After a lot of back & forth I finally laid out the cash for my first pellet grill. For the past 4 years I have bragged about, praised & preached that I loved my "T". One of the best gifts I have ever given myself ! I realize now, I was hiding a secret I was too em-bare-assed to admit. I spent more money than I ever had on something that I really didn't like from day one. There were many reasons but, I was just too proud to admit it…my wife hated the lack of smoke, I hated tearing the whole thing down to empty the ash pot, having to constantly check the temp with a real thermometer against the controller being 20-30 degrees off, and just not having a good time. Calling that great customer service department and having to replace 3 controllers in 4 years was the last ... MoreAfter a lot of back & forth I finally laid out the cash for my first pellet grill. I gave up & finally sought help to end this nagging guilt I was carrying by lying to myself & my friends. I ran across Camp Chef at an outdoors tradeshow. The factory rep explained many things to me in great detail during our counselling session. Don’t blame yourself, many have gone down the same path, he said. The past is past, rip off the band aid & move on. I was convinced. My Woodwind Pro 24 arrived, about an hour & 1/2 and beers later it was complete. I burned off the factory oils, then cured it by grilling some old freezer burned pork chops & ground deer meat. After that , my first real cook of a big ole brisket was amazing ! I showed my wife all the steps to operate it- She demands smoke when we cook and the smoke drawer is perfect ! We add hickory chips & damp onion skins and OMG it smells DEE-Vine ! Prompts to my phone, easy cleaning, perfect temps and really good smoke. We have had fish, beef & pork ribs, deer backstrap, loin, brisket, brats &hots, burgers and on and on...we have not experienced ONE bad meal!My wife like our Woodwind pro so much she has pretty much banned me from cooking and is now the pit master. I know it is absolutely time for me to leave work and get my rear end home when my app notifies me that my Camp Chef has reached its desired temp setting! Thanks Camp Chef- I have my life back

Let me introduce you to the Woodwind Pro.An electric wood pellet smoker? Isn’t that cheating?Only if you hate consistent cooking temperatures, perfect blending of smoke and flavor and the ability to have fun at cookouts without being anchored to a 183-pound piece of statement jewelry. The Woodwind Pro is a game changer. It’s ability to cook at low heat for long hours coupled with their smoke box and the onboard temperature gauge along and 4, FOUR!!! meat probes ensure whatever is smoking is going to cook and taste perfect.I hear you what you’re saying, “Hey guy, What’s the big deal? That sounds like common sense, and good engineering by professionals.”No, it’s SORCERY!I see your eyebrow raise but hear me out. Even with all that hardware and solid customer support at the end of the day you’re still the one doing the cooking. I’m not a master chef. I can barely put two pieces bread on either side of peanut butter, but with this thing the whole block now knows when it’s the weekend and exactly where to come and eat.My Review:I spent several months reading about different smokers and grills and the options were making my head spin. I debated about type, size and what I really needed in a grill/smoker. Camp Chef was highly recommended on the web, but what does that really mean? After talking with some of their customers in person I made the plunge.I have a family of 5 and we like to host gatherings, so I knew the 36 pro was going to be size I needed. I also wanted the versatility of gas grill, so the side plate was a no brainer. The fact that it’s interchangeable was also a huge plus.Ordering direct from Camp Chef was a breeze. The grill arrived 4 days later. On day one my son and I assembled the grill. It took about 2 hours from unboxing to complete, but it was never difficult. The parts are all bagged and numbered. The manual was short and concise. There is also great phone app for assembly that shows you parts from all different angles if you’re still confused. This really is like the Ikea of grill assembly, and I mean that in the most positive of ways.Startup is a breeze and my first weekend with the grill (and legitimately smoking anything) and I smoked a pork shoulder and butt, and it was some of the best BBQ I have ever had. The next week we smoked burgers this past weekend we made three different racks of ribs, brats, and smoked mac and cheese. Everything has come out better than I could imagine. It’s been about a month since my purchase, and I’ve cooked with this smoker a lot experimenting with pellets and wood types for the smoke box. I’m 2 weeks from smoking a brisket, which I’ve never done, but I have no fear that it will turn out to be amazing.Cleanup with the Woodwind Pro has been simple. Ash removal is painless, I usually wipe down the internal temp gauge and the barrel after two or three cooks and the grill plates are easily removeable to clean. You will need something to collect ash that builds up in the grill a shotput vacuum or even just a handheld brush and dustpan will work, but the vacuum will be quicker and get to spots that might be difficult to reach with just your hands.ConsThe smoker isn’t cheap. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth every cent. The quality is there but dropping $1100-$1600 on a smoker is not in everyone’s budget. I wish the phone app was a little more than just a timer and thermometer and that you could more with it. Also, I wish the top grill plates were designed differently.Final ThoughtsIf you’re ready to make the plunge into an elevated bbq experience and you don’t mind spending the money. The Woodwind Pro series will take you all the way and you’ll become a barbeque god among your neighbors.

