying to dry. One downside on the outside of the pack is that the little loops at the bottom are just too small to effectively work with ice axes, which was an application I was quite excited for when I originally got the pack, but I think I will have to modify the pack a bit for this to work. Although it may not be great for alpine climbing out the box, I like how adaptable this pack is, and the webbing on the back allow for a lot of different setups and modifications, and I appreciate CamelBak providing these options. I plan to modify mine to better carry a helmet and ice tools. The side straps on the pack carry a rope decently well, and although that isn't exactly what the pack is designed for, it can totally work for climbing applications. Finally, there's the two brain pockets. These are great for stowing small items, and where especially useful when I used this pack to take a Wilderness First Responder course, and holding my field manuals and SOAP notes in a pocket that was properly sized and rapidly accessible was critical. This pack worked very well there. While the zippers to the main compartment may very well be a weak point in the future, I have so far noticed no issues, and the zippers are smooth, don't catch, and are of high quality. Time will tell as to how well they hold up. Finally, the main compartment is just an empty area, which I like, as it gives me a lot of versatility with how I use the pack. It is a large enough size that you can use it for several day trips if you pack very light, or it can hold plenty for any day adventures. I've used this pack for hiking, wilderness first aid, whitewater kayaking, cragging, and day trips around town, and it has worked well in all applications. The straps are comfortable and fit well, and the waistbelt pockets are useful for keys or small odds and ends. The one downside is the phone pocket on the straps, as it is too small to fit my phone, and even when you can get a phone into the pocket, it is not the most comfortable of a carry. I would've liked maybe a bigger pocket, or just replacing that pocket with a water bottle holder in the front, but you can also use the pocket for smaller items, and in that regard it is useful. I plan to take this pack with me on a half year trip to Peru, given how versatile it has proven and how useful it is in a variety of applications.

But for most single adults or couples it's probably overkill if you're usually hiking only a few miles. I'm a large guy too (6'2") and found the hip supports did not do much for comfort, nor offer much space in their pockets (only big enough for very small tube of sunscreen or chapstick, not for phone or sunglasses).