The lid doesn't come attached and there's no instructions for putting it on. Once you figure it out, getting those screws in is also near impossible going thru 3 layers and one screw fell into the auger. Good thing I have neodymium magnets. In fact I had to use 4 32lb neodymium magnets to hold the tray in place while I tried to thread the screws threw the screen, the hopper, and the door hinge.I also had to use a flexible grabber claw to hold the back nuts for the top shelf rails.I had to install, uninstall, and reinstall the hopper 3 times because of step 9.4, then because I trapped the probe wires between the hopper and the wall. You need a good long screwdriver because your electric isn't going to reach in those tight places.Haven't used it yet. It was 90° out there today and this took hours. I'll smoke a brisket this weekend and let you know if the pain was worth it.

Engineering issues

Hi, it's me again. Now I've smoked a 12lb brisket, two 5 lb chuck roasts and 2 8 lb prok butts. They all cam out super awesome and I love the wifi controller and supplied probes so I can keep tabs on my phone while the meat is smoking overnight or all day.FIVE STARS on quality of product. Now for a couple bummers in engineering design.1. The dump chute for the pellet hopper should be on the outside of the hopper, not next to the body. It's hard to fit a container up next to the grill and catch all the pellets when exchanging them out.2. The screen on the hopper should be hinged and lift up so you can easily help the pellets out to the chute.3, The probe for the controller is hidden behind the top grill railing and hard to clean, but you must clean or it ... MoreHi, it's me again. (same flaw for installing the damned thing, but I've already talked about that)4. The grease tray and chute should be angles so the grease flows into the bucket. Also why the stupid bucket just because that's standard and "expected"? It hangs there clumsily and stupidly. But the point is grease doesn't flow to the chute unless it has a slight incline so cook on a hill apparently.5. It's hard to clean the bottom, and grease does find it's way down there, as well as ash.6. There should be a way to join the two sections of upper grate together, like with a latch or something. It's hard to pull out your 12 lb brisket or 8 lb pork butts with it being 2 separate grates. If they make these changes in future versions it will be a 5*the product is 5* as it is, but the engineering needs some thought.

Everything you would want from a pellet smoker
16 May 2023

I usually smoke most of my meats on a stick burner, but this year I had a kid and I needed to find a way to still get to enjoy smoked meat, but without the responsibility of keeping a wood fire burning consistently for 12-18 hours. The woodwind pro series has to be the closest to an offset type experience, but getting to enjoy staying inside and managing everything from your phone. This pellet smoker produces bark and smoke flavor that I have never experienced when trying my friend's smoked meats and for the amount of ease it is to use, I think the flavor is worth it.If I could have a complaint, I would say, for the price and comparing with Traeger's high end smoker and they have a nice feature that lets the user know when pellets are low. However, if you are on top of adding in wood chunks throughout the whole smoke, you will always have your eyes to just see the pellet level, so this ended up not mattering at all to me and I am glad that small detail didn't hold me back.Only real issues I have noticed with this product is;1. Pellets get stuck in hopper and need a good shake to get them to fall to the auger when viewing the level, it looks full, but opening the top and you see no pellets going through the auger is not fun.2. With the sidekick, the grease catcher is almost rubbing the bottom of the sidekick and isn't the easiest access, but it does keep my dogs from getting to it as well, so this can arguably be a feature instead of an issue.overall it is a great product that probably gives you the closest experience to what actual wood burning bark/flavor can give you, but allows you to have your day back to do other things and have a great meal at the end of the day.

First pellet grill / smoker owner - very happy
30 May 2023

Purchased the Woodwind Pro 24 after much thought, research, and comparisons. First I had to decide between 24" and 36". I decided 36" would be too big for my space, and I'm happy with that decision. I'm new to smoking, and rarely am making large quantities of food.Camp Chef uses FedEx for delivery - the delivery left a bit to be desired - it came in two boxes, and one box was too heavy for one person to lift, and I don't know if the driver had a dolly or not, but he did not use one, and instead "rolled" the heavy box from the street to my porch. I had it on video in case there was any damage to the grill. I had it on video in case there was any damage to the grill. Luckily, despite the boxes looking terrible on the outside, the packaging was good enough inside that I could find no damage.Assembly was fairly straightforward, though ran into a few problems, there is a bag of parts labeled 9.4, but no instructions related to those parts. It wasn't until later in the process that I realized that it was a bracket for securing the hopper/burn cup assembly to the grill enclosure. And the lever/arm for the smoke box was a little confusing to put on. In my case, the confusion was because the set screw was already inserted, and inserted too far into the lever arm. I didn't realize this at first, and was trying to screw the lever on to the post, and tighten, and it just wouldn't work. At this point it was getting dark and I gave up till next day. in light of day I realized the set screw was already in there. I had to apply great force to loosen and unscrew the set screw enough to allow the lever to attach properly--the set screw is damaged, but the lever is working, so I'm not too concerned. The only other issue I had was the machine was extremely loud. I was concerned because with the noise it was making, I definitely would upset the neighbors if I smoked overnight. Feeling around the pellet hopper, I realized the noise was coming from a loose screen over the fan - air intake underneath the hopper. Once I tightened those screws, the machine was MUCH quieter.I've grilled twice now with it, and have been very happy so far. The smoke box is a great addition allowing you to get more smoke, closer to offset smoker, but still the convenience that brought us to a pellet grill.I'm very happy with the product, and if not for the few very minor hiccups with assembly, I'd say Camp Chef has an amazing product.Oh, one other thing. Connecting the device to wifi--I had issues, but I was initially trying to go thru the setup withOUT creating an account. Once I created an account, setting up the device on wifi worked perfectly. Again, just a minor thing. I hope my experience helps others out there. Don't let any of this deter you--I'm super happy and can't wait to do more grilling.

Love my Woodwind Pro!
17 May 2023

I'm about a month in after buying the Woodwind Pro. I had upgraded from a Camp Chef STX and had a sear box as well. The woodwind pro was a huge upgrade and the versatility added with the sidekick makes this it absolutely amazing. I also added the flattop and I now have a full outdoor kitchen perfect for my family. What I love: 1)The addition of the Smokebox to the woodwind pro has addressed some of the negative association with pellets of a lack of smoke flavor. 2) The wifi controller/app/temp probes have rendered my previous need for another thermometer/app The app is easy to use, the smoke control option has been great and everything has been easy to use and accurate. I haven't used the cold smoke (fan only) function, but that's on the list to try 3) Something ... MoreI'm about a month in after buying the Woodwind Pro. I haven't used the cold smoke (fan only) function, but that's on the list to try 3) Something small that my STX didn't have: the pellet cleanout. I can't tell you what a pain it was to manually scoop out the pellets from the hopper in my old STX to exchange pellets based on what type of wood I wanted to use for my cooks. 4) Build quality. This thing is a beast. The stainless steel build plus the gasket around the lid is a huge upgrade. Solid! 5) The sidekick is a big versatile upgrade over my sear box. I got both the sidekick sear and the flattop. I've basically transformed my small backyard into a kitchen. I can cook anything I want and enjoy the outdoors whereas before I'd have to run back and forth into my kitchen if we wanted to eat outside. 6) Ash cleanout. This was a function on my old STX, but they've made it better with a slight redesign and it's made it a bit easier to use and less prone to getting stuck when doing an ash dump. 7) The ventiliation redesign is great and does force the smoke through the chamber. It also makes putting the grill cover on a bit easier than the old chimney models!Overall, I couldn't be more pleased and love the upgrades.

Monumental disappointment
6 May 2023

In hindsight I would have done better to buy a cheap unit for half the price and just replace it every few years. I ordered it from Lowes, it direct ships from the manufacturer. It was received with the boxes torn to shreds so I refused it and another was shipped. On assembly, the allen screw used to hold the handle that opens/closes the baffle on the firebox stripped so I requested a replacement. The replacement was the wrong screw so they re-sent getting it correct the 2nd time. The design for this handle and how it attaches is laughable. There were no instructions for assembling the lid of the hopper so I muddled my way through it although it wasn't exactly intuitive. Did an ample job of smoking but after 4 smokes I was not able to achieve a temperature over 370 ... MoreIn hindsight I would have done better to buy a cheap unit for half the price and just replace it every few years. Did an ample job of smoking but after 4 smokes I was not able to achieve a temperature over 370 degrees. I called Camp Chef and they sent over a new fire box and a new thermometer. You are expected to use the screws that were original to the unit and the screw which holds the fire rod in place on the fire box did not fit the hole on the new firebox (which was a slight different design anyway). Since I was 2 for 2 at not receiving the correct parts I did not attempt to change the thermometer. You would think at the $1200 level you would have bought your way out of nuisance problems but that is not the case with this unit. Customer service is closed on the weekends which makes sense right? After all who smokes on the weekend? 3 months have expired so there is no refund for me I'm just stuck. I will try one more smoke and if it does not work properly I will cut my losses and bring this to the dump which pays I believe $0.35 # for scrap iron then do what I should have done from the beginning and buy a cheap Pit Boss then just throw it away once it rusts out. At this point I would not buy a Camp Chef grill brush.

Pellet Grilling, Smoke Box and Searing!?
7 February 2023

Pellet Grilling, Smoke Box and Searing, you can't go wrong here.WW PRO 24 is a solid pellet grill / smoker. Well constructed with some neat features, the smoke box being the one that we probably all purchased this for. The smoke box feature is great for adding lump wood, charcoal ect, it really does provide great smoke and flavor to your meats, cheeses ect. The housing for the box is a little janky. If not removed slowly and inserted back at just the right angle it can throw off the internal guts which renders it unusable with the handle. You can still pull the smoke box out and ignite your fuel with a torch which I've done a few times before really taking care when pulling it out and inserting it back in.Pellet Grill alone does a great job. You can still pull the smoke box out and ignite your fuel with a torch which I've done a few times before really taking care when pulling it out and inserting it back in.Pellet Grill alone does a great job. Comes to temperature quickly, and maintains a consistent set temperature. The temperature settings remain more consistent when the smoke setting is lower. Speaking of smoke setting; it's a great feature, I don't find much difference between say 2 and 5; so I am generally using 1 or 8, either I want extra smoke or I don't.Clean up is very simple thanks to the integrated ash dump, which saves me from having to take things apart after long cooks to vaccum out the firebox. I still do regular cleaning, but this a nice feature to have.SideKick Sear Box, very nice! Part of the reason I purchased this grill was for the optional addition of the sidekick platform. Finally getting the option to really sear my meats after a cook. The depth of flavor is exactly what I was looking for. Some more great features that make sense are the wheels, yeah you have 4 now, and they lock. The pellet hopper dump is nice if you're a big fan of matching different wood flavors with meat; I'm not and tend to use a blend, but it's there if you need it and works!CONS:Yeah, there are some, which is why it's 4 and not 5 Star. Mentioned above the smoke box. If you're not perfectly aligned, it won't work, the butterfly valve will not open correctly and can lift the internal parts out of alignment. If you're mid cook, you can forget about fixing this to how it's supposed to work; you'll need to ignite manually.Assembly..I've read these are some of the easier ones, but some of screw locations are near impossible; mainly adding in the rails for the upper grill support. I would guess that half of users wont be able to get these in, and I guarantee the other half that did are saying, that's never coming apart. A couple other parts in the assembly were not great. Sliding the firebox, hopper unit in wasn't difficult, but just hard to align correctly.Probes - The probes temperatures jump all over the place. It will read 48 to start then jump up to 67, then down to 13, which continues throughout the cook, so really not useable. I've contacted CS and they just said to dip the probes in ice water, which didn't work. I've resorted to using my inkbird bbq probes over the ones sent with the CC WW PRO 24.Noise - It's fairly loud; one of the louder pellet grills I've owned. Not an issue for some, but it's pretty noticeable if you're hanging out around it.Goodies - For the price it really should come with a cover...

The Revolution is here
21 May 2023

I've owned this product since the day after it was released for sale to the public. When I saw this product, I thought to myself, if this grill works as advertised, this is the iPhone of barbecue grills!I want to start by saying I would consider myself an above average griller with about 5 years of experience with using a pellet grill at least 1-2 a week. I've cooked most common foods on my Camp Chef Woodwind Pro to include: brisket, pork butt, ribs, steak, beef ribs, pork belly, fish, lobster, lamb, chicken, turkey, macaroni and cheese, pies, pizza, cookies, as well as other foods. I have cooked ten racks of ribs at once, four pork butts and a couple briskets. So I have quite some experience with this grill so I felt now was the proper time for a review. I will list what I like and what I do not like about the grill.First, the revolution of pellet grills is here! The taste of the food that comes off the Woodwind grill is far superior than any other standard pellet grill that is not a fair comparison. I don't have tons of experience with offset smokers, however, the meat that I have tasted from an offset smoker is more comparable in taste than other pellet grills. The smoke box feature delivers the mild wood flavor that is lacking from a pellet smoker. Like any other grill, it does take some practice to learn how to use effectively. Once you know how long it takes to ignite the wood chunks (I've learned wood chips burn extremely fast so it's largely a waste of time), when to put more wood, and how big of chunks to use, the smoke box will become your best friend when it comes to flavor. The welds on the handle where the smoke box connect were not very strong and bent on me while I was removing the smoke box to add more wood during a cook. It's been noted in other videos that the handle on the door of the smoke box should be bigger so it doesn't burn your fingers so I have managed to stay away from that. The smoke box does have an inverted v-shape on the bottom so it does get slightly tricky when picking wood chunks to put in there. The valve does get stuck or hard to get open if the cover and smoke box aren't quite lined up which has been happening to me more frequently the more I use it. I know I'm mentioning some minor details because they matter, at least to me. All in all, the smoke box feature is the shhhhhhhh!!!!The other nice features of the grill worth mentioning is the Wifi connectivity, ability to control the smoke level, four temperature probes that can be viewed from your cell phone, as well as others that are common with other brand pellet grills. Now the reason why I gave it four stars instead of five is the quality of the grill could be better:The spot welds inside the grill were excellent upon arrival but the welds connecting the top portion to the main grill were already broken. As well as the pan on the bottom connected to the legs were missing rivets for the bolts. In all honesty, I did not contact customer service because I needed to cook for a birthday party the next day and I felt it was very minor that would not affect the function of the grill. The gasket around the lid area gets caught when I shut the lid causing a small gap and has started to tear. The worst part is the liquid from the meat drips to the bottom near the fire-pit, somehow makes it's way out of the grill, and drips on the ground under the side that holds the pellets. Very little goes into the drip pan on the other side of the grill which can be an annoyance. I noticed some of the screws around the grill get loose with time and some are not able to be tighten down due to carbon deposits where you put the screwdriver. So about 8 months of hard use and I don't think it will withstand the test of time, just my opinion.I know I described more cons than pros about the grill but I think it's more important that others know so they can make a great decision. I would buy this grill again even with all these things in mind because it easy to use, very user friendly, and that smoke box just can't be beat!!!!
